I do like how simple Augee's is too.  That one is 3rd.  So there you have it.  The heirarchy of Mk18's / CQBR's from the Gospel of JJ.   There are a ton of sweet guns in there though and I'm probably forgetting some.

I love you, too.

I think I'm finally getting close to finalizing the setup on the shorty, I did move the sling mount forward after that photo, I like it better at the front of the handguard. I have been thinking about going to irons on it for a while, until I get around to buying an Elcan, some time.

I think it just reminds me of that one too.  Even though yours has the small aimpoint.

Several ways you can determine what size the font is:   Print any of those pics out on paper and then measure something that is of a known dimension.  For example, the circle around the rampant pony is .625.....print a picture out and measure the circle. If it is too large or too small, resize the picture and reprint.  Once you have the circle at .625 you can measure any other "item" and get an accurate size of said item.
or............does your engraver have Auto-Cad?....import the picture and measure the circle........resize as necessary and then he can measure the font.

Yeah, that's Kyle Defoor, I had that gun sort of in mind when I first put together mine. Needless to say, I  took a bit of a divergent course.

That was the first full rifle I had painted. I'm pretty happy with the results even though I couldn't quite find the perfect color of the lighter digital pattern. Base color seem to be exact - Aervoe urban tan. I was actually more hesitant about painting the suppressor but most of the original paint burned off making it an easier choice.

Dicking around with mine. As much as I hate the looks of the grippod, I love it for stationary shooting. Also, I'll be ordering the CQD mounts soon. I don't know if I can justify the price for KAC sights though... at least not at the moment.

What's that? I don't know who 01 is.

I did. I really did like the NSN, it's just not for me. If I ever get into another 'COG, it'll be a TA31.

I know damn well how much I love EOTechs tho. This will be my 4th.

I should probably add that he's throwing in cash too, before hobo sees this and starts mumbling and jumbling about how I "should not have made this life-ending decision"

I'll trade you my 14.5" upper and the M4S on it for the EXPS and your FSP upper.

ETA: I would consider trading this .300 barrel/upper I have, if you're seriously on the market for an upper.

Meh, I'm trying to collect them all with optics/batteries, so I doubt I will get rid of it. At least the major, commonly available batteries.
I keep hoping someone releases a more reasonably priced AA scope similar to the VCOG.

I'd just collect the optics that are actually reliable.

In regards to the VCOG, that is by far my favorite all-around optic. You may eventually find a different, more affordable AA variable optic, but it will surely not be worthy of even sharing the same sentence with a VCOG.

ETA - and I know you really want an Elcan, but if you get the cash together, do yourself the favor and check out the VCOG in person as well before making a purchase. The Elcan has insane glass, and is easily the sickest looking optic around, but everytime I use my Elcan, I find myself thinking about my VCOG.

LMAO. Show me the broken T1s...

ETA - Everything breaks. I just find it funny that people still want to argue the RDS reliability thing. Everytime I speak with any trainer about the optics he sees go down the most...it's always the same story. And it's always far from just battery related as well.

Should I now quote the owner of Henderson Defense about EOTechs on his range from his thread?

ETA2 - Before I take a look at asmig's family pic again, and then head off for another shower, I'll leave you with this:

I agree we see way more broken EOTechs than Aimpoints in here, but there's also hardly any T1's in use as they're not part of the SOPMOD program or issued to conventional forces, so it's not really a good way to judge what's more likely to fail in my opinion, although I'd still say EOTech would be more likely to fail than a T1.

Like you said, everything breaks. If T1's were widely issued like 553/EXPS, I bet I'd be able to find a pic though.

Meh, to be honest, I was talking a bit with Milspec about just giving a magnifier a shot on my CQBR. I mostly want some magnification to make IDing targets easier, and the Elcan seems like a lot of $ for that purpose. I like Elcans, but I don't know if I like them enough to spend $1600+ on one.

Anyway, I'm mostly optics shopping for my other rifle, so I'm not constrained by clone-correctness, which is nice. I can't say I'm a fan of the VCOG's reticle choices, though, even though I love the AA battery capability. I need a mildot reticle, for the purpose I have in mind, rather than a BDC for the 14.5.

I don't know, man. T1s are stupidly durable. There's a few videos of them being tossed out of choppers and shit. I doubt there's a more durable/reliable optic on the market. As common as they are, I doubt the lack of photos of broken T1s is just because they're rare. I've seen a lot more EOTechs in general fail in military use than Aimpoints, however, regardless.

you have to physically break other optics, eotechs break just sitting on the shelf.

As I've posted here before- I had two CompM4s do exactly this. Brand new right out the box and not function. I wasn't the only armorer that had that problem either, even just in my battalion.

I've also had my share of EOTechs go down.

Nothing is immune.  Use what you like.

i would assume they check them all?? but theres a good chance they never worked at all. what about an aimpoint that had been previously working, going bad while just sitting there?

We had some broken M2s, but they had all evidently seen some HARD use.

We turned those in right after I got to my line unit and got the M4s.

I did use an M2 briefly and it had the most oblong dot I have ever seen in an AP.

We also had TA31s during that time. No issues with them.

I'm not defending any one brand over another; they all break eventually if you use them hard enough for long enough (or issue them to joes).

Asmig - great builds. Probably going to pick up another RIS II upper because of you.

Hobo - have you looked at the Accupoints much? The 1-4 BAC may have turned into my favorite all around optic. Even as a true 1x it's great. I have three Accupoints now. Can't remember all of the reticle options though.

Posted my Noveske CQBR upper with RIS II in the EE, might part it out, or trade for optics. Kinda bored with cloning, I have a Colt based M4A1 upper, DD 10.3 barrel with .070 western sport gas port and MK12 gas block I'll probably list later.

I know they are. His name is Larry Vickers, and it was a DD torture test vid.

In regard to racks of broken EOTech's in mil arms rooms, it is absolutely because T1's aren't issued that you don't find any pics of broken T1's in arms rooms. Anybody that thinks any optic is unbreakable is a fucking retard.

And I can't help but lose it when I see somebody talking shit about optics that's never even owned an optic period.

Everything breaks! Dangerdan managed to break 2 fucking ACOGs for fucks sake, and people the a T1 is indestructible? My God.
