A buddy and I used to pass time by trying to one up each other on the crazyest guns we could come up with. I thought it might be fun to see what you guys could come up with. To fit within the rules your creation must be realistic and posible within the laws of physics, money and legality are not a concern as its all hypothetical anyway.

A few of our better ones are an M-2 heavy 50 converted to 12ga., an American 180 loaded with rat shot, and a 20mm vulcan cannon converted to 22LR

I like the idea of a man portable GE minigun chambered in 12 gauge, now that would be the ultimate 'room broom'.

I always thought a full auto revolver would be kinda funny.

How about gas pwoered gatling set-up to eliminate the need to carry batteries.  I would think if you used a large enough cartridge, and blead off enough gas, you would be able to rotate the barrels w/o a motor.  Hence, a hand-held LZ clearing MG.

I think it would be pretty cool to have an fully automatic Barrett...think of all the windows around us that would shatter hooting

I still want a small, concealable 45/70 pistol.  Even if you miss the bad guy, the muzzle flash will still blind him, and the sound should scare the fool out of him.z

The one idea that's been in the back of my head,is the belt fed 12 ga.
Will a 12 ga. shell fit in a 50 cal. link?[:\]

Or......How about a belt fed 1911?
Sometimes my brain just goes off on it's own

SLT- There was a variation of the M-61 Vulcan intended for pod mounting that was basically gas operated, rather than using a RAT, or the AC's electrical system..

Anyhow, why not affix a compact(relatavely speaking) electromagnetic linear accecelerator to the muzzle of a handgun? Possibly higher velocities, without excessive chamber pressures..It'd be limited to bullets posessing some ferrous content, but hell, use a CZ-52, and some old Czech ammo..

side note, i made a bb gun do this once. no sights, just the barrel. it worked suprisingly well.

Howzabout a rifle chambered in .700 CrazyBastardMagnumButtStomper (CBMBS)?  If you recall from the original glocktalk.com Mall Ninja thread, this wildcat caliber is capable of destroying an entire building filled with ballistic gelatin!

Seriously, I once drew up plans for a three barreled 20 gauge hand cannon, each barrel loading at the breech like a Magnum Research Lone Eagle.  The third barrel was mounted above the other two in a triangular fashion, and the hammer had to be operated by a linkage going between the other two barrels to the triggers.  Why?  Because I was bored in math class, thats why!

The Thunder-5 was made in .45-70 as I recall. An amazingly ugly gun, and something I'd want to get someone else to shoot first.

I'd like to see a light, handy, little single shot rifle in the .50 McMillan FatMac. Close to 20,000 ft-lbs of energy: 750 grain bullet at 3425 fps.

Or, a rifle I read about a while back: 2 ga., loaded with exploding(!) bullets.  One of the really hairy-chested early ivory hunters used one such.

Note: I want to SEE one, hold it, possibly even OWN it, but, no, I have no desire to fire one. Be happy to watch, though.

*RAILGUN*
-~200-300gr. Projectiles
-100,000V Charge
-Multi-farrad capacitance
-Upwards of 10,000fps
-Rifle assembly consists of an electromagnetic barrel and rotating chamber of ammunition
-Battery assembly consists of a high-capacitance (backpacked sized) battery, attached by insulated 10 Gauge copper line to the chamber.
-Electromagnetic charge from battery negatively charges the barrel (via the chamber), and a pre-charged positive projectile is fired due to the magnetic repulsion

...but I haven't thought about this before or anything...

And the winner is....h
mattsd and his around the corner BB gun(runer up)

Caveman for his creative belt fed 1911(third place)

All three will recive a lifetime supply of NEW AND IMPROVED AIR!

But seriously there were some really good ideas.
and by the way, Zoom, I have shot a 45-70 Deringer.(No S**T a Deringer) I can not recomend the experince.

yeah there is a 45-70 derringer even comes with a waring "MAY CAUSE WRIST DAMAGE"

no shit

anyway a 12 guage mini gun is possible u would have to use brass hulls so they dont melt.

TRUE STORY:

I have fired an automatic revolver !!!

When I was in the UK, just before handguns were banned in 1996, a friend brought an old Webley-Fosbury semi-auto revolver to the range. For those of you unfamiliar with this piece, it is a single-action revolver on which the entire upper receiver/barrel/cyclinder reciprocate on the lower receiver/grip under recoil forces. The result is that the hammer gets automatically recocked after each shot. Its a bit of a solution looking for a problem, but an engineering tour-de-force none the less.

The owner had never fired this particular pistol, and was anxious to do so before it was confiscarted and destroyed by the Govt. He loaded it up with 5 rounds of .455 Webley ammo, and squeezed the trigger... and nearly soiled himself as all 5 shots spat out of the barrel at what seemed like 1000+rpm. Nice verticle group up-and-off the target.

Needles to say, we all had a go and it is one of my most memorable shooting experiences. Alas, this revolver, like so many others, were melted for scrap soon afterwards.
