I don't pop in very often anymore. Not because I still don't prep but the basics have been covered over and again so I just check in for any new info that may get posted. Having said all that, I just noticed porous hasn't posted in several years. I've always enjoyed and learned from his post. I'm hoping he is doing OK and just been busy. Has anyone had any contact with him lately ? |

A lot of us OG Survival Forum members either outgrew the forum or matured past the “hobby survivalist” and went on to make it a lifestyle who more do it than talk about it. After a while you figure out what really works, or works for you and need forums less and less. New people come to the forum and don’t know the old guys from Adam and the practical advice the OG’s have to offer isn’t valued because they aren’t cool kids anymore. When I joined ARFCOM I was living in an apartment and buying things like it was a hobby. Then I bought land. Then I bought a house. Then I had a cabin built. Then I put solar on it. Then a well. Then…… But none of that is sexy and nobody wants to hear “the best day to start a prepper lifestyle was Yesterday, the second best day is right now”. Those years go fast. |

Apartment living -> Doublewide with a little property -> Better house with more property, multiple water sources + other off grid options etc. SF has been very very slow in recent years. I am able to log in with frequency because I pilot a desk. Hard to believe I have been on this forum for almost 20 years. Lurked for a year or so before I even signed up. |

Life happened to all of us Protus was a poster and a language Then there happened Protus Jr. so the Protus language dried up soon after Now Protus Jr. is grown or nearly so Pvt Root Beer is grown. Ops Jr. is grown. TJ's Jr. is grown. Many of the OG from the 2000s have suffered divorce. That has some side effects on posting. Not posting things that the hostile x could use. Not posting prepping that didn't happen because don't have that family anymore. I'm still here. I still quote Ops when newbies ask how to start. Hi all hope things are well. And realistically, most of what I have prepared for in my early days never happened. I started reading more and realized, prepping is all well and good and I still do it, but I am more realistic about my preps. |

Another interesting thing that happens to forums (not just here) is certain long time posters come to think of themselves as forum celebrities. Then, new posters arrive. New posters don’t know who the forum “celebrities” are and the long term posters, who think they are someone special, feel slighted because the new people don’t acknowledge their awesomeness. They then either run off the new posters or quit posting themselves. It’s silly but that’s the way some people are. |

I would also add that with the technical or semi-technical forums long time posters tend to get annoyed when someone new asks a question that the old posters think 'is common sense' or 'we just answered that two years ago!'. Not remembering that only a small handfull of answers get pinned, everything gets archived at some point or that they too were a new and likely ignorant poster at some point themself. Not directed at anyone who is the subject or poster of this thread but it is relevant to the above statement. |

This place sucks..especially that jimpoop guy...and that weirdo that does the Christmas exchange... Oh and that rock6 guy who wears multicam underoos  Don't ban me lol I'm good. Just busy as hell with work and life. Plus like many others once you get to a point...your the old crusty elder the new guys dust off with something like " how long will shelf stable tamales last "  |

The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

I get it..but honestly I think that's why I dd the BOB thread and the videos later on. It was a way for newcomers at the time to get the basics but also for many of us to add to it vs 10 threads a day asking for BOB GHB advice. I also think it's generational as well. Use older posters had to learn by doing vs researching. I can see how newer gens can be overwhelmed by the amount of info out there. Mouth to a hydrant more or less. Least I don't have to see kifaru threads anymore |

They were operating a business as direct to consumer reseller and doing really well for themselves and us. You may remember that it came to an end when they started calling people out for non-payment….. that’s not the same thing as “passing on a good deal to my ARFCOM brothers”. The ruse could have gone on for quite a while longer and site staff let it go as long as they could… I stacked deep too-it was a nice resource to have. |

Well, I guess all our kids are gonna grow up sometime. mine are 20 and 19 im about to retire and try to figure out how long till my wife finally goes to the doctor to get her perimenopauseal brain back on track. nothing turns out the way ya think when you're young. i have all the toys i ever wanted and cannot use them because of her risk protection order which may or may not end in November. fun fun fun |

Long-time reader; infrequent poster. I met several of you in person 20 years ago as a result of this forum. When it was considered weird to meet people from the internet. Remember group campouts? I hiked out to Hidden Pond in Ocala NF just a few weekends ago with one of my teenagers and camped for a couple of nights. The place was packed with campers coming in and out all weekend. Not much water except in Hidden Pond. Still a gem of a spot and jumping into Juniper Springs after hiking out remains a joy. Anyways, just jumping in here to say hello. |

Hidden pond was a nice spot. I wish I never stopped hiking. life happened, maybe more now now. maybe I'll figure out how to make it happen again. we bought a travel trailer in 22. Had a few great trips with that. Would like to get smaller one sometime. Gonna lose my ass in this one, but want to keep solar system I installed. |

| We are getting enough now practicing for the Murph challenge next month. Wife said "let's start practicing early this year" as last year we kinda ran out of time and literally just prepared for it the 2 weeks previous. |

Wife's cancer (lymphoma) was kick in the gut, but she's on the road to recovery and should be in the clear (as good as you can be) in August. That shit and realization has pushed our timeline to move back near her family (north of Panama City, FL) within the next 2-3 years. In fact, even with her treatments, she was able to do a semi-primitive camping trip, kayaking and paddleboarding down in Ocala NF a month ago, just a little slower and little more fatigued. ROCK6 |
