I am awaiting my M5 RAS and barrel to arrive. Everything else except the Acog is ready. Going to have to wait on that.

Here is a pic of my son, a newly minted Marine, taken during grass week at Parris Island. He is currently at Camp Geiger for MCT.

Hope you'll get what you want soon.
Meanwhile, I am very impressed by the fact that your son is serving in the Marines.

Well done.

Very nice!!!!  You must've taught him to shoot.  1/2 the time I see military guys they have their finger so deep in there you'd think the trigger is on the 2nd joint of their finger........  Maybe that's how their taught??

I bet you are proud!!!  Give him a big "thanks for serving" from us here.

Thanks, yep we are proud of him and I will pass on your thanks. Yea, I taught him. We spent alot of time shooting the last couple of years.

His PMI-Primary Marksmanship Instructor asked him about it. He was happy that someone had actually spent some time at the range before coming to boot.

His PMI is a big time 3 gunner and Service Rifle competitor.

The boy was pissed that he missed Expert by 2 points. His rifle had 2 FTF on the Table 2 firing which is close range, moving targets. It ended up costing him several points on the movers.

I'm  having a hard time finding them.

Those dang boot camp guns.  It seems like a miracle they still shoot with how much they clean them and beat on them.

He had to beat the takedown pins out with the cleaning rod because the pins were so rusted. He wasn't happy with his rifle but he said there were worst ones in the platoon.

Is the only difference between the TA31F and the TA31RCO-A4CP is the reticle with the ranging marks on the right and left?

I see from the original post that the TA31F was used at one time by the Marines, until the TA31RCO-A4CP came along.

The BDC stadia lines are different.  The RCO-A4 is calibrated for M855 out of a 20" barrel.  The 31F is for a 16" barrel.  You can use either optic, but if you mismatch the BDC and barrel length, then you will have to figure out at what distances the holdovers would actually correspond to.

This, the pic you posted, the recruit(now PFC ) has a BFG Vickers VCAS with the polymer hardware and the quick adjuster.  I have that exact sling on my A4 mutt.  Brief Tangent: what's his MOS?

When I went to boot camp at Parris Island just shy of 40 years ago, we used the OD nylon M14 slings on our M16A1s. They worked fairly well.

Funny you should say that, that's what he said in a letter..."If I thought they would let me, I would just have send that one that is on your M1A Socom."

Which is a od canvas M14 sling.

Does the correct barrel profile include the .700”x.700” step at the muzzle? I have seen several factory colts without it, but a quick internet search shows that it is present on rifles in action.

Not sure if I should play here, but here goes:

Still need a forward assist (it's a Colt Expanse upper from my spare parts box) and probably a lot of other things to qualify for clone status.  I actually haven't decided which direction to go on this.  I was originally going to build another C7A2 clone, but I also wanted an M16A4 clone so it's sort of a mutt of both for now.

They do have a good price on it. A local shop quoted me about the same as them and I can get it elsewhere with current sale & coupon code for even less. The local shop didnt have a red chevrons but they did have a green 4x chevron and a ta01nsn and both are beautiful so im pretty sure Id like an RCO on the m16a4

I had found a couple of Acogs online that were on sale as well as a few here that were good prices, but they were not the correct Acog. Two Sundays ago I went out to a buddys house to do some rifle shooting. After getting it zeroed, I was hitting a half size ipsec style steel target at 400 yards in a 8 to 12 mile an hour crosswind with it.

I was using 62 grain m855 and the BDC was just about dead on.

Quite a few people including myself have used Windham weaponry barrels even though they have non F marked sight towers. They are good shooting barrels. Ive seen a couple Colt barrel assemblies pulled from new ar15a4`s pop up for sale.

Well...I was wanting to do it on a budget as much as I could, because I knew I was going to spend the bulk of my money on the correct Acog for it.

Brownell's had High Standard 1/7 barrels with a F marked FSB on sale for $150. The con was that it has no delta ring assembly, no front sight, no sling swivel and no flash hider. It is chrome lined and had a triangle handguard cap on it, which does not matter for the M5 RAS, you can use either the round or the triangle.

It's marketed as a Service Rifle competition barrel. I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot and see. I had the rest of the parts needed in a parts box to finish it out. If I was not happy with it, Brownell's has the no BS return policy, I'll send it back and get something else.

So far I have been happy with it. I was hitting a 60% size ar500 IPSC target at 400 yards with it, on a windy day with the wind gusting between 8-12mph.
