I had been sitting on a box of parts for an AK-74 build for almost 2 years due to moving and work situations and I finally decided to settle in and build this weekend. It'll be nice to have another 5.45 gun. I have to say this came out just liked I planned in my head. The only changes I may make is adding a Saberwerks KOP for a red dot, which shouldn't be too hard with the clamp-on gas block/front sight.
Parts list: Bulgarian AK-74 parts kit NoDak Spud Receiver Venom Tactical Bolton gas block/front sight VLTOR stock tube with Magpul MOE stock US Palm Grip AK Builder chrome lined barrel Barrel threaded to 1/2-28 by ADCO VG6 Precision Gamma brake It needs to have a final finish put on. I haven't decided if I'll ship it out for a cerakote job or just rattle-can it myself. Whichever I choose I'm going to shoot it a bunch before I do it.

As Armed Farret said this is an Engage Armament Rifle, I was only the photographer in this.. I can tell you a few things (some are obvious) it's an SBR chambered in 7.62x39 on NoDak Spud receiver, painted in some shade of green, it has a Venom Antidote brake, Venom Bolton gas block and wood furniture. |

Bulgarian AK-74 with US .223 barrel and Circle 10 5.56 mags. Bent from a flat. Original 5.45 bolt, runs fine. Matched furniture using minwax "gun stock" stain, and 6 coats of "Waterlox" for the finish, wiped on, and knocked down a little with steel wool. |

Attached File I enjoyed building this one. It is built on an Atlantic Arms "AAM-47" receiver. Beautiful item. The parts are (mostly) from an all new M+M Industries Romanian PM90 parts kit from AIM. Obviously I switched the furniture. I used a melonite 4150 barrel from Windham Weaponry. Gorgeous barrel! I am a huge fan of old-school Bushmaster/ WW barrels. G2 trigger group. Pic shows it with an MI knockoff optics mount. I used a UTG, non-traditional, side rail attached with screws. I know you purists will curse me, but I really like how easy they are to install, how they hold zero, and how universal they seem to be for AK mounts. Rifle runs like a champ. |

Lockdown project completed. This is my first AK build and was really a fun project! Attached File For my first build I took the easier path and started with an Arms of America kit with populated, headspaced barrel. It’s their current WBP Polish forged trunnion kit with Polish CHF CL barrel, and I built on a Kalashnikov-USA “Tullytown” receiver. It went together super easy with the Toth Tool barrel tool and rivet jaws. I finished it with Norrell’s moly resin. I had to trim the top cover a bit to length and in the recoil spring latch area but otherwise everything fit great. The buttstock is an Ironwood laminate I had picked up years ago for a WASR that ended up in the parts stash. Handguard is an RS Regulate, and the muzzle brake is off of the PSA AK-E (their “tank brake”). Here are a couple of build WiP pics: Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Lockdown 2020 continues to diminish the kit stash. Romanian kit with US barrel and a BFPU handguard set and grip from sovietstocks. I had a 100% receiver in the stash collecting dust and surface rust that, with a little cleanup and light scrub to brighten the rivets and edges, ended up matching the wear on the kit pretty well. Added a ratty mag and a 30 year old Soviet sling and it came out looking like an old AK should.Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

It's gonna be a good weekend. 1976 Tula kit, all matching numbers with the exception of the cover. The front handguard is an early laminate from a type 2 or 3 and the grip is Romanian. I'm going to keep it as is and try to get the receiver to match the rest. Man, I love this hobby.     |
