I'll probably be able to NC this week, but it's doubtful I'll be able to do the normal countdown.
Hopefully I'll be in place by 2345Z, but it will be close. If you don't hear me prior to then it doesn't mean prop is bad. |
|
Like most living things, you run them through a combine, it'll pretty much take care of it.
|
Prop is looking decent based on my JS8 HB.
|
|
|
The net has started! Got one report with very strong signals during the brief countdown.

I saw your countdown in the decoder window but I wasn't at the PC during the countdown.

Sorry, gents, I'm out.
Was running fine, tuned, RX'd the warnings. Went to check in and fldigi locked up. Rebooted, but my drivers have somehow disappeared. |
|
|
I'm all ears if you find something better than fldigi. I'm having a hard time spending the money for HRD.

If something goes wrong, I did it. I tried FLDIGI for about a week and gave up. Just too many glitches. |

View Quote I actually paid for a copy of HRD but haven't messed around with digital modes because...inertia, I suppose. I already knew how to use fldigi, so why fix what ain't broken? Might be time to reexamine that decision. |
|
|
Prop was decent, we had five stations + NC, 100% copy on the NC side for all stations.
FLdigi can be tempermental, once you have it stable it seems to be pretty reliable. My biggest issues with it were RF-in-shack related. |
|

Only had a little of calling for check ins and some from weaponeer.

Mine seems to glitch constantly, either hanging on transmit or just turning off. I log in N3FJP and like it, I don't really want (learn) to use HRD for that, Id really only use the DM780 software. Rewriting all my macros is probably my biggest hangup aside from cost.

Fldigii has been mostly reliable for me, but poking around in DM870 a little last night, it seems to be a superior interface with less of that "it's still 2004" feel you get with fldigi and a lot of other ham software.
Going to see if I can get up to speed and use DM870 for the net next week. |

I'll be present to NC tonight's net. Hopefully prop cooperates.

Just turned on the radio and caught Robmkiv testing. Literally to the second.

If anybody is interested in another Olivia net, Tuesday night at 2000 Eastern the Vienna (VA) Wireless Society runs a net on 7071.5 16-500 +1500.

2300 and 2315Z reminders are out.
Thanks for the tip on the Tuesday net! ETA: all reminders out and the net is live on 7120 KHz. |

Not a bad turnout tonight!
Conditions were a bit marginal and the QRM did not help but I copied everyone OK. 7 stations + NC tonight. |

Got a partial "bursts here" after my report, then lost NC for quite awhile. Suddenly, NC was back calling for lates kind of rough tonight.
Thanks for running net tonight. |

Yes, right towards the end prop got really strange, it was lights on/lights off on my end.
I though initially it might have been AGC pumping but I think it was just strange propagation as 40M died. |

It was in and out on my end that was really only for NCS and GreenDragon. Nothing intelligible from the rest.
|
|
|
I couldn't hear Mach but heard everyone else. Greendragon got stepped on by Winlink pretty bad at the end but otherwise was fine. I turned the power up all the way and it seemed to help.

View Quote I was using 400 watts I never heard you either usually you are very strong very strange unusual prop I was on 40m FT8 a few hours earlier and the prop was crazy. It would be awesome into Falklands, Mongolia, Australia, then just disappear for several minutes and only a couple scattered reports in the US would show up for a while It was like some one was flipping a switch |

Mach
Nobody is coming to save us. . |
I'll be present to NC tonight.
Starting next week I'll be away from the radio for two or three weeks and we'll need volunteer NCs. |

First reminder out at 2310Z after getting fldigi to chill out.

Prop was middle of the road. I had 100% on everyone, a little flutter for the most distant stations.
I saw my first ever 10dB reading on SNR tonight on weaponeer's battery powered signal. Five stations + NC tonight. |

Good net tonight, thanks.
I did my SNRs during last calls. I knew that I couldn't scratch them out quick enough during report. |

View Quote My Bioenno 100 AHr battery was providing 12.4 VDC continuous to my FTDX3000 even as it was pumping out the full 100 watts to my low 40 meter dipole at about 15-18 feet at the feedpoint. (Wind blew the antenna down last weekend so I had to re-string it in the trees.) Battery voltage dropped to 12.3 by the end of my transmission. Back on receive the voltage went back to 13.1 VDC. I'm amazed at how well and how long that battery will run my whole station, HF, VHF/UHF, and my computer. And I still say we must have some kind of optimum path between us! |

First warning is out.
Locally I have S9 noise, hopefully Olivia does it's thing and we can all connect at net time. |

Net closed at 1930L with 3 check-ins + NCS. We had one new participant who joined us this week.
Seems like the band closed, I never got a comment from one station. |

To be fair, sometime during the preamble I knocked the vfo up 2khz while fooling with an audio cable

I lost NCS after the move back to 1500.
Was going to be short time, anyway, so I left the rig up and listening but had to attend to some other stuff. |

There was lots of QSB. |

Thanks for being NC, NMBMXER!
Another couple weeks and I should be back once the heavy part of my work is over for the quarter. |

I should be around tomorrow as long as something catastrophic doesn't go wrong while finishing up changing the radiator on my wife car after work today. Wife's car > radio, at least that's what she says lol.

Net closed at 1940L with 6 check-in's, good group tonight and much better prop than last week. I lost Greendragon and the new guy was weak here but every one else was booming.

How much did you get of me? Was it strong and dropped off?

Your check in was good, 100%. When I asked for a comment I heard it start up and then nothing else, I though we lost the band but then Mach boomed in so idk.

I use 40w typically on digital, i will rarely do 50w, on a 135' doublet that runs 300*N and 130*S about 25' AGL. |

Hmmmm, prop seems kinda weak here tonight. Barely hearing the net warnings on any of three different antennas.
The BuddiPole vertical I just put up in the back yard sounds best so far. Hope it gets better. |
