Okay, so upon doing like 2 seconds of research, I've determined that it is .062. It's an unmodified 14.5 colt. For whatever reason I was under the impression they came from the factory at .07. I didn't know they had to open them up further for the CQBR, I just thought DD opened them up for more reliability with different ammo. Just a misunderstanding on my part. I'm not cutting this one down anyway, so in any case I think I'm good at .062.

Yeah Colt drills the 14.5 ports at .062", and CRANE (or ADCO for us) chops down the 14.5 and opens the port to .070"

I'm a fan of both bbl/port sizes.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense. I was thinking that was a chopped barrel that was opened to .070. DD's problem was they didn't just open to Crane spec .070, they decided to go all the way to .080-.083. Glad they wised up and stopped that silliness.

Unfortunately, Noveske does the same thing with their FN made 10.5" N4 barrels. I haven't measured mine, but I'm relatively certain it's .080+ based on it using a Sprinco Red/H3 and still having way more recoil than my DD 10.3 .070 running an H3 and Colt carbine spring. Thinking about getting an .070 insert to tone it down a bit until it's time to replace it with a proper 10.3 :\.

There is an insert??  Tell me more.  I have the Red/H3 combo in my DD, and it works okay.  I figured I would put an SLR block on there, if I was going to pull the block, but an inserts sounds intriguing.

Yep... you just tap the LPG or FSB and screw in the port size you want. It can be purchased alone or with a kit to tap the gas block. Sounds pretty handy and only about $35 for an FSB; I'm thinking about giving it a try.

I don't think they make the Govnah anymore right? I sold mine because it didn't fit under the RIS II that well. It made contact. They did make RIS II compatible blocks, but I don't think they exist anymore.

Correct. Dudes in this thread were shaving down the Govnah a bit to make clearance with the RIS II. But yeah they stopped making them years back. That was the hot one in this thread when I got here tho because back then it was you either had a Colt with .070" port, or DD with .082" port

I guess since we are talking about gas ports here's some info from my personal experience.

had a .093 ported barrel, installed brt .070 insert. Gun ran sweet with h2 and standard spring but short strokes fairly often with m193 when running h3 unsuppressed.

gun had massive leak at the gas port, bad enough to make your thumb Black after 1 mag. so maybe that attributed to the short stroking.

now running colt .070 with h3 and it's all good unsuppresed and actually shoots softer than my kac cqb mod 2.

I have 3 of the Seekins, now.  The Govnah wasn't going to fit

90% suppressed, as a guess.  Any reduction, even at a fixed .070 would be beneficial to the beating it is taking now.

I had a feeling that it had a colt finish.
But until we saw that roll mark......

I'll give it to you, since it's a colt!  Your setup is dead on accurate.  It's a tank, but it looks awesome man.
Now get out there and alter the color on that RC with some mag dumps

The dummy cord is running underneath the front sight though.

Ok, I know this isn't the refinishing forum, but it's mk18 related. I have a gen 1 lmt sopmod that was painted when I purchased it. I want it to in its original black color to go on my mod 0. Will citristip work fine fine without hurting the polymer? The directions do not list plastics for stripping. Secondly, for anyone that may have already done this, if it does work, does it leave the stock altered in any way I.e. Will the stock have a whitish residue rift on it afterwards?
Than you

I'd try it on something like a rail cover or grip and see if it affects plastic. I don't think it does, but I can't quite remember.

I used citristrip on my Sopmod stock and I wasn't a huge fan of the way it worked.  It left an orange residue in the tight crevices.  I actually used Goof Off and that worked really well.  It does really dry out the plastic, so I wiped mine down with CLP afterwards to darken up the plastic.

Strip it well then respray it black. I did that to a Gen 1 and it came out perfect. Paint removers make everything “dry”, so if you don’t respect it black you can use oil. I’ve used citristrip and acetone.

Thanks for all the responses. I did try it on a Kac rail panel and it worked well but left it a little white. I think I'm gonna try a few of the above options in little spots and see what I like most. If they all look the same I'll prob use the citristip, then re-spray it black. I figured it's all been tried before here, so thanks for the first hand accounts. Btw, used citristip for the first time the other day (on a Cerakoted rail) and it was like magic. I could not believe how well that shit works! I'm sold.

^Awesome pic man! Nice rifle and signed poster.

I just finished watching The Pacific again today.  I finished reading With the Old Breed last week so I wanted to see how well it matched up to it.
It is such a difficult series to watch, especially episode 9; but the series has nothing on Sledges memoirs.
Sad that pacific theatre gets such less recognition.

Question to all, H2 fine for reliability or do I need an H3 unsuppressed? I'm going to run the nt4 tomorrow but won't be once I leave the range so

It is, that actually makes sense. I've had an H1 for years and forgot about NV. I need the M2, but buying the woman a ring today kinda is making that difficult , least I get to get a gun to give with it

And yea, the SU is a POS, but #clonecorrect, I'd LOVE an FDE 553 for it, but the T1 is a great run for the time being.

Oh alright yeah its good to go. After I bought my first EOTech I vowed to never buy another non NV compatible optic again and haven't, and they all match what yours is doing. Essentially they're super dim settings, anything bright enough to be seen by eye could hurt your tubes, especially if not auto gated. But anyways I digress. Completely normal for a NV compatible optic.

Congrats on the ring! Sounds like we both screwed now.

I've got to get a PVS14 to figure this shit out , I'm a NV total newb. My NF has NV only side to the dial so that threw me off and the NV button on the eotech was there, brain card on my part

And I've found a winner I'm thinking, to me to buy extra KAC Mre's today when I was gonna be sparing, so life isn't all bad

Question to all, H2 fine for reliability or do I need an H3 unsuppressed? I'm going to run the nt4 tomorrow but won't be once I leave the range so

H2 should be fine unless you've got the $2 whore gas port.

We all gotta start somewhere. It's a whole nother realm of the gun world in itself. A whole lot of terms and data to learn there. And a whole lot of money to spend. Took a lot of research on my part to fully understand everything, such as how tubes work. Which is pretty crazy in itself, and how it amplifies light.

Anyways, H2 will be perfect if your Colt bbl has the .070" port. If it wasn't opened up and is .062" worst case is you'd need an H

ETA I just asked my wife if she had ever seen it, turns out she stowed it away for me.

I would jump right into it tonight man!
Best book I ever read by far, period.
This book should be required reading for every American in high school.
It's a very detailed first hand account written by a very smart guy who was a private fighting on the front lines of the two toughest islands in the pacific.  It's up to debate but the two islands he was on are probably the most brutal combat in modern history.  You get a good image of it through his account, and you realize how scared these guys were and how tough they really had it.

The show doesn't do his account anywhere near the justice it deserves and you don't ever get the feelings he felt through it like the book gives you.
