I've read/heard from a couple of sources that the M16A4 PIP or M16A5 has been canned and it was decided to just give the infantry M4s.
But I am not in any more, I have no clue what goes on in the heads of the higher ups. |

View Quote You have heard correctly the A4PIP was put on hold because of cost benefit analysis and the fact the Marine Corps has over 80k M4s it can redistribute to cover all infantry and infantry like battalions in the force |

Compact seems to be the way things have been heading for a while in all variants of the m16/m4 family. Not to mention funds... |

This ugly ass "A5" was vltor's entrant in the PIP. Looks like they didn't make it very far due to good reason. It looks like shit, any knuckle dragger would probably break that stock on the first TIC it sees, and Marines + keymod = no go. |

Just scored a brand new Sabre A4 barrel at the gun show.

Yes - I did pull it from the weapons rack. :) Though they are correct as I should have taken the few seconds to return the carry handle to it's proper position before snapping that photo.
Attached File When I finish building it's final resting place (cage assembly in the gun room), I'll put up some proper pics :D |

I like the woodpile pics. I bet it was fun shooting that far out. Is your trigger real stiff?

With that setup, the ability to use a bayonet would be lost.

Assuming you use a DD LITE 14.0, the hardest part to cut would be milling out the holes to drive the FSB pins in. Dimensionally though, you could remove more material up front and create enough space to allow use of the bayonet lug.
At that point, you're really just getting the benefit out of the R and L rails on either side of the FSB. Again, the point of which is rendered unnecessary with mounts such as the Dropwing. |

Love it. I have a Match Target lower also, I was going to do what you have, but did a Block 1 instead.
Nice Rifle |

If you use an original length thorntail, and you mount it all the way forward on the side of the M5, it will clear the launcher mounts / cut outs, and put a standard sized scout far enough forward that it clears the FSB. Of course you'll need a tapeswitch to reach that far.
I'll see if I can find the pictures....
