Got my order in from strapworks in 2 days and promptly put together 2 of these. Man, they are awesome! The only issue I had was with the female buckle. If you look at the pictures in the instructions the female buckle has the same 2-slot strap hold as the male buckle. The ones I got from strapworks were a bit different and required a bit of needle-work on my part. I lucked out in that the wife happened to have a nice heavy needle in her sewing kit and I happened to have some very strong thread that seems as if it's been soaked in wax. Made for a really nice, very tight, very strong fit. And the first thing I did was try out the back-pack carry as shown in the SLING USE section hen EDIT: Forgot to mention, the grand total, after shipping, was $8.59 per sling (provided you order the right amount of 1-1/2" strap) |

We have 1-1/4in flat nylon webbing in khaki only, it is a new thing for us, at 35 cents a foot. We also have 1-1/4in lightwieght (600# test) polypro in black only for 10 cents a foot. We will happily send a 6in webbing sample at no charge so you can decide if it will be what you would be interrested in. This is only for sale via phone orders, so call your order in for this stuff. Yes. Though it is not our usual method, we can accomodate local transactions. If you wanted to come to our workshop we could get everything ready while you wait. If you call first we can have it waiting for you. If you wanted it sewn up we could do that on the spot. -David |
it sounds like when you ordered you were looking for the double adjust side release buckle, but ordered the single adjust instead. If you ordered over the phone, I appologize for not qualifying the buckle style. If you ordered online then you probably just clicked on the wrong buy button in our catalog pages. This is David again from Strapworks.com. I had the opportunity to make one of these slings the other day for an air soft team out of memphis. I just wanted to note that it occured to me that the slide that travels up and down the sling could potentially wear down. I replaced the plastic slide with a rounded metal slide powder coated flat black. These only run 59 cents, so the cost doesn't go up alot. If you prefer, we have other colors available, too. Including: brown, flat black, gloss black, and olive drab. Remember, if you want to design your own sling or harness, we are here to help. Fax us the design and we will see what we can do. | Dave @ Strapworks: I have purchased many items from strapworks and have been very satisfied with the quality and service! Out of curiosity, is there any reason why 1.25" wide polypropylene isn't very popular? Most single point sling adapters and mil-adapters use 1.25" wide slings. 1.5" wide webbing will fit just as fine but it's something I have been meaning to ask. |
1-1/4in webbing is available, but not as readily available as 1-1/2in. We currently carry 1-1/4in black lightweight polypro. The main reason we don't carry a large selection is because the military started ordering predominantly 1in webbing. 95% of our military orders these days are 1in webbing. In addition to this, most of the webbing hardware manufacturers have decreased the amount of product in the 1-1/4in size. We can still get 1-1/4in webbing from a few of our suppliers, if there was a definite interest shown for this. I would be happy to go to bat for this, but I would need to know if there is a real interest for it, and if there is, would you prefer Heavyweight Polypro or Flat Nylon. My guess would be that black would be the most popular color to start with. I know that we could get a few hardware items in 1-1/4in and I believe we can get all the items that are in the sling at 1-1/4in, unfortunately I am positive that the H&K snaps (which have become very popular with the sling makers) are only available in 1in. I got tired of looking through this thread to find my answer. What is the best material to make these slings (Poly pro light vs. heavy or flat nylon)? I will be making a few single point slings using an hk hook with 1-1.5" webbing for about 3" then a side release buckle. The main sling will be either 1.5 or 2" for over my shoulder. Most likely I will use olive of some color like it. I am thinking the poly is the stuff but not sure if the heavy or the light is the correct choice. Thanks, Ghilly |
First off, I have never seen an HK snap any other size than 1". if you know where to get 1-1/2" HK snaps then by all means let me know. We could sell them by the truck load. As far as the webbing, I have found that the majority of the people that buy from us get the flat nylon webbing (FNW). My opinion is that the heavyweight polypro (HWP) is optimal for a sling for the following reasons: HWP doesn't stretch FNW does under heavy loads (this probably will never be a factor under this application); the UV resistance of HWP is comparable to FNW; HWP is more resistant to chemicals and oils then FWP is; HWP sheds water faster then FNW; FNW will hold odors more prevalently then HWP; HWP has less of a gloss then FNW; HWP is not as strong as FNW, but with a 900# test strength it will be quite strong enough; and finally HWP costs less then FNW. The only things that FNW have over HWP for a gun sling are it is more abrasion resistant and tends to be marginally thicker. In either case Strapworks.com has a great selection for you. Can you imagine the soccer moms that would freak when they saw that on the web site?  I really don't think a kit is necessary given ggllggll's excellent directions. Besides, ordering a la carte gives you the ability to make personal modifications. For example, I decided to go with a cam lock/fastex combination instead of 2 fastex buckles. (See page 11.) ETA: On the other hand, posting the part numbers associated with the master list in this thread may be helpful. |
| I've just finished reading all 15 pages of this post and I want to say a big THANK YOU! to GGLLGGLL for getting this whole thing started! I've already sent in my order to Strapworks, and am waiting delivery. I have many rifles sitting alone and lonely for the company of a good sling. Looking forward to trying my had with all of this. |
Though we have no plans as of yet to make bundled packages of parts for any of our industries, we have been thinking of making industry specific pages for easier navigation (i.e. Military/ Tactical, Pet/ Horse, Rafting/ Aquatic Sports, Motorcycle/ ATV, etc.). These pages will not only have our products, but links of some of our customers that we make products for. It is all on the table, but not there yet. Any input would be nice. But as far as a bundled package of product, I have a folder at my desk with the designs. So I can pull them out whenever someone has questions. Hi Dave, First of all let me say thanks for the great service. I am also desperately trying to locate a few select items in the 1 1/4". I believe all that you would really need to carry would be the following: 1 1/4" Heavy Duty Polypropylene Webbing (OD Green) 1 1/4" Heavy Duty Polypropylene Webbing (Black) 1 1/4" Plastic Loops 1 1/4" Plastic Slides Those would be the essential must haves. Nice to haves would be Side Release Buckles and Cam Buckles. But they are not necessary. I have been looking all over the internet trying to find even just one 1 1/4" plastic slide, and I can't find it. I am hoping you guys decide to offer these items. Thanks! |
I know that 1-1/4" webbing and hardware would be popular items for our tactical sling guys, but convincing the committee that it would be extremely advantagious is another matter. I have been approaching it this way: We have 1-1/4" lightweight black that we are offering at a very low price. It doesn't sell for two main reasons, we don't have it on our site, and we don't carry the hardware. If we did it would sell much better. It is understandable that not everyone will have the same taste. Making a sling isn't for everyone. If making your sling doesn't sit well with you, I strongly recomend getting one that is premade. like the ones found at GearSector.com. It is a great single point tactical sling made in the USA. | Due to popular demand I have found 1-1/4" plastic hardware in coyote tan, olive drab, and foliage green. Now that I got your hopes up, I still have to get the committee to agree to bring them in to stock. There is a 50 peice minimum from our manufacturer. which is not alot, but it would be more than what a single person would like to buy for a sling or two. I will keep you posted. I can also get the 1-1/4in HK snap hook but with the same minimums. |
