I've got a bin full of broken 1911 parts.  You won't see me post them in the Glock forum.

HAHA!

I got it - and thought it was funny, but didn't want to be accused of drifting the thread into a Glock hating/poking fun at kind of thing.

My very first 1911 and my first .45!!!  Kimber TLE/RLII with reliability package, trigger job and night sights.  Grips are probably going to be replaced with VZ's or Gunners and the full length guide rod will be replaced with a GI rod.

Pro Carry II
It's the most accurate pistol that I've owned.

Diamondback

A 45 may not expand but it will never be smaller than .45.

Hi rifle-cop624,

I used a dremel tool with very small cutter bits and small router bit. Also used an exacto knife to trace the pattern into the wood grips. Then used the cutters and router bit to remove enough material to sink the insignia below the curve of the wood.

The insignia are 14 k gold plated, so should stay bright for a long time. I was originally going to use the round back plate but they were too large to fit the grips.  The flags were screwed on from behind the backing plate so unscrewed them and used them alone.

Bent the insignia just enough to keep the sharp edges from sticking up and catching my hands.  I used a small amount of Shoe Goop (kind of like rubber cement) to glue the insignia to the grip. Took about 2 1/2 hours per grip. Not perfect but turned out better than I thought they would. Figured if I screwed up the works I was only out the price of the grips!!

Got the insignia from www.flyingtigerssurplus.com.

They look great, Diamondback.  I'm not talented enough to attempt it.  I've always had good luck with Gungrips.net, though.
