I'm getting the parts gathered right not for my next build. An Aero Precision M5 308. Here's the parts list

1. Aero Precision M5E1 Enhanced Upper Receiver

2. Lower Receiver: Aero Precision M5 (.308) Stripped Lower Receiver

3. Barrel: RAINIER ARMS ULTRAMATCH MOD2 .308 BARREL 18"

RAINIER ARMS ULTRAMATCH MOD2 .308 BARREL - 18" SATIN

4 Bolt Carrier Group: AERO PRECISION .308/7.62 BOLT CARRIER GROUP (BCG) - BLACK NITRIDE

5. Trigger: Geissele SSA-E

6. Lower Parts Kit Aero Precision M5 .308 Enhanced Lower Parts Kit w/No FCG or Pistol Grip

7. Buttstock: Seekins Precision Procomp10x (Can't have the Magpul PRS Gen 3 since i'm in the People's Republic of Kalifornia)

8. Buffer Assy:  Aero Precision M5 .308 Rifle Buffer Kit

9. California Legal grip: Strike Industries Simple Featureless Grip

10. Hand Rail : Aero Precision M5 (.308) Enhanced M-LOK Handguards, Gen 2

11. Muzzle Brake: VG6 Precision Lambda PRS30

12. Ambidextrous Safety Battle Arms Development BAD ASS Pro Ambidextrous Safety Selector

13. WMD Melonited Rifle length Gas Tube

14. JP Tuned and Polished Extra Power Large Frame Rifle Buffer Spring

15. Gas Block: Geissele Super SS Gas Block .750

I can't WAIT to get this Rifle built but I can't find out too much online about what kind of ammo the 18" Ultramatch MOD barrel likes so I'm putting it out there to see if anyone has had any experience with this barrel in .308 and exactly what kind of .308 ammo it likes

Your prompt replies will be greatly appreciated.

I usually tell people to get M5 Upper and not the M5E1 Enhanced Uppers simply because it limits you to one rail.

Being a match barrel and 1:10 twist, I’d get both 168 & 175gr SMKs and see if it likes one better than the other.

@Vesticles

Optics Planet has the OD and tungsten gray versions listed as “estimated to ship in 7-20 days”, other colors are “extended backorder - unknown ETA”.

If you’re not 100% set on the Radian, OP has PRI gas busters in stock.

For a .308 build, is a double ejector bolt worth the added cost over a single ejector? Looking at Toolcraft for both in the spirit of comparing apples to apples.

Criterion rifle length 18" barrel, SLR adjustable gas block, rifle buffer/buffer tube.  Shooting factory Hornady 6.5CM 140gr ELD-Ms.

I received some advice that I should get the Tubbs flat wire spring, so I gotta order one of those and try it out

I am putting together a mid length upper and have run into a snag. BA 16” government profile using a WyndimWeoponary barrel nut regulator AR mid length hand guards. Problem is hand guard is about 1/16” to far forward. Anyone experienced this before. Also can’t use a BCM charging handle won’t clear the lower.

I have the same setup, 18" criterion barrel, SLR adjustable gas block, but with Aero M5 carbine tube/buffer.  I initially zeroed/tuned it with a newer lot of Hornady 140 ELD-Ms and it ran great.  Then I shot a lot that was a few years older and it was wildly over-gassed and blowing primers on every shot.  Its a temperamental gun for sure.

I was using a silencerco Omega on the gun for both tuning and with the second lot.

What is it doing wrong?

I just put mine together with a Rainier Arms Ultra Match barrel and Superlative Arms bleed off gas block and it took only 4 shots to adjust for the perfect gas amount to hold open on last round. Using a SilencerCo Omega with standard M5 rear end setup.

I think its short stroking and its popping primers.  I just ordered a Tubbs flat spring so we'll see if that helps.  Then I'm going to close the SLR gas block and walk it back open

Aero M5 receiver set
Aero BCG
Aero LPK
PRI gas buster CH
Geissele SD-C
Criterion 16” M118LR barrel, rifle gas
Superlative Arms AGB
MI combat rail, 15”
POF anti-tilt receiver extension
JP SCS
Trijicon AccuPower 2.5-10x56
MI 30mm scope mount

Eventually I plan to add an offset red dot. Only took 10 rounds to get the gas tuned and scope zeroed. This thing shoots softer than some of my AR15’s.

This. OldCat, what barrel do you have there?

[#33]
Wilson arms. It’s a beautiful barrel. The barrel extension is what looks wonky. Truth be told the polish work on the extension is quite nice, like glass.

