I fired a few suppressed rounds through my CQBR clone with a raptor installed. My impression: It worked really well...maybe just as well or better than my PRI GB. I can't say this is a fact, because I'm just a dummie, but it was the impression I got. That raptor is a legit piece of gear, and certainly clone correct after CD's post

EDIT for ownage:

Nice use of the vert grip.  You will have to adjust your grip a little if you ever decide to finish your build out with a PEQ

Yes.  IIRC, that's how they get the illuminator civi safe.  The focus is epoxied.

I have a new production one (less than month old) and its fixed, just as the one that was a year or so old that I had.

Lol, given the PM I recieved from you, I know exactly what you're trying to do,....and I like it.

These guns belong to a SF Natural Guard ODA, so some items are SOCOM issued and others Guard procured.

Before the came out people wanted to jailbreak the illuminator to make them adjustable. Haven't seen anyone willing to post one that's been done.

Yeah, I have.  I can get new, full power units, though.  So, I rarely pay attention to the used market.

Those LA-5's tho...
I agree with a previous poster(s) that the Raptors are a bit peculiar (for suppressed)... but not as much as the external IR filters on the WMX's.

Well I just gave up on AU and cancelled my SOCOM RC order. Ended up buying the RC2 from Silencer Shop.

The RC2 is exactly the same as the RC for the mounts correct? So I will be able to use a 3 prong or 4 prong with it?

Yeah, I know the ATPIAL-C rides a little lower, but with my old setup using the DBAL-I², I was still able to sort of jerry rig a similar grip for myself.

Exhibit A:

</a>PSX_20150326_003355 " />

It's broken now, because the IR laser plug part of the switch came loose and broke in transit to the range a few months ago, so I decided the DBAL-I² will just go on my SPR build. I figure I'll dial it in to like 15 yards and it will give it a little bit of CQB range if ever needed. But basically what I did, was wittle down the sides of the Surefire dual pressure switch, like so:

</a>LrMobile0912-2015-0240673541378775952" />

...and then it fits nice and snug under the rail cover, and the DBAL, giving me almost the exact same grip as before, with the switches in all the right spots.

</a>LrMobile0912-2015-0259673380148428292 " />

Now I'm rocking the AFG on my DD upper, and this is the current, albeit light switch only, setup I have now. I'm just using the button on the back of the Surefire on the Colt upper for now.

</a>20151203_105427 " />

Still have to figure out a way to stop that wire from overheating, but on the plus side, I didn't have to cut down the switch in this iteration, I just had to cut the rail covers in certain spots.

Those aren't IR filters. For whatever reason they come with flip caps.

Yeah, that probably would have been faster, lol. I think when I started, I was worried I was going to cut into a wire or something, and I didn't know exactly what was on the inside of that switch, and where. So I basically just started farther out than I needed, and then just kept trying to fit it under/between the rail cover and DBAL, cutting away more and more until it fit snug.

Well it did up until the IR plug broke on it. Fuckin' thing wouldn't stay in for shit. The plug that came with it has a nice snap when you plug it in, and stays in much better. If I ever went back to this configuration, I'd probably just try and cut both wires and splice the new/better one on, and then wrap a rubber band or a zip tie on it so it doesn't come out on me.

Anyway, question; Do any of you guys running the 3 or 4p flash hiders have this problem on your RC? I mean, it's not so much a problem, because I really don't care if it get's scratched/dirty (who wants a brand new shiny gun, right?), but I was just wondering if the cera/duracoat is chipping off from the heat on anyone else's that is running strictly 3 or 4p flash hiders.

Just stopped by Palmetto State Armory on Fernandina road, they have two SF SOCOM Cans in FDE... 20% off until 12/19... Almost snagged one but with a possible move before the transfer is even over, I don't want to waste my money.

Also - have there been many pics with the PEQ15A? They look pretty similar to the DBAL I2...

Yes, mine is way worse than that. I'll shoot a photo of it when I get home. That said, it appears to be layered (I may be wrong) like multiple coats, and the outermost one flakes off, but is still DE underneath. I actually think it looks a little more flat since it did that, and it doesn't bother me at all.

Okay, I just thought I might be putting an excessive amount of abuse on that part of the suppressor with the breaks on. I mean, they do let out quite the fireball.

Youtube Screenshot gun 4" />

Also, either tomorrow, or sometime very soon is going to be the day I work up the balls to rattle can my lower and (probably) my black DD upper (no, I don't plan on spraying the FSP, lol). Any tips? I know I gotta get some degreaser, but what colors go well together, what should I remember to tape up that isn't obvious, etc. Also, what do you use to get this sort of finish:

Is it some sort of netting that you drape over?

