When he was giving us our orientation at the beginning of qual week, he spotted a Grandaddy long-legged spider and asked a recruit to dare him to eat it. Well, he did. He even let the legs dangle outside his mouth before he swallowed it. |

The tassels are frayed ends of 550 cord, which is used to dummy cord the acog to the rifle. They are using electrical tape to cover the fiber optics to dim the brightness of the reticle. |

I don't believe the trainees are allowed to have fire-makers (lighters & such) in boot camp & thus they wouldn't have the means to singe the ends of the para-cord. The rubber "covers" (or duck tape/electrical tape/3m 300mph tape) are so that the light from the fiber optic can be dimmed down somewhat during daylight conditions. (The cheveron can become really blooming bright when the fiber optic is totally exposed to full sunlight) |

I asked about the Tassels, because of this pic. It appears that it has the cord going thru ACOG's Sight Channel and has a Small Knot at the Rear and the Large Tassel at the Front.
That's why I asked if they were using them for wind estimation. I still think that it's a good idea. Originally Posted by USMC88-93:

When our series went to the range there were two black recruits with the last name Edwards, one in my platoon and one in another platoon. The other platoon's Edwards lost his firing pin and word got around to the DIs. Well, my Kill Hat who was an infantry Marine going back to Desert Storm, man was crazy, catches sight of our Edwards. He yells "EDWARDS" and off like a bolt of lighting sprints at E.  Jumps up on the benches, grabs him and his rifle, and just gets into it like any good DI would do. My SDI finally moseys over to inform him that it was the Edwards in the other platoon. He lets go of Edwards, says "as you were," steps off the bench and walks away.
I know CSB but good times none the less. |

Our senior lost his shit on me and had me packing my shit to get dropped to another platoon when one of the juniors informed him he had the wrong guy. I was told to unfuck my shit and get back to the range, all like it was my fault.

When in Iraq Staff and Officers got m4's first, then sgt's and leftovers to E-4's. All the staff nco's and officers excluding platoon sgts and commanders then checked them into the armory and carried pistol around for their deployment because they never left the wire. So you have an entire headquarters platoon worth of carbines just sitting in the armory collecting dust for 7 months instead of going to guys that would benefit from their use. |
