I got one too. I just have to figure out if I want to put a carry handle on it or go with a fold down in case of scopeage.

Just some more pics of my A4.

I am curious as to what type of groups you all are seeing out of your A4's? The best I have been able to muster so far is 1"  5 round group with 77gr SMK and 24gr Varget and 75gr Hornady with 24gr of H4895. I think it can do better but right now I'm blaming it on me and the trigger. I have experimented with BH 75gr Hornady HP match and handloaded 77gr Nosler Custom Competition and 23 gr of Varget with pretty much the same results.

i use 24 grains of varget. with same bullet. I get about  1 inch at 100  if I out it on  a match  CR6724 lower with that trigger.
barrel is from a colt M16A2    1/7 twist etc etc I use a TAO1B ACOG

Here's my attempt.
MI rails instead of KAC mainly because I was looking for a budget free float.
This one is very accurate and I shoot off a bipod or sandbags alot and didn't want varying p.o.i.
Although damn those hanguards are wide.

Got mine just about ready. Got a 20" BCM upper, Spikes Lower from the Group buy, RRA lpk and A2 stock from Pkfirearms. KAC M5 from EE here and a Matech Buis from the EE as well.

Only think is optics. I have a Nib TA11 otw which I got an outstanding price on I couldnt pass up. So would it be sacrilege to use that model or trade it for a "correct" one. I hear nothing but good things about the TA11.

Use what ever is best for you.  Just because the mil uses something doesn't make it the best choice.  Often for the people outside the mil, other choices are better.

My 1.5 cents:

I mounted a TA11 on my M16A4 clone just to test the concept and find the FSB's shadow annoys the ever living shit outta me.  Add a little stress and you don't even notice the FSB....but I'm not always under stress.  If I recall correctly I never had that problem with a TA31.  Not sure if that extra 0.5X makes a difference or if it has something to do with barrel length, etc.  Dunno.  All I know with 110% certainty is that the TA11 will never sit atop my 20" rifle.  Then again, FSB's and ACOG's have always been a square peg / round hole issue for me.  Also, I believe the TA11 was intended for the M16A2, no?

Since I'm now a die hard fan of the TA11, I'd never opt for a TA31 anyway on account of the 1.5" eye relief...so any future scoping adventures for my M16A4 clone would involve a variable scope....once I remove the FSB all together.

I still don't understand how or why the military felt the TA31 made a great choice over the TA11.  Especially considering the M16A4 sits in front of an A2 buttstock!    Unless you're in the prone position, it's an awkward set up.  At least I think so.  YMMV.

For now, my clone is plenty entertaining with a removable carry handle.  My 16" AR is where I stuff all my BRD mojo.  I can't wait for my FA556-212 to get here.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to check it out and see what its like mounted before I make a decision. Cant afford 2 Acogs right now . So I might throw the TA11 on my BCM Middy w/DD rail system . No fsb to worry about on that one. Maybe grab an Aimpoint for the 20" or put carry handle on it. .

Does anyone have a picture looking through the ACOG? I'm trying to figure out if the FSB will drive me nuts or not.

ETA: to the poster below me, thanks for the input. I just don't want to drop a grand on some glass and hate it. The killer is I have a welded muzzle brake (live in CT - still have a form of the ban), so to remove the FSB and put a flip up on would be a PITA from what I understand. Guess I gotta find someone who has one and just find out for myself.

Good pic - its noticeable right now but not as bad as I thought. Besides, when shooting I notice a lot less. Slack in the trigger - what slack? etc

There is a shadow from the FSB. When I'm goofing around just looking through the optic it is quite noticeable, but when Im actually firing the rifle I never notice it. I thought it would bother me when I first got it but it ended up not being an issue. I wouldn't give it a second thought if I were you. Just my opinion.

Not the best pic, but gives you an idea.

It turned out nice, and I'm very happy with it.

Nice to see the BCM uppers are finally available now.

I need to take a new picture of my A4 clone, it will be a while before I can get the rail though.

The Corps. started issuing Flight Suits to help in combating flash burns from IEDs, etc.  That was after I EAS'd though and I believe that the "combat shirt" or whatever it is called is now used most often.  Hell, I wore tri-colors over there, it's amazing how many "new" uniforms the Corps. has used in Iraq since the invasion.

Is the way the carry handle is mounted a common practice? It seems with the prevalence of folding BUIS that there is no need for lugging around the carry handle for back-up purposes.

Tango Down.  Looks more like a TA11 instead of a TA31.  Note the left side ejection port.  Lack of a finger bump on the grip.

I knew I saw it before.  Do an image search for M16A4.
