I thought "well, I better get it and hang onto to it, because I will never see another one". Then less than a week later Kkrad on GB posted a 602 complete furniture set. So within a week or two I had acquired 2 of the 3 hardest parts. |

It was labeled as an M1 Garand sling. By the length and the look I determined it was the right one (at least I hope I made a good choice). I received notification earlier that it already has been shipped out to me today. I went through hundreds of eBay posted items yesterday looking for the correct sling.https://i.imgur.com/bgZkM0s.jpg For the record aka, that sling is not a 602 sling. Yes it certainly would/could have been used on a 602. There was no "602" sling. The cotton canvas slings are "Sling,Small Arms, M1" and later as "Sling, Gun, M1". The 1st ones came out in WW2 to replace the M1907 leather slings. The M1 does not mean M1 Garand, it's just the nomenclature for the sling. See pic bellow. With that said, those metal tab marked slings were made for a year and a half. I forget Bill Ricca's info but it was either the full year 1963 and half a year 1964, or visa versa. They are not specific to the 602. I used to have pics saved but lost in a puter crash of wrapped M1 slings going back to the 1950s all with the same nomenclature, and even the late (post 1969) "seatbelt" M1 slings have the same info on the packages even tho they were made from a nylon (Rayon?) material. ONLY the 601 had a “specific” sling. You can put a WWII dated Garand sling on a 602 rifle, and it won’t be “incorrect” because it COULD have been utilized on a 602. That being said, the metal tab marked slings were made in the same time frame as the 602’s, so they go very well with a 602. |

You are right, what we say here helps everyone down the line. I should have said I found a sling for my 602. The comment on the Garand pertained to the eBay ad. Garand slings like my own is for all functional purposes the same.

The only case where a specific mag would be "issued" with a rifle is most likely the early 601s and waffles , Colt wanted to be the "sole" supplier of the "package deal" that included the waffles. After that soldier walks into the arms room, gets issued a rifle, the armorer would issue the rifle and whatever mags were "on the shelf" so to speak. World Bayonets - Contract Summary World Bayonets ID Guide https://i.imgur.com/ePnvaOM.jpg Do y'all think a Milpar was produced too late to be on this rifle? I know we discussed this a little before, but I can't seem to find that much information on production dates. The only source for a timeline I have found is on worldbayonets.com. |

The only person who I would believe 110% is Bill Ricca who collected actual copies of contracts is no longer with us. That said, the original owner of SP1 118x manufactured on Nov. 16, 1964 and sent to his LGS on Nov. 20, 1964 added a NOS Milpar bayonet at the time he received the rifle. |

That is a good reference. I'm not sure how correct the worldbayonet.com post is. Maybe a better way to look at it is when did they quit producing the Colt's 62082 Armalite bayonet? Has anyone seen a 602 with a Colt 62082 bayonet on it? There is something that feels wrong about a Colt 62082 bayonet on a 602, almost like putting 601 furniture on a 602. |

I missed one last month that was in really good condition that came with 2 rubber covered canvas magazine pouches. It went for $250. Wasn't sure how much the pouches were worth. Let me know if I should have bought them. I don't know much about the pouches. The 2 on GB right now are in a definitely more used condition. They have been listed for well more than a month. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1020999230 |

There are three varieties of pouches if you want to collect them - non rubberized, slightly rubberized, and heavily rubberized. I have found the non-rubberized variety the hardest to find, and the heavily rubberized variety the easiest to find. |

I’m assuming the differences also had a time period for production of pouches, right? Which one’s would be correct for 601’s, 602’s, and so on? |

I’m sure that they are all correct for the 601/602. My best guess is that the non-rubberized version came first, and it was discovered that they were rotting in the jungle environment. Then they progressed to the partially rubberized variety, followed by the full rubberized variety. |
| Just to add to your knowledge base. M16 refers to one pouch being "none rubberized" and that is correct, however those pouches are "impregnated" with something. Similar to GI tents. |
