I really like the "Recce" concept. It the NF 2.5-10x24 that I had didnt jive well with me and it absolutely sucked for low light shooting, of which I do a lot.

Here is my recce

My unintentional Recce. I started this build before finding this term and I'm pleased with how well it fits and that I'm not the only one who's a fan of this racey, precision look.

I went with the HCS RECCE. Even had him put it on a new complete KAC SR15 lower. Dry firing has impressed me with the KAC 2 stage match trigger. Feels as good as the G's I have had, although I have heard of some issues with durability long term. If I wear it out, I will replace with a G.

At any rate, the RECCE is sorted. My NF 2.5-10x32 showed up today, hoping the larger exit pupil will help with forgiveness at higher powers. Definitely built like a tank, turrets, as seems to be the norm on the NF's I have owned, are a bit mushy, but serviceable. I think this may be my favorite compact scope overall.

My LT104 mount should be here tomorrow and I will assemble it and post some pics. Going to the range this weekend to run some MK262 through it. Then I will attempt to load my own version, assuming it shoots it well.

This has been a 2 year process and still not near 100% complete.  Just received the BCM upper yesterday and a Larue LT158 two days ago.  Now saving up for some FG MBUS sites and a Nikon M223 1-4.  I like the way it looks so far.

Any criticism/comments appreciated

hey fella's, what's the lightest sub-moa 16" barrel you'd put on a recon?
maybe noveske or rainier match? or something else...
i'm slowly adding parts to my "inspired" build and dont much care to have a front heavy
bench shooter with a heavy barrel and miles of unused rail.

I need pictures of this setup. I demand satisfaction!

Where did you get a hold of the 416? I was looking for one for a while.

First attempt at a recce type rifle, going to shoot it on Friday to see what I like and what's going to be moved, I love it so far though

ETA:  AFG came off, replaced by a harris bipod for zeroing purposes, i think the AFG might stay off for good, probably just go back to a regular KAC type vfg.

I have not put the new scope mount on, but I had the gun out at a demo this week, You can see it here, 3rd gun from right:

Great pic Neil. I wonder how much dollars that is lined up....

I would love to shoot that HK and the first one, the BlockII with the Elcan. That one is sexy.

I have not put the new scope mount on, but I had the gun out at a demo this week, You can see it here, 3rd gun from  real 416 machine gun that I can use. But this thread prompted me to take my 14.5" upper out of the safe and build it.

I haven't looked for one in a couple years, but when I was they seemed to be going for mid $3k up to $4k. I paid the higher end of that for mine. Mine is apparently one of the first ones with a much better barrel than current models. Because of that I have been offered a good bit more than what I paid for it, but I declined to sell it. While I'm generous on the trigger of all my rifles, I can't deny that I'm also a collector of sorts. I enjoy rare items that are as similar in quality as they are in scarcity.

That brown KAC rear might be your greatest achievement

nice rail...did you cut that down or does Rainer Arms offer it in a shorter length then the 12.37"? I just put one on my MRE M6A2 rifle after getting it cerakoted in burnt bronze. Pretty awesome rail.

Honestly, I don't think it does, but to some people's standards almost all the rifles here don't belong. I think of a RECCE as a concept not a specific compilation of parts. Good looking stick either way.

It's a mid-length - 9" rail.  I got that length for the eventual Noveske switchblock.

Variable powered Optic?

This. Nice build JmPnTX , but I'm not quite sure it's in the ballpark of recce due to the optic? It kinda looks more like a good general purpose carbine/HD/close range build imho.

True...  No variable power, looking for a magnifier to add though.  That would bring it closer to the spec...
