My 6.5 from DEguns got here Tuesday. Shot it Wednesday morning with Hornady 140 AMAX. I made a video with the results and some chrono data here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crHUhGuBc14

I put one of the $60 Surefire Pro Comps on it and worked great. I use APA Little Bastard II brakes on my other rifles but wanted something slimmer to match the barrel on the RPR. The Surefire did the trick. I mounted it with shims instead of a crush washer it came with.

I am very happy with the rifle and a little amazed it puts the same bullets in the same groups as my $4000 SAC build. Just have to see how it holds up over time but so far its the heat.

$1000 and its shooting like a Short Action Custom? Awesome.

Gotta start making barrels for these.

This is the SAC rifle with the same 140 AMAX: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNGlo9G3mwI

The build quality is the difference between a BMW and a Ford compared to the RPR and under hard use I feel like the Ruger would be in pieces before the SAC would ever slow down but at least in this one very small sample size when it comes to shooting groups at 100 with factory ammo the Ruger is right there. I have to add I am far from the best tiny group shooter but I was impressed with the Rugers results.

Cool video. Mark built me a 260 with very similar specs to that. My RPR shoots just about as good as my SAC, but like you said fit and finish is not even close. I don't think any of us are going to get rid of our custom guns.

There seems to be a group of people who are upset about how week the RPR is actually shooting. The reviews coming from the people who have shot them have been great.

My main concern is whether the RPR can be made into a better rifle once a person that has shot it awhile and is ready to step up a bit. I know Ruger said that the barrels are changeable. Could it be a nice rifle to customize down the road? If so, then this could be a nice starter precision rifle as advertised then built up when the shooter is ready. Guess time will tell if/when 3rd parties start making aftermarket parts. If it is not, might as well save the pennies for a GAP or similar. My gripe is the short barrel for the 308, which I like. Already asked ruger if they will accept special orders and the answer was no. In the mean time, keep those range reports coming.

What do you think would make it better?  I'm sure there will be solid replacement barrel options for it very soon. Other than that I can't really think of anything that needs done to it. If you want a better fit and finish you're better off going the custom route. I'm very happy with mine for the price point. If you look back on page 9. You can see my velocities on the hornady amax 140.    Mine don't look as fast as your results witht the same magneto speed chronograph.   So, what sensitivity did you have your set to?   Mine?  Whatever it came with factory.    Thanks

Range Report:

I have acquired an RPR in .308 for a friend of mine to do a write up on it for various magazines. I will be putting it through its paces during an NRA LE Precision Rifle Instructors course here in Colorado at the end of August. My friend had Ruger send him this rifle specifically for his review. I am excited to have my hands on it and took it out for the first time today. I had on hand an M14, LaRue (SR-25), PMAG, and an ASC magazine. Of course the LaRue and the PMAG worked fine, but the M14 and ASC mag had issues. The M14 mag needs material removed from the rear so that the bolt can catch the round. It worked when I canted the bottom of the mag forward allowing the rear of the mag to miss the bolt. The M14 mag (borrowed from a friend) seated and released just fine. The ASC mag would not seat. I also have not been able to get the ASC mag to be very reliable in may PTOBR either. On to the short review.

RPR .308

20" Barrel
PA ACSS HUD 4-14 Scope (Thanks to PA for taking care of me on this one)
LT-104 one piece mount
LaRue/ Harris BR-S and LT706 QD Bipod combo
AAC 762-SD
Ammo: Federal Gold Metal Match BTHP 168 (two different lot numbers)

I spent a total of 40 rounds during this outing. Although I had a few different lot numbers I do not believe it made much of a difference. One major problem I had was that the teeth on the AAC appear to have worn down and are not keeping the suppressor in place causing it to come loose.

I first took advantage of the fantastic folding stock and eyeballed a bore sight and adjusted the scope to get on paper.

My first five shots were to get on paper. BTW I did not do any break in procedures.

Here were the very next five rounds at 100 yards. Those are 1/2" squares.

