Lol, I had no desire to get a pencil barrel until I started poking my nose in that thread.

BTW, the Aimpoint 9000 arrived, doesn't look horrendous, but I might go look for a cheap 5000 or even 3000.

These look great! I just picked up a 5000 and had to pay just over $600 for it so cheap is relative and maybe you can find it for a better price but I wanted to let ya know. I picked up my 3000 for a couple hundred less than that, I think just under $400 IIRC. I've seen both of those models really fluctuate in selling prices.

$600 usd for an Aimpoint 5000?  Lol, screw it, I'm going to stick with the incorrect 9000.

$600 USD is almost $1,000 Canadian pesos.

He’s not bullshiting you either.  Everyone I bid on eBay went over $500usd. $500 being my max bid I never came close.

I put up a Colt A2 upper with a pencil barrel in EE, if anyone is looking for one.

Swapped out the 16" super heavy barrel on my po-surp A2 for a 14.5 pinned m4 profile barrel. Not loving the muzzle device but the barrel was cheap and so am I. Muuuuch better now.

XM4 build on a Colt M4 Carbine marked lower, 14.5" barrel pinned and welded with an Adco spacer to get just a hair over 16"

Tritium in the Trijicon Reflex is dim... not sure if I can get it refurbished or not.

Have normal stock now. Still looking for proper A2 barrel without M4 feed ramps, non-neutered front sight base, and olive drab Vietnam-era nylon sling. Or upgrade to a Colt SP1 if I could ever find one for trade.

I've been in the same hunt as you and with the prices dropping to much I thought about cutting bait and just buying a complete for $975. Selling my upper and moving on. I finally managed to trade for an SP1. 750,000 serial range and gave a Rem 870 shotgun with extras and a Colt base 6920 I had laying around. It's not quite collector grade but it's minty. I'll have to post a pic...

Keep looking and you'll find an SP1 to trade for!

@Infidel4life11 - Nice stick! How do you like that grip? Looks like one of the BCM, right?

The BCM mod 3 is my all time favorite.  I've had it on everything, I'd rather not run any other grip but correctness gets in the way sometimes.

standard grey 5.56 NATO 1/7 twist chrome-lined M16A2 Government Profile barrel with rifle feed ramps, a standard A2 front sight post with bayonet lug, and a standard A2 flash hider.

Proper A2, not PSA with M4 feed ramps.

Swapped to a waffle stock for Offhand shooting. Swapped the windage screw and hooded aperture out of the Bushmaster NM sight for an Armalite NM. Flippable and a little bit bigger aps - little more versatile.

Judging by the hash marks, it looks like I went from 0.5 MOA to 0.1 MIL clicks, but an impropmtu box test showed it still 0.5 MOA.

You need to swap that barrel for the brownells A1 profile 1/7 and see just how light you can get it.

Still looking for a freaking BLACK A2 upper, whole upper, no kits - ain't got time to build none.

[Last Edit: Solo_] [#42]
Good things come to those who (proactively) wait: finally. My friend Mike here at ARFCOM sold me this mint, extremely nice pre-ban Bushmaster upper (when Bushmaster was Bushmaster, in Maine). It lacks the bayonet lug (for now) and it does have a heavy barrel; but I think I am going to keep the barrel in; I don't have a HB in my collection, so that will be useful too, apart from the A2 looks.

Just need to find an appropriate A2 front post piece and call it a day.
Lower is my beloved NDS A2 onto which used to sit - and sits still every now and then - my Colt A4 original upper. Collection complete?

You'll forgive my adding posts after posts - but hopefully, it can be appreciated that the pictures (and the rifles) are decent.

I am going to take more pictures of these rifles; me being in my 50s, I grew up watching movies with these rifles in them. The heroes I loved, had these. So did the grunts.

A sign of age, indeed:

I wish I did. That was my most difficult piece to find for my 2 BHD clones. And truthfully I'm only happy with 1 of the lights. I'll get a pic of my extras and see if any are what you're looking for. I've also fought a couple "bay" wars to get some but I paid more than I'd hoped.

Don't know about you guys but as for me, I am looking constantly at getting better (and inspiring with pictures as well as being inspired by them).
So, I did go ahead and changed the pistol grip of this newer project A2 (the black one shown above) with a more appropriate one.
The one on there in the previous pictures was the contemporary Colt one - real, authentic Colt as seen on current Colt M4s.
But the A2s had different ones on them; just ever so slightly, but you can still tell; the protuberances for the finger grooves, for example, were different on them.
On and for A2s, I like them in fact the way I got them on now on both rifles; these are the authentic Colt ones from the 1980s and the 1990s.

A2 pistol grips nowadays can look pretty shitty with all the subproduction you see around. The other Colt clone A2 (the grey one) already had a Colt A2 grip from the 1980s.
PS this newer Colt A2 grip (also from the 1980s, but un-issued) was purchased at the Specialized Armament Warehouse of which I have been a fan of.
