I was teetering back and forth between painting this one or not. I ended up going on a gear buying binge and busted out the paint for some of that stuff. While painting my war belt, one thing led to another and poof:

Potato pics, but you get the idea

I cut a sheet of wax paper and line each side with overlapping strips of blue painters tape. Then I use a razor blade to cut out stencils, i just freehand different shapes to get a big variety.

Then when I paint whatever it is I'm painting, and after doing the necessary prep work, I start with the lightest colors and work towards the darker colors. With each color I peel stencils off the wax paper and pop them on in whatever pattern I'm going for.

Keep them all on until you're done with painting, let it dry, then peel them off. I do a couple of misting passes along the upper half to blend the colors in. When you peel off the stencils there may be a small paint line around where the stencils were. I hit any of those spot with very find sand paper to smooth them out, then hit it with clear coat.

I don't think captcha means what you think it means.  You may want to look that one up.

Took some more pics in natural lighting conditions.

I started by painting the entire rifle Rustoleum Tan as the base.  I let dry for a couple of days then I went back and added the Rustoleum light green in black covering most of the tan base.  Once that was dry, I then went back with the tan through the Laundry mesh and highlighted areas over the green and black.

I changed up the direction of the the mesh a little bit so it wasn't all the same.

I also used two different type of mesh bags for different patterns.  You have to hold the mesh close to the rifle and the can 6-8 inches away using short burst sprays to get it to come through properly
.

I think he is referring to the QR code like tag you have on your rifle...

I don't have any QR code like tags on any of my rifles.  But a QR code isn't a captcha.  The two aren't even closely related.

My first attempt, wasn't too happy with it. I don't have the guts to paint my real rifle though, so I painted a cheapo airsoft gun the kids play with. I redid it with stencil and attempted woodland, should be dry when i get off work today.

It's a orange plastic net used for shipping that I got from work, can't remember if it was from a large motor or something like that.  My friend wanted urban colors and I couldn't find flat gray so I used Rust-oleum primer, lite and dark gray.  Blue was Krylon fusion.  The pic wasn't the finished pic, I went over the whole thing with camo black to wash out most of the blue.  Thanks

I took some more pictures today with all the tape off and under better light.

I feel like this last picture is a pretty good representation of the fade and pattern that I tried to implement.

And I just ordered a BCM grip to replace my Magpul one so I can paint it too!!!

Buy a cheapo airsoft gun at Walmart to practice on. I painted mine about 15 times before I felt good enough to do an actual rifle.

Final paint job on the rifle.