Soon after that I started to get downward stringing which I later found was my suppressor coming loose due to worn teeth.

I finally got the idea that something was wrong on this one.

I snugged up the suppressor and shot this 5 shot group next.

In conclusion this rifle has everything I was looking for in a reasonably priced precision rifle. The trigger is great but has a bit of creep that isn't a big deal. The adjustability is awesome and the bolt movement is very efficient. I did have to tighten down the bolt knob as it was loose when I got it. I will likely add some blue loctite to it. I am neither here nor there on the rail system. I have other preferences but this one is fine. The selector is a bit odd as it takes more pressure to put it back onto safe than it does to take it off and it is a bit mushy. Once again it is not a deal breaker on such a great rifle. I did find that it is necessary to depress the magazine release lever all the way to get a positive release of the mag. The short mags definitely will be more useful in a prone position when you want to keep on target while changing mags. The longer mags require that you move the gun to get it out of the well. All in all this rifle has great potential.

I know nothing about precision rifles.

I do know this, the first instance where I come across one of these in a store or shop at $999 or less and in 6.5, I  WILL BUY IT.

Probably wont be for a year or more since they are so hot.

Ruger has been putting out some very hot, innovated and fun products lately.

I would have never thought I would ever have any interest in such a rifle, which proves how well Ruger is at attracting customers.

Well I did it! Put an order in yesterday afternoon for a 6.5. My new favorite crack dealer said none of her distributors had any in stock but we're expecting them soon. She'd called earlier because someone else had asked earlier.

$899!

I can wait a bit for that. Especially since I want to clear out some unused things in the back of the safe. They'll fund the scope and accessories.

I have not changed the sensitivity since I took it out of the box. I'll know for sure if the speed is right when I take it out to distance. So far the magneto speed has has been good with other distance verified loads.

Not sure what you would want to do to make it better. I mean it will never be a GAP or the like. This is designed to kill the "I'll buy a 700 and a chassis" market and I think it will. The whole buying a 700 and slowly sinking $3K more into over time is not the smartest way to go about things. I did it. I know better now.

This thing is a legit $1000ish half MOA gun or at least mine is. You get a whole rifle for what most good chassis systems cost.I have no desire to put more money in my gun. I am just going to shoot the hell out of it and by the time the barrel is toast new ones will be available. I have/had rifles from GAP and SAC. If thats what a guy wants thats what they should get. The RPR is not that and wont ever be that. It is a great way to shoot accurately for not a lot of money.

Nice quick review. Didn't think it would be a GAP but just curious on upgrade potential. From what I have read so far, seems the barrel would be the thing to change for a little better upgrade. A few don't like the rail and some posts don't like the trigger but livable with current. My real only gripe is why only a 20 inch barrel for 308. By the time I possibly get one, barrels should be out. You folks doing reviews are doing a great job informing folks on the fence. Keep up the good work.

I contacted them to ask which model number aics magazine fit and was told an engineer would contact me last Monday.  I'm still waiting.   Not impressed with them.  I got the information for aics instead.  Good luck

I bought mine knowing their may be limitations but the value and price point made the RPR a great way to get into "precision" at a fraction of the cost. I've ordered a Vortex Razor HD 5-20x50, I'll change out the grip and I'll consider a different rail if it's ever offered.

A shooter will likely have to spend at LEAST 3x the rifle's purchase price in ammo or components before they come anywhere close to "being limited" by the rifle...

AICS mags came in.   Wasn't sure how tall the 10 round would be but is perfect.  I also purchased a 5 round.   They go in and come out like butter.   Wish the RPR came with them.  I loaded up a dummy round that was 0.015 off my lands or 2.89 OAL.  As advertised, these will do well at 2.88 or smaller.  2.89 fit but jammed.

I was shooting at 4395ft in the black hills. With the magneto speed we were clocking 2685, at 85 deg F.  I figured it would have been higher. I'll add both 6.5s were within 10 fps of each other. 140 amaxs. I thought it was super slow, but put the info into strelok and rang the 1000 yard gong repeatedly.

