We had the pleasure to be invited to the Steyr Arms facility this week to observe their endurance testing for a couple of days on the new AUG A3 Vltor receivers.

By the way the receivers look great! Eric and his crew at Vltor do great work!

16,000 rounds are fired through the receiver by an Austrian Steyr AUG engineer, Alex Giesen & Steyr Arms Master Gunsmith Herbert G. Zero malfunctions occurred through the testing!

Now let's don't forget the Sabre AUG A3 receivers went through the same endurance testing.

There are a couple of 100 AUG A3 rifles built, just waiting for the barrels to come in from FN. Each A3 with be test fired 5 rounds. Then they will be ready to go!

I figured you guys would like to see some pics of the Vltor A3 receiver, sorry not great pics but I think they will do!

I have a few more pics that I will post time allowing!

We did sit and discuss future plans for the US Steyr AUG market, great things will be coming out of Steyr in the near future. We will work on getting new Steyr AUG products to market very soon!

Thanks for looking!

Not that it makes a nickles worth of difference but I like the way the outside of the receivers does not say manufactured by Vltor like the Sabre receivers. I also like the fact it comes in an origonal style box. Good job Steyr.

What would you guys want to see come out of Steyr?
9MM kits, .22lr kits, tan stocks and a forward vertical grip with a slot for pressure switch (steyr already makes these for the SF model)

What AUG?

The A3 SF model
Please bring the A3 SF to the US, either as a complete gun or just the receiver.

9mm Kits - We are pushing it very hard

.22 kits hopefully they will get them running good and make available soon

Tan Stocks - I'm not 100% sure 500 guys/gals would want one (min run is 500)

SF AUG is possible but would be more expensive because of the optics, can't rule it out

Grips with slots shouldn't be a problem to get, I'm sure I could get them if available.

What about an AUG A3 like the one below? Pete Athens

I don't think we will see the A3 SF. It is badass though. It would probably have a price of over 3000. With what there is now I don't know for sure if I would spring for that but it would be very tempting.

Id like to see the versions  of the SF scope and the A1 scope  that could replace the A3 top rail. These two options could allow a A3 owner the opportunity to turn his A3 into a SF version  or a A1 version   just buy changing the scope.

That is what I want.  I need the rails for a light but the fact it keeps the stock forward grip is a huge plus for me.  If that or something very similar would be made available I would buy atleast 2 right away.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to "rails" on guns in general, and I consider myself sort of an AUG purist as I only own A1's...

I would be interested in seeing the weight difference between the A3 and the A3 CQC (with same length barrel).
I'm not sure how I feel about the CQC, honestly the SF is more appealing than the CQC.

For a 9mm AUG, I would rather have an A2 or XS type receiver rather than the CQC or A3 receiver.
Speaking for myself, I would want a small length lighweight receiver for the 9mm as I would put an aimpoint on it.
It would also become a SBR, so the smaller the receiver, the happier I would be.

I have one other suggestion...

On the 9mm barrels, the barrel doesn't use a "gasblock/piston" part, but still has the pressed on barrel "interlock mechanism/VFG" sleeve.

The shorter length "interlock/vfg" part of the 9mm XS would be more convenient for some of us who are going to be cutting the barrels down as short as possible.
The regular 9mm piece as described above doesn't allow for maximum compactness.

If Steyr/FN could accommodate that request, it would be appreciated.

Agreed on the XS 9mm . Keep it simple and lightweight -just like the picture.

All of these wishes depend on cost, but that 9mm XS is sweet.  The guns with tons of rails on them don't excite me at all.  I like the more classic look, feel, and weight.  If you need that many rails for an AUG, you're doing it wrong.

.22 LR would be nice.

Whether it was a conversion kit or dedicated rifle really wouldn't matter to me.

Love their rail, but we're going to get rails from domestic guys. It would take Steyr to give us .22 LR.

I want an A3SF, Pete. As I've mentioned over the phone in the past, it would be great to get the optic itself as well. Looks like the A3 SF uses an A2 reciever; the optic would be an awesome addition to USRs and A2 AUGs.

Josh, the A3 SF does not use the same receiver as the A2s and USRs do. The SF scope will not work on the A2s.

Many years ago I imported a "sample" .22 AUG A3 from ADi. I sent it to BATF for inspection so they could issue me a permit to import them. Well that didn't happen, they rejected them from importation. They said it was a banned AUG!

At that time my cost on the .22 AUG A3 was around $1400. I would imagine nowadays they would cost almost the same as the .223s?

The AUG A3 CQC rails are currently being made domestically in the great U.S.A.

Pete-

Any possibility of an A2 style optic being offered that can fit on the new A3 receivers (or an A2 or A1 receiver for that matter) for the classic look of the original AUG?

I'd love to see that come to market.