Also, in my search for that finish, I found this. Looks pretty badass. Does anyone know what suppressor that is, and more importantly, what colors they are? lol

So this may sound stupid, but I tried this today when I painted the rifle pictured below...  I've painted a few rifles and stripped them as well.  Each time, there are always some bits that are hard to strip, in corners and grooves.  Today, I gave it a primer coat of black so if I strip it, it will be easier to get it looking clean (assuming that if I get most of it, the base residue will be black and thus harder to spot)...  CQBR/MK18 work in progress included so it's less blasphemous.

As far as tips, shake well, apply thin coats, use blue painters tape on anything you don't want painted, roll up a posterboard and shove it between your rail and barrel if you don't want paint on your barrel (easier with no FSP), use a laundry bag for mesh pattern, and make sure it isn't too humid - especially if you're using Aervoe in my experience.

I mean, it's not so much a problem, because I really don't care if it get's scratched/dirty (who wants a brand new shiny gun, right?), but I was just wondering if the cera/duracoat is chipping off from the heat on anyone else's that is running strictly 3 or 4p flash hiders.

Yeah, that probably would have been faster, lol. I think when I started, I was worried I was going to cut into a wire or something, and I didn't know exactly what was on the inside of that switch, and where. So I basically just started farther out than I needed, and then just kept trying to fit it under/between the rail cover and DBAL, cutting away more and more until it fit snug.

as long as it works.

Here's mine a couple of months ago. A lot more has chipped/burned off since.

From the look of it, just a laundry bag type of netting will do. Basically, spray a solid base coat (I start with a tan color) and then after that dries to the touch, lay a net over it, and hit it in spots or stripes with a darker color, in areas around the weapon. After that dries to the touch, move the net a bit, and hit it again with a lighter color. Alternate darker and lighter, overlapping areas so some of the background netting lines are dark, and some are light.

Here's the paint I used:

And, using a larger fishing net, got this result:

Also, as a matter of fact, if you notice on the SF Mini, the finish has flaked off, revealing a lighter and flatter tan color.

Also, TNW's advice on taping, light coats, etc. are spot on.

Okay, cool. Thanks guys. This is the upper and lower that will get the spray job.

PSX_20151120_180148 " />

Everything on it, except the grip, will be coated. That ACOG and RMR might be a little tricky. Also, I actually can't get that grip off at the moment. DD, in all their wisdom, put this bolt in on the grip.

AR-15com guns photo 4" />

I remember I had to cut off the original grip that it came with to get it off, but in all of MY wisdom, I decided it was a good idea to use the damn thing over again , and now I can't get the socket over it to back it out. So I'll probably just end up taping it up or just spraying over it.

Yeah, see, I don't know enough about airsoft to be able to tell the difference at just a glance, lol. Doesn't matter though, it's the paint colors that I thought looked nice. Looks like a really light tan with a little green in there. Maybe OD?

Which one? The top one or bottom one? The bottom one is not mine, just something I found on the internet, and it's an example of the pattern I was talking about. The top one is mine, however;

It's a full DD Mk18 (upper and lower), and I'm pretty sure some ACOG's have been seen on them, but I can't be sure. Did you want me to change that particular upper to match every SOCOM component (removing zeros on irons and ACOG/RMR) just so I can ask a question about how to tape up the ACOG that wouldn't even be in the picture anymore? I'm so sorry you had to look at a slightly different variation on the exact same gun. If you want to see a perfect Mk18 replica, go back X amount of pages until you find one, right click, "Save as". Done. Now you never have to visit this thread ever again.

Edit: Here, is this close enough for you, or do I need a full power LA5 and a full auto M16 lower to match your standards?

Nice. Make sure you tape up your brake, and that would be a perfect one to use a rolled up poster board under the rail on. If you don't like the result, citristrip works wonders. Is the can getting sprayed too?

Not 100% sure yet. I guess it depends on the colors I pick, but as of right now, probably not.

Not your fault. I saw your post and checked the website. I should have just called. I will give them a call tomorrow... Is it bad if I buy both? lol I'm considering it because I want to do a M4A1 clone and I hate switching suppressors back and fourth.

IR Cap... Forgot to put it back on. Build is progressing well. Geissele SSA is installed now. Still waiting on stamp. ~ 2  months into wait. Have a Colt 14.5 waiting to be cut down and a DD MK12 LPGB/ Colt Carbine tube and KAC NT4 waiting.

New case, Using my old Magpul MS3 Sling as a.... Pelican sling!