It felt ok at the range.  Badger ordinance was the only set I could find that would work.  I just don't think I want to pay what they are asking.  Any other suggestions on brand?

I ordered the same Vortex HD out of MileHigh and they had a special which included a free Spuhr mount so I selected the SP-5002 in 1.50".  I'll post some pictures when they arrive.  I also have a LaRue LT104 coming that is also at 1.5."

great.  I'll see what you come up with and I am curious to see what the LaRue 1.5 looks like. please post some pictures as soon as  you can

I purchased the vortex rings from cabelas and have a month to decide.  That's a good deal on the vortex and the spuhr.   I only paid 1500 shipped for my vortex razor HD 5-20 50mm.

More range time today... had a F'n headache from hell but I don't think it effected my shooting all that much. Was rushed a few times due to in-coming weather but for the most part, with the exception of a couple rounds, I think I've got a good load to work on...

140gr SMK with 42.0 H4350 at .015 off the lands.

140 SMK with 41.5 H4350 at .015 of the lands, one went out on me... going to reshoot these loads again to duplicate.

Berger 130's show promise with 41.5 H4350, also at.015 of the lands, going to try deeper so they work in the mag... again, one round off to side.

Berger 130 with 42.0 H4350... 1st went low for some reason.

Yeah, I'm willing to pay a little premium to get one now, but not what most of the GB auctions are going for.  I'm on a waiting list at the LGS for $1075.

A local shop here has a 243 for 950.00 been on the shelf for a while.
If I can make it through thisI can get through anything...

RPR .308

Bought from MACE Sports - $975.

Sighted in at 100.  Functioning 100%.   Metal DPMS mags slightly sticky (more effort required to remove).  Magpul mags insert and remove with ease.

Using GM168 and TAP168 - MOA or better as others have found.  Sorry no pics of target.

No break-in period.

Trigger is crisp, but strange feel compared to Rem 700 I am used to.  If I write anymore I will be posting the same info others have and not as well written in most cases!

Bottom line - This rifle shoots well and is a good value.

Leupold MK4 LR/T 4.5-14x40mm MD
Burris XTR rings QD (med height)
Harris
Eberlestock X3

I pushed mine a little harder with H4350 and it pushed it out of the node it was in, and I saw no real velocity gains. I still had no pressure signs at 42.6 grains

what would you say your node range ended up being?   Mine seemed to be 42 grains.   I'm going back and adjusting OAL.  I need to get it down beloew 2.88 OAL to fit my AICS mags.   Then I'll be happy.

I should have clarified I'm shooting a .243.  I can't even load that long.  The 243 is happy right around 42 as well.

Took the 6.5 out Saturday and played with it on steel out to 924. Basically just goofing around burning up some loads I had sitting around and trying out a new PhoneSkope iphone adaptor for filming through my spotter. It was humid that morning so the camera was able to get some pretty good shots of the trace. Very happy with this rifle so far. I'm going to start working on a load for it this week.

Here is the video I made of the trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pLSptz9fTY

For those willing to pay $1300, there is one in .243 at the Cabela's in Hamburg PA.

Can reserve it over the phone for 5 days with no cash.

Nice looking rifle, but I want one in 6.5 and for less, willing to wait.

The .243's seem to pop up here and there.  The 6.5's are unobtanium though.

I talked to Seekins last week and they answered my post in their industry section.

We will have this solution for you as soon as my Ruger rifle gets here. The mounting nut needs to change slightly to allow the hand guard to mount flush with the front of the action. It will install exactly the same as our AR15 hand guard.

Looks like this will soon be a go for Seekins handguards.

So is there any interest in a group buy from the vendors here? Opportunity for a vendor to increase his Ruger volume????
And deal for everyone looking for this rifle through the site.

You're more than welcome to shoot mine a bit to solidify the want. I'm taking donations of brass, bullets, and 4350...

LOL there is no way it would work right now.  Vendors are already waiting on guns and the prices aren't going to be lower than what the lowest prices already are.

The vendors don't need any help with this gun.
