Quoted: That's mission dependent, but the JAKL is getting a white light and DONE. Save your Chinese Harris bipod clone, cheeze wedge, thumb rest, and Amazon "lazer beam" for a full size rifle. This is a PDW. It’s a shame you’re limiting the rifle so much and excluding such a large customer base. 300 blackout can reach out to 3-400 yards. Hardly pdw ranges. The blackout will actually be longer than a mk18 with the stock folded out. And it’s one of the most common rifles equipped with nv. No reason this format couldn’t replace most/all standard upper designs. But putting a light on a 5” rail is awkward enough let alone a Nv laser/light. There’s a reason why every other 300 blackout upper produced has a 7”+ rail with an 8” barrel. |
|
Quoted: It’s a shame you’re limiting the rifle so much... You've got it backwards, Chief- TOTALLY UNLIMITED. 400 is up, 400 is down... with a damn MBUS or whatever is on there. Donate the deer hunter optic to your Dad so he can use it in the tree stand. That old man needs it! Also, the JAKL barrel is almost 30% shorter than a Mk 18... so not sure what you're schmokin' on that datapoint. The collapsed stock vs the unfolded stock is not a relevant metric at all. JAKL is a PDW, and it's SHORT (you know what else). Pressing it into other roles which it is unsuited is a way to quickly become food for real-ninjas. Turning it into an el Camino so it will fit better into the ill fitting role is straight FOLLY. As far as "replacing standard uppers" - what is meant by that?? |

Quoted: JAKL is for going SHORT and QUIET. . ![]() No shit. It's an 8" barrel. That's short. The point is there's no reason the rail has to be so short that it's useless. Makes it problematic to mount my light where I want it along with a backup sight on a tiny-ass short rail. |
|
Attached File This is the gun the JAKL would basically be replacing. This is a 7" rail. For my setup, I need at least 6.5 of rail for the light and front sight. With a short rail, that's going to push my light switch back over the upper receiver where it's harder to get to. Basically that switch is already as far back as I want it. M-lok slots on the 45's would also probably solve this, but all the photos I've seen show that it doesn't have those. Saying SHORT AND QUIET DURRR HURRR over and over again doesn't change the fact that for some applications and accessories, the short rail is less than ideal. |

An 8.5” barrel is 18% shorter than a 10.3 barrel. And a collapsed mk18 is shorter than an extended jakl. Most people are gonna shoot their jakl with the brace extended. The collapsed brace is nice for transporting, but other than that not important. The jakl isn’t just a pdw, I’d love a 14.5 model. A collapsed stock, forward charging handle, this gun has more in common with a scar and an acr than a mp5. |

That gun looks like it’s also meant for going short and quiet. And it has a reasonable length rail? That seems like blasphemy. |

Quoted: This is the gun the JAKL would basically be replacing. Yeah, it would be wise to streamline that setup greatly before simply carrying that stuff over to the JAKL. Obviously there is no room for 3" tape switches with wires and curb feelers on a PDW. You could greatly enhance the functionality and ergos by going with an M300 type single cell with a tailcap switch also. A more compact suppressor might also be an improvement. |

You're just trolling at this point. It doesn't matter what you think the JAKL is for. It's literally for something different for each person. You have opinions. An opinion is by definition not factual, so you're literally not "right" in anything you're saying. It doesn't matter what you think about running a light with a tape switch. I like the setup. If I wanted to use a tailcap button, that's what I'd use. FWIW I have a Cloud Defensive LCS on order to manage the wire better. As far as a shorter suppressor, mine is a form 1, all titanium, that cost me about $500 to build. It's longer than some, shorter than others, but it works. I dare you to find an all titanium suppressor that's as light or effective for that money. Once again, it suits my purpose. Asking that PSA extend the handguard does not increase the overall size of the weapon. It can still be DURR HURR SHORT AND QUIET. There are obviously more than a few people who'd prefer that, and for those that don't, you lose nothing. |
|
Quoted: I'm just trying to help you guys out. "Durrr... what if it had an MP5 bolt group and ran on Glock Mags..." "I want a greeeeen one!" "What about 9mm Makarov? Where muh Makarov bros at?" "Will PSA please make a custom bug chaser lower for folks who spread the virus?" "Can I fit it in my backpack and tromp around the trailerpark... leeering at sunbathing women, chiding kids at play, and making folks uncomfortable?" DELISH MP5G you say... ![]() Attached File |
|
Quoted: MP5G you say... heh... Now you're going to spawn a brand new thread with all kinds of demands! Imagine that thing running on Glock mags with a 13.5" handguard running a white light, IR laser, cheeze wedge + target thumb rest, multifunction switches all wired up with teh SOCOMs, Holosun on the top and a 6x magnifier in a roll mount... plus some truck nuts up front just swangin'... MP5 could be a great DMR. It's literally for something different for each person. ;) |

I directly asked and got a response from PSA regarding the handguard length: "The receiver will extend approx. 4" of the barrel, and will have two sections of m-lok for attachments." So, looks like the production model will be the same as the prototypes we've seen. For those of us wanting to install "curb feelers" this is bad news. Guess I'm out. I think they are losing a large number of potential buyers with this setup, but it's their company. I imagine they'll still sell a ton. Maybe some other company will step up and service that market. If the BRN-180 had a non-reciprocating charging handle I'd go order one right now. |
|
Quoted: Yes, but they forgot about the thread in their own forum and everyone but you now knows the release date Quoted: Quoted: Soooo....@PalmettoStateArmory, any updates on the release date? I missed it also....care to share? |

Either Biden will get elected and they’ll keep churning them out or trump will get elected, gun sales will dry up and they’ll fix the design to incorporate what people want. Now if you like weapons designed for child soldiers and designed by someone whose name started with Kalash, then yes a short handguard will be perfect. |

Quoted: Until it starts getting less and less popular. So far, I haven't seen one single gun where the 1913 stock/brace interface doesn't look like an afterthought. So far, I haven't seen one single gun where the 1913 stock/brace interface doesn't look like an afterthought. I am more worried about function than form. I like having the option. I want a 16" 18" carbine using this operating system with a side folding stock more than the PDW version tbh. |

I'm honestly surprised that OP hasn't received a PM from PSA asking him to stop talking. "It could be a *game changer* for *serious users*" Naw fam. It looks cool, but that's the MCX. This thread is exactly why successful gun companies don't solicit from the consumer. |

@palmettostatearmory Are there any plans for a 9mm version outside of the AR-V? I read that it will be relegated to the AR-V lower but also recall Dale saying they were working on widening the JAKL lower magazine well to make it possible to fit Scorpion mags. Compatibility with milspec lowers is a huge selling point, but if there is a non-milspec version that's also compatible with Scorpion mags (and has an integrated 1913 rail a la BRN-180 |

It may be something they consider in the distant future, but we just want to get the standard version of each out. Thank you, Josiah |

Quoted: Half the tactical-flavored guns in existence were "designed by request from a Special Mission Unit" or something similar. That means less than nothing, just marketing wank which should be obvious by the fact that is uses the generic term "Special Mission Unit". The Honey Badger was never used by anyone for serious work. The SIG MCX seems to now be doing what the Honey Badger was intended for, and the versions of it that real-life units use also lack the silly suppressor covering handguards. You should google the lvaw and get back to us on that last part. |

If it has a stupid stubby rail as the only option and is monolithic i might have to be out on it. |
