Ok i did another search for AP clones and found lots of them 1337 tactical has a few the told me theirs are made for their specs and are more rugged than other clones . Master blaster bullets has two they claim are great. The real tacpoints seem to be disapearing I did find a lot of ultra dots on the airsoft sights for 80.00 bucks though man how to choose. They are cloneing the clones now those crazy chinese. I just dont wana drop 75.00 bucks and get a toy.

My first tacpoint was put on my MAK90 just over 2 years ago, where its first use was in a carbine class, and has been there since. At least 1.5-2k rounds through it, and the sight is still going strong. I haven't had to adjust the POI at all since zeroing it as part of that carbine class.

That class was fun btw. I was the only AK there, and the only one who didn't have to fix or tinker with his gun to keep it running all day. I felt bad, a couple guys had to drop out about 2/3 of the way through the day because of malfunctions we couldn't fix at the range.






My second tacpoint went atop my AK pistol, and I've been similarly happy with its performance.





Since then I bought a strike dot from ultradot, and it bounces around from various 10/22s to .22 pistols along with a BSA red dot.

OK, since this thread is tacked and still going, I have an Aimpoint clone from 1337 tactical and was wondering what anyone thought about them that have used them? Also, has anyone tried to use a double battery cap on one? Will they fit? Probably not but was just wondering if it had been attempted, thanks.

I've had my 1337 clonepoint for about 2 years.  I've put 1000+ round through my AK with it mounted on a BP01 and I just put it on my Delton kit a few months ago. I had the red dot blink a few times when firing the AK so I took the two watch batteries out and put the Aimpoint full size battery in.  I have put the clonepoint on on my ar and it still works fine.   I'll probably buy another when it dies.  I have definately gotten my 65 dollars worth.

I don't know what a double battery cap is but the 1337 comes with two watch batteries to power it. The 1/3N (I think that's the number) for the real Aimpoint fits fine.  David

On a real Aimpoint you can add an extra long battery cap to install two 1/3 N batteries, that is what I am asking. I have one of the 1337 clones and am aware of the battery setup, I was just wondering if the threads might be the same size.

photoman, I will second your "holy shit" with an "oh my freaking God!" this thread is still alive!  

That is so funny that your Tacpoint still works. I pulled mine out of moth balls yesterday because I needed the mount. I got it to turn on, but it won't stay on. I am going to try to stretch the spring and put an Aimpoint battery in it to see if that will work.


Now, did I read that some of you guys are buying a knock off sight of another knock off sight from some china pet supply company on Ebay???  Now I know where to go to dump my old Tacpoint, canted Accushot and dead Rico flashlight.

OK, since this thread came back in "My Active Topics"

I will share more on my experience with the "Tacpoint" red dot scope.

My son and I tried this thing out a while back and our comments are on page ??
of this thread.

In the mean time, my son has been deployed to Iraq as a SAW gunner and he has used the "Tacpoint" on his SAW in service. (Against his dad's wishes)

Here are pics, before and after...

When he had me send it to him.



When he came home on leave.





He told me that the "Aimpoints" looked in the same condition. (Probably because they were in service longer)

He did comment that he went through more batteries but that wasn't an issue.

When he brought this thing home in working condition I was surprised.

Right now it is in my gun cabinet waiting for him to come home and throw it back
on his AR.

The Aimpoint cap is smaller in diameter than the 1337 clone and the Tacpoint.

I am new to the different mounts and co-witness setup, kinda overwhelming. I have a Bushy 16" A1 with a Knights RAS. What mount would I use with the Tac 1 to co-witness with my irons?

Man, this thread needs a face lift!

I am going to update the first post tomorrow with info on the newest version of the Tacpoint clone. I am going to need to dig up my old strick909 password!

It is the Sightmark Tactical Red Dot.
I have been playing with one for a week trying to decide if we were going to sell it and it was worthy of replacing the Tacpoint in this thread.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know what the cowitness is with this mount from 1337 tactical. It doesnt look high enough to be a 1/3, but possibly an absolute? Thanks

It is a standard co-witness on a flat top.

Avoid it. I had that mount and stripped the nut pretty easily. I swapped it for a ProMag mount after that and never had another problem.

No, not absolute. Standard.

You have three types of co-witness.

Standard will put the red dot on top of the front sight post like a lolipop
Absolute (or true) will put the dot in the middle of the front sight so that the top of the front sight would cut the dot in half.

Lower 1/3 will have the dot above the irons unless you look through the irons and it drops it down into the lower 1/3 of the window.

As of today, I only know of two "true" co-witness sight options. The ARMS #22M68 with a medium spacer or a Samson COMS.  Everything else will be standard or lower 1/3.

You will see a lot of cheap clone mounts claiming to be "absolute", but they also claim to be as good a quality as the US mounts. they are full of shit on both accounts.

Very informative post. Thanks to all who have shared their experiences. I have one question since Im going to go ahead and purchase a sightmark for my flatop Tac Car A4. It will have the YHM folding FSB and arms #40 rear sights.

Do I need a cantilever mount or will the sightmark line up with my front post?

The one from shotplus is a tacpoint. the flip covers suck, but other than that is is pretty similar to the Sightmark. I wonder who is doing their warranty now that Hakko is gone from the US?

The Sightmark warranty is handled though Landmark Outdoors. They are near Dallas, TX and the exclusive importer. They also distribute Yukon and their customer service reputation is pretty good.

Can anyone that owns the SightMark tell me the diameter of the optic where the front and rear flip-up covers fit?  I have a Tacpoint that needs a set of covers.  I've found out that they are available from SightMark, but I need to know if they will fit.

Just doing some shooting and it stoped working.
Put in some new batteries, but it did not help.


This thing is susposed to have a life time warrenty, but
the Hakko web sight is gone and their email adress is invalid.

Does anyone know if I can get this thing fixed?
Who to contact, where to send it???







Edit: For the record, it lasted 1,053 rounds on a Bushmaster Carbine.

For the record? What, like you should be happy with 1053 rounds? I would be pretty pissed if something lasted all but a little more than 2 range trips.

ZFB, your day at the range sounds like my day at the range...

R3,

Now you know whay we do NOT, EVER, recommend a knock off sight for defensive use.
You have one chance to fix it. Pull off the battery cover and try to stretch the spring a little. It may come back on with your new batteries. If it does not, throw it away. It is dead and no one will fix it. As ZFB said, in not so delicate words, a lifetime warranty is only as valuble as the company behind it. Hakko is gone and your warranty went with them.

Live and learn. If you can't or won't buy an Aimpoint, you can take a flyer on our Sightmark. It won't last forever either, but at least the company is in Texas!
