Here is my WASR 10-63 with a 1973 trunion stamp including triangle/arrow logo. She's a keeper, very beautiful and quality AK, everything is strait, and looks correctly built. Century has certainly upped their WASR game over the last few years in my opinion. I put a coat of clear finish on the wood and used Alumayde II spray can finish from Brownells. The action and trigger are super smooth, almost as good as my Krebs Custom.

I know WASR rifles are a crap shoot, this one was hand picked by me and I feel lucky to have found her. She sits next to some great company in my Avtomat Kalashnikova gun safe.

I cut the cheek piece portion off the dragunov stock (banned era thumbhole stock), I formed it using belt sander and dremel tool to form a channel at the front and rear of the cheek piece to fit into the wire stock at two points; front and rear. When done, tape up everything good then JBweld it at the two contact points… when the JBweld dried, I applied a few coats of true oil.

My new WASR!! Was not a fan of the bright glossy black finish nor the unfinished wood. Thanks to input from arfcom, I stained the wood with Minwax Red Mahogany  225. Sand lightly, not coffee table smooth. Three coats of stain. Then take a packet of RIT Scarlett dye and mix with a typical $1 bottle of rubbing alcohol. Brush liberally over the wood many times. Buff the dried salt and scuzz off. Let dry for a few days in hot sun. Then finish with many coats of low gloss tung oil (the only way to go). Buff the metal with some Scotch Brite and put it all back together. Buy more mags and a case of ammo.

The result, IMHO, is waaaay nicer than it was from Century. I love red, and wanted red furniture. In real life, the wood looks much darker than it does in the photos, and it's harder to see the grain and graduations. It looks very, very deluxe... yet soft enough that it's still believable it's on an AKM and not a coffee table. I am very happy...

Okay I don't own these anymore but after looking through this thread I figured I'd join in...

From left to right; 2003 SAR1, GP WASR-10, and a Ewbanks build I bought from Joeken when they were still in business and reputable.

I miss them dearly! And you should have seen the looks on my neighbors faces when I was taking the pics that day lol!

SAR2 upgraded with K-Var NATO length OD green stock set, replaced the original neutered FSB with a Romanian 22mm threaded FSB, and a CNC warrior 22mm AK74 style brake. It's wearing a POSP 42x6 VD scope.

We'll see how she shoots my next range outing. I'm trying to figure out if I can work a formula to use the 7.62x39 calibrated chevrons for 5.45. The 5.45 dedicated scopes are just out of my price range at the moment.

Can you post a closer/clearer picture of the FSB and CNC Warrior brake?  One of my SAR-3s has the Romy FSB and the AK-USA copy of the Romy 22mm brake.  I haven't seen a good pic of the CNC Warrior brake on a rifle yet.

Here is the K-Var Romanian surplus FSB with 22mm threads and the CNC Warrior 22mm Romanian brake.

Forgive the kinda nasty FSB pins. They didn't quite line up with the original SAR2's FSB pin channels in the barrel, so they were re-drilled with a straight 1/8th" drill bit to the same diameter as the K-Var pins.  What I did though to keep the FSB straight, was pound each pin in from the opposite side, so that's why they don't look the same, but what it did do was even out the forces so the FSB did not want to rotate and take a cant when I was pinning it in place.

An admirable little bit of Khyber Pass/WESCOG gunsmithing if I don't say so myself.

However, I DID do a good job of getting the FSB muzzle device retainer plunger pin into place. It's much easier than other FSB plungers, because it only has to hold in the spring from the rear. The 22mm Romanian threads on the front of the FSB keep the little plunger rod captive and from coming out.

And the Moly-Coat the SAR 2 will get once it and the POSP prove itself at the range, will hide a multitude of sins.

One thing to be aware of with the CNC Warrior 22mm Romanian brake is that it's apparently NOT Romanian milspec, and won't fit a Romanian, or maybe any other AKM/AK-74 bayonet from the former Warsaw Pact. That's actually why he took it down from his site for awhile because people complained it would not fit their bayonets. Personally, I didn't care, so I was very happy when he told me he still had them, just didn't list them.

Oh, and one more little cosmetic detail for the PSOP's faux Butler Creek lens cap.

Thanks for posting the pics so quickly.  Yes, I was aware that it's not an exact copy of the Romanian 22mm brake, I just hadn't seen one mounted on a FSB, so I was curious what it looked like.  As I said, I've got a SAR-3 with the Romy FSB and an exact copy of the Romy brake, and I've got another that's got a Bulgy FSB with a 24mm brake done by Dave at Elite Firearms.  Personally, even though it's not "correct" I like the look of the Bulgy FSB and 24mm brake better.

As for the guys who complain about not being able to mount their bayonets, let me quote the great Jeff Spicoli by saying, "those guys are fags!"

Beautiful rifle sir, nicely done.

Again, very very nice.

There was some discussion on hunting with a Draco, so I took this picture joking around.

I thought it was funny.

Put a small washer under the rear tang screw and you will eliminate the stock/frame gap

After I took the pic I noticed it to. Took care of that problem. Now looking at getting the Magpul AFG and either an Eotech or Trijicon rx30..

My WASR 10/63... I plan on adding a rear sight MRD sight to it because I like the classic wood look.

The only picture I have of my old wasr-10.

Is that a Tantal brake on the end? Didn't think those would work what with the different caliber and all. How's it handle with it on? I always liked the looked of the Tantal muzzle brake.

Yep, it's a tantal. I bought it at a gunshow without realizing it was for a 5.45, so I had a local gunsmith add a couple millimeters of clearance so it would work. A few years ago, there were some US manufactured copies in 7.62, but I don't know how many are still around.

It adds quite a bit of weight to the muzzle, but it does tame the recoil pretty well. Also, it's a lot louder than a slant brake

My '82 "G" kit built by fellow board member, Exile and myself earlier this year. I just got it back from Troy at In Range after having selector notches & markings engraved and the metal refinished with KG over parkerizing. The stock set was refinished by Z_recto.

The bayonet is Iraqi that was brought back from Iraq and given to me by a friend who was in the Marine Corps. The magazine is a Romanian one that I obtained and brought back when I was a civilian contractor in Kuwait.

For the price I paid, this gun has been a bargain.

Here is one I picked up a few years ago.
I sanded down the laminate stocks. Hit them with some cherry stain, wiped it off.did this a few times. I think it gave it a nice light/dark layered look.
