I'm now running into the challenge of finding a location that won't charge me $160 to do 8 cards in Will county (accurate biometrics). Local pd does them for $5 ea but the person that does them is hard to catch at the office. Any leads would be well appreciated.

I believe it would be which ever has jurisdiction where you reside.  So if you call the police and a deputy shows up go to the sheriff. If its a boy in blue go to the police chief.

Well, sending out my C&R app tomorrow and I'm hoping Sheriff Bustos will sign off when the time comes.

Well shit, I wish I would have read up on this before spending $100 on a trust.

The old McHenry County Sheriff wouldn't sign. I'm hoping the new one will once he takes office.

How do you guys go about asking, just call and set up a meeting, email or other?

I emailed my (then) town's Chief, she replied right back and said she would but I was literally 1 street out of her jurisdiction. Sheriff would never contact me back. I now live in another county, so I need to try and get a hold of him.

I called (Will Co) and asked to set up a meeting with the Sheriff, and mentioned that I intended to ask him to sign off on my forms.  They seemed to take this in stride more than I expected, and (at one point) admitted that I wasn't the first person to ask this, and that he had signed others in the past.  The meeting was easy, pleasant, and I left with my signed forms.

If Im going to go the trust route, do I have to have the trust set up before I get the C&R?

ie: Does the C&R holder have to be the trust name?

You can't go the trust route in Illinois.  You have to get your forms signed by the highest ranking LEO where you live.  Trusts are no longer being accepted.

Another question about lengths now that Ive read the thread (and got a C&R)

On the form 1 when they ask for OAL, is that stock extended?

And we are for sure not able to have an SBR with an OAL of less than 26"? Is that right?

I have a 9mm AR pistol with a 7" barrel I was planning to SBR. Even if it had an extended stock, it would only be 24" long

I think it comes down to the fact that a Trust is not an individual and a C&R can only be held by and individual. That was my take on it.

<----------Not a lawyer nor NFA expert

OAL length only comes into play when you want to put a VFG on a pistol, as once you do that to a gun with more than 26" OAL it becomes redefined as a "firearm". There are tons of folks with SBR's that have 6-10" barrels.

Well that's fucking retarded

I can tell you that a 10.3" barrel and a carbine buffer tube will get you 26.5" (plus a little more once the stock is on there and the buttplate adds some length). And that's to the end of the barrel not the muzzle device, so that would add some too.

Please excuse my ignorance, up until a couple of days ago I didn't think and SBR in Illinois was possible.  If I get my C&R and complete the SBR application and it's approved by ATF, am I the only one able to fire the weapon or can others shoot it as long as I am with them?  I believe I have viewed every post on this thread and I did not recall seeing it mentioned.

If an SBR in Il is possible that will be great because, I can shut my buddy up in Wi.  Of course he will still be the first one with and SBR and the first to get his CCW, but I'm catching up.

Than ks in advance for the info.

The stock counts in the length, measured from fully extended position. The muzzle device does NOT count, unless it's permanently attached.

Thanks again for the info.  I stopped into a local shop today and spoke to them about C&R.  The owner firmly believes the SBR ban will be over turned shortly after the suppressor ban fall.  He doesn't recommend going the C&R route because it opens you up to the AFT.  I don't necessarily agree with that, but I may give it a little time and see what happens with HB0433.  It will also give me time to save up for the new toys.

He's full of crap. C&R doesn't open you up to anything. Yes, the ATF can inspect your books, but unlike a regular FFL, they can't just roll in any time they please. They would schedule an appointment, which can be done at their office, so you don't even have to have an agent at your home. You don't lose 4A rights or any of the other Internet/gunshop BS you hear. I've had a C&R for almost 10 years and have never heard from anyone. When you renew, you mark down the number of guns you've acquired and disposed of, just the number, nothing specific and that's it.

Yes he was easy now. Back in Dec. I called his office about getting Form 1's signed, and his Executive Asst. took my info over the phone and said that they would look into it. She called me back the next day and said that "they" thought as a resident of Saint Charles that I should talk to the Saint Charles Police Chief about the Form 1's. I then mentioned this to Todd V. (on Illinoiscarry.com) and he stated that he was setting up a meeting with the new Sheriff. Todd then let me know that the Sheriff was now educated on SBR's and that I should call his office and set up an appointment with the Sheriff. I called his office and they told me to just drop off the filled out Form 1's and to include all my contact info and that they would mail me back the Forms. I immediately dropped off the forms and true to their word, I had the signed off Form 1's 5 days later. Easy peasy!

Sorry bud...the LEO signed forms is the only way to go at the moment.  As far as I know, the discrepancy between names on the C&R and names on the trust is the primary reason that trusts aren't allowed here.

What would the advantage be of acquiring it in your business name? Is your business in a different area where you can get LEO approval?  You still wouldn't be able to puf it in a trust, right?
