| Standing up an oak log section on end, so we could use the Alaskan sawmill to cut some cookies from it for slabs. Later we will use the tractor to set the rest of the log on the bandsaw mill and quarter saw it up. Then we ricked up the cookies on a pallet, strapped them down and moved the whole stack into the loafing shed to start drying. |

Needed some fill dirt for the pad I'm putting a versatube carport/tractor shed on. So I randomly decided to dig a trench in my front yard. Needed the trench anyways to push water to the street, so this was a two jobs for only one sore back deal. Attached File Attached File I quit trucking dirt about 2/3rds of the way through as I didn't need anymore. I'll pick rocks and rake this out sometime in the next week. Success though. Returning water to the town after they gave it to me courtesy of a curb cut in the property above mine.  Attached File |

Easy button for getting a good clean under the mower. NOOOO, I was not going under any of that-bucket or mower. Healthy respect for heavy objects regardless of hydraulic support.

New Kubota B2601 was dropped off yesterday afternoon. The place we bought in February was renovated inside, but the outside is a disaster. We had two 30' construction trailers and an 18' Morgan truck box in the back yard that partially sank into the ground next to a giant stump. Thankfully, I was able to get rid of them for free because we're surrounded by farmers who love that shit. The previous owner also decided he wanted to pave about 1/4 acre of the yard for his junk car hobby, so I have random patches of asphalt under grass. I pretty much knew I was going to need a machine long term (plus snow removal) and it was hard to turn down 0% financing. This tractor has been kicking ass! Zero regrets on going with the B series. I pushed out a few stumps and roots, and got a lot of the back yard graded off where the trailers were with the box blade. I'm actually going to be able to use the crushed asphalt I've been digging up to expand our parking area and fill in some of the swale that's been washing out next to our driveway. I don't think she has the juice to take out the giant stump next to our parking area, though. I tried digging under from different sides and I was afraid of damaging the loader. I might need to rent a mini excavator for that one.

But I want to build a building first to house that tractor. I'm kind of in that situation right now. The bigger, more capable machine would be really nice to help build the building. But I'd like to have the building ready when I get the tractor.

They came through with the helicopter and trimmed the ROW on the farm. Left a huge mess. Wouldn’t clean it up. So I did.  Also pushed everything back about 20-30 feet. Cleared a new 700 yard shooting range +/- 20 yards. Going to build a back stop out of the spoils of dirt I found from them putting the towers in 50 years ago. |

Kubota's L47 and M62 TLBs are really nice and "sort of" commercial grade, but whether new or used, they go for stupid money. You could get an actual yellow TLB (CAT, John Deere, etc.) that's in ok shape for about the same money as a similar Kubota, but would be far more capable. Two years ago tomorrow I bought this 2007 John Deere 410 for $45,600.00 delivered from PA. It had 3,800 hours and looked like it was treated well and kept under a roof, as the sun damage is very minimal.

Second cut. Turns out the weather forecast was increasing the probability of rain as I was cutting. Got 0.5" a few hours later and we're still not out of the woods. New Holland 1431 discbine (90 pto hp min) at 6.5 mph is about all my 106 hp (90 pto hp max) Deere 6405 can handle without overheating. Doesn't bog, but I've run out of cooling. Radiator has been blown out, flushed, etc. Attached File |

The 3038e is living at the house these days, I trailer it out to the acreage as needed. The Z930m is what cuts the fields most of the time (twice as fast & easier to transport). Since the 3038e is available I have been using it & the flail to do the developement road side cutting that I had been doing with the 1025R & finish mower. Way less stress with the flail as there are some steep areas that had the 1025R "crabbing" when traction was less than optimal & some deep drops to the ditch in places. I can still do the same swath with the 3038e & offset flail while keeping at least one set of tires on the pavement. It’s just a thing with that model line because of the design. One of the reasons why we ended up getting a larger tractor. |

At some point the previous owners had an above ground swimming pool. They got rid of it years ago, but never did anything about the 8-12” deep crater it left in the back yard. It finally stopped raining on Monday so I had a couple yards of fill dirt delivered and started adding it to the crater. I’m still learning how to properly move/grade dirt, but it’s starting to look OK…I think   Of course it’s been raining again since then so I can’t finish it without creating a bigger mess - most of our soil is really dense clay. |

Wide dries fast, blows less often but that looks too wide to even bale as singles. |

I feel your pain with the rain. This was one of the most difficult years to make hay in the 20 we have been doing it. What part of PA? Eastern PA/Berks County. Fortunately we're on a pretty elevated hill. A bunch of farmers near us in the lower areas have flooded out fields and it looks like they lost a substantial amount of crops in the past week. We got about 7 inches of rain between Mon-Tue last week. It started to overwhelm our drainfield and I was pretty nervous that we might have a septic backup at some point. |

Attached File There is no year round standing water on our quarter section, or for almost a mile in any direction. Years ago I set some stock tanks and keep them cleaned and filled. Trail cams have shown these to be a huge draw for critters, especially turkeys. 150 gallon IBC makes it easy. It has been hot and dry here of late. |

Stopped by my parents' place to pick up my dad's moldboard plow yesterday. I started using it today to rip out the root system for this big stump in my backyard. So far it's done a pretty good job. I still might need to rent an excavator to finally get this thing out, though.

My daughter's new swing set showed up today. They thoughtfully delivered it to the end of the driveway (in all fairness, my wife requested they not block the driveway with it) in the grass, so I had to relocate the boxes until I can get out back and level a spot in the yard to assemble it on. Finally got the large stump removed this afternoon.  I really didn’t want to damage my loader trying to force it out, so I spent the last week digging a lot by hand and cutting roots with my ax and chainsaw, then removing dirt with the bucket. I was able to flip the stump over, but it was too big for the bucket and had to drag it to the junk pile.    Time to start filling in the hole and grading for grass seeding |
I finally was able to get take out a 12" diameter stump from a dead Elm tree that we cut down about four years ago when we first moved in to this property: I drilled a bunch of holes in it and kept it soaked with a hose for the past month or so. Every time I drove by, I would smack the crap out of it with my splitting maul...basically connecting the dots (Holes). When it started breaking up, I decided to go after it with the rippers on my box blade. I set the two middle rippers down and made several passes taking out chunks and roots with each pass:   I was amazed at how much of a root system it had:   I finished off the hole by a little back dragging and then went over it with my drag harrow behind the Kawasaki Mule:  |

Finally finished grading the back yard (large stump removed last week) and seeded it last night. Added the straw covering this morning before work since we’re supposed to get rain this afternoon. I think I’m at 10 yards of fill dirt and 16 yards of topsoil added this summer   Depending on how much rain we get tonight, I may roll it tomorrow or Saturday. |

We have a "free" boat we got from my wife's uncle that has been perpetually in the way in our garage since we moved in. I decided to finally dig it out and move it down to the barn below our house, but I don't love the idea of having it sit outside, even with the cover on. Then I realized it would probably fit in our smaller garage/shed if I moved junk around. We ran into our neighbor later at the market and she asked "Umm, were you towing a boat across your yard with your tractor today?" "Yes, yes I was."