I haven’t cycled anything through it. I had some time over the weekend and decided to build it. I torqued the barrel and was cleaning up my mess, that’s when I noticed it.  I feverishly looked for pics and info. I decided my best bet was to pull it and call both manufacturers Monday. The seller is willing to issue a refund on the barrel ( I hate to do that , the sucker really is sexy. And they are difficult to find right now). Aero told me if I had an issue will cycling down the road I could send it to them. They would change the angle of the ramps and reanodize after their work ( I have to say they are a terrific company to work with).

I am waiting to here back from wilson , the ejection side of those ramps looks wider to me. One wonders if it was just a heavy hand by an over zealous smith at Wilson’s. I just have never seen ports so wide on a extension and so shallow on an upper. Haha I got the best of both worlds.

These are the feed ramps on my build. I just cycled and ejected two rounds to see how it would feed. They both entered and exited fine. They did however leave some copper marks on the feed ramps and barrel extension. I'm not sure if that's something I should be worried about or not.

That gap and angle messing up my brass is one of the things that was concerning to me.  How bad is it?  Also have you discharged a round yet?

That looks like copper from the bullet jacket being left behind during extraction of a live round. Not something you normally have to worry about. Longitudinal marks on the brass would be a better indicator of something that needs to be addressed. You can polish it up if you want. It's easier to do the barrel extension before the barrel is installed, but can also be done after. I use a bore mop on a section of cleaning rod chucked to a cordless drill using Flitz. I use a short section of PEX pipe as a bore guide (but from the bottom of the upper) to protect the upper. Don't re-use the bore mops for anything else and thoroughly clean out all traces of the Flitz when done (it gets everywhere). If it needs more blending than that, you can use round files etc. before polishing, but don't go overboard causing permanent damage. It's hard to mess up by just polishing. A lot of these issues self-correct after a few hundred rounds.

Just made it home from my first trip to the range with my first ever 308 m5 build. After reading all of the horror stories on here, I was pleasantly surprised by my gun running suppressed like a top. After dialing down the gas after the first mag, it ran like a straight from the factory rifle. After bore sighting at home last night, it took me a total of 2 rounds to get sighted in at 100 yards. Pic related. I sort of went all out with this build with the buy once cry once mentality. Here is the build list and a couple of photos.

Aero NIB BCG

PS: To the dude with the glasses working at Arms Fair who told me I would never be able to build a 308 AR that ran reliably suppressed using the Saker, I did it. So ha!

Your first image seems to be formatted correctly. I gave you bad advice on quoting my post to see the formatting, it appears the site automatically converts image formatting to url formatting in quotes, probably to keep quotes smaller when displayed.

The tags that look like [ i m g ] and [ / i m g ] without the spaces are the ones that should work. Just make sure the url within them end in an image format like .jpg. The imgur link to the album won't work.

ETA: This is a pic thread, so here's mine.

Anyone have a line on a 10.5" barrel? Can't find one in-stock anywhere.

Yes. Specifically for my Aero M5.

Ran my Aero M5 308 with Criterion barrel at an NRA Midrange match (500yds) under the fairly new "Tactical AR" class. Kept it around 1MOA for most of the shots.

Hi all,  i have an Aero M5 build,
it is taking longer due to the current situation with parts.

I have M5 upper receiver and BCG, M5 Lower and LPK and Carbine buffer.
and the following.
a fancy straight drop in trigger
a kriss stock
a generic 4140 cromo 18" barrel, w/gi muzzle
a nice mid length gas tube.

it is all together loosly, save for the gas system.
Due to my naivety and impulsiveness,  I bought a generic 13" mlock hand guard from CDNN,  it is supposedly for 308,
but the top of the rail,  is lower than the rail on the receiver,  by about (2 credit cards)  -  don't laugh, i'm too lazy to go into the garage to get my digital caliper.

I suppose i could reuse this on some other ar 15 build in the future,  but I expect I will use it in the interim, to replaced eventually.

Besides buying directly from Aero,  what do I look for,  so I don't make this mistake next time in getting the rail height to match?

(this brings up two add'l questions,  (is there enough adjustability in raising the front MBIS, (or lowering the rear) with canted rails, or should i just cant a simple red dot off to the side? and ignore the front? while I use this misfit one?

the adjustable gas block  is in the mail, and then I'll get everything torqued down.

Next ,  I'm looking at scope mounts next.  I hope to use it to shoot pigs, when I get to Texas, so I was thinking of the
vector hog hunter 3x12 as a starting place for inexpensive glass.

thanks much in advance for your considered comments.
