Cool gun! Just not for me. FYI currently guns with the special 3rd hole are costing more than twice that.

Barrel is incorrect also. MP between the FSB legs is not correct for 1964.

The whole upper is from some other gun.

I have everything to fix that gun that I picked up on a rack at a gunshow

Too bad it got molested

Maybe they took the parts off it and sold them to me

The rear sling loop is bare metal, while the front one is plastic coated.

I wonder if it has the Edgewater buffer, & original receiver extension tube.

Is the charging handle correct? Not saying it isn't, I just don't know when they were changed in production.

Seems very odd for so many parts to have been changed on this rifle given its "supposed" history, could be worth the money if it were actually all original

This auction is for a used, fired several hundred rounds by the original owner, the Vice President of Engineering at Colt 1963-66, serial number SP00004.It is of the earliest design, has factory letter dated 10-2006.Although the gun has been fired, it exhibits the original finish, earliest designs of the famous M16 rifle, including old prong flash hider, bayonet lug, triangular hand guards, no forward assist, rear sling swivel that was mounted with a roll pin and stock swivel, black canvas sling, original Colt marked factory sling,and what appears to be different stock material. The bolt is the original black finish, nor hard chrome as in today.The original owner mounted a factory bipod and there are marks where the finish was rubbed bright, just inder the front sight, and a scope was also mounted to the rifle carry handle during testing and firing.There are some handling marks and scratches in the plastic, very light patina on the safety lever and dust cover, and front section of the barrel.The reserve is $15,000.00. This rifle and those beginning with serial numbers 1 through 10 were reserved for employees of Colt Industries. FFL is required

All the single and double digit SP1's I have seen pics of appear to be built with later parts. I suspect they are all factory original, but are of later vintage then the three digit rifles.

Colt frequently runs serial numbers out of sequence.

I seriously think this thing was raped for parts...Late port door, no divots in any parts, looks like regular rifle buffer, regular AR BCG (looks like it has FA serrations), unmatching upper/lower, etc. Only some crazy retard would buy this.

I'd give him $400 for the stripped lower though

If it was made in 1965, how could it be SN #4? Does anyone remember when #18 sold on the EE for $7k? It had all the old parts on it.

ETA: Didnt SP1 production start in '63 or '64?
