I m going t otry and buy a D-300 In the next  week or two from Vic.,Is there really a weapon mount for these, because after hours of hunting a picture of one mounted to a Ar or anything for that matter ,I cant find one for the life of me.What options are there for head gear for it,and how many meapon mounts work for a flat top ar with the d-300.There is some info out there, but not much and really no pictures. This is my first NVD,and the 925.00 price is going to force me to sell a few things I hate to,but I think it would be interesting to use camping and maybe nite shooting if I could find a place to do it in or around central Fl.,Any help from D-300 OWNERS?

I had a D300 Gen 2+ that I bought from opticshq.  Great scope, very happy with it.  The IR illuminator on it is pretty bright, a lot brighter than the IR on a PVS14.  Get Da'torch, awesome product, literally a flashlight / spotlight for night vision, a must have for Gen 2+ gear if you want to light up anything at a distance.  Below is a picture of mine.  Yeah I know the picture sucks but it gives you the general idea.  The scope mount was purchased off ebay.  It was an overrun PVS14 mount made by GG&G for ITT.  The mount needed to be adapted a little to fit the D300 properly but it worked.

IM inbound.

The D-300 uses the same Mil-Spec head harness that comes standard with the PVS-14, MUM or PVS-7 or a commercial head harness. It also uses the same standard mil-spec issue PVS-14 mount as well.  As for pictures, they're coming.  Good questions and hope this helps.

Here are some pics of the D-300 with a mil-spec PVS-14 weapon mount. Good platform for those on a tight budget, well except for the rifle, and DBAL A (2) unit!

Who is the manufacturer of the NV mount?   Does it provide a perfect co-witness with the Eo Tech?  From these pictures it looks like it does.

Thanks .

It does with Aimpoint or EoTech. Its head mountable and can be mounted to a day time scope with Universal adapter. Its built with what seems to be a really decent tube for the price,SOMEONE needs to take some pictures and start offering these

How does the performance of this D-300 unit compare with the ITT PVS-14?  Not the external illuminator but the NV itself?

No way,I dont think it would even be close,950.00 for the D-300 and almost 3500 for the other,A person sent me some pictures he took of his door useing a 4 y/o cam. and it looked pretty good,I will post a bunch of pictures when I get mine

It depends on the version of the D300. It comes in a few flavors Gen2, or gen2+, and even Gen3 tubes. Even with the Gen3 tubes its not as good as the PVS-14 from what people say, due to inferior lenses (and it still costs almost as much). In general with the Gen2 units you will have way worse gain/resolution/Signal to noise. The gen2+ systems are better tubes so resolution is about half of the Gen3 units and gain (photoresponse) is about 1/2-1/4 of a gen3 system.  Overall the Gen2+ I'd say is probably the best compromise in terms of cost/performace.

I dunno vic, Gen2 is usable IMO without any sort of IR, it just depends on the ambient lighting coniditions. Starlight on an overcast night you are hosed, but if there is at least 1/4 moon+ about its usually fine. Of course gen3 is gonna always work better in crappy lighting. But where I'm at that only happens aobut 10% of the time.

Im going to be buying a torch to play with,I was wondering about it mounted to a scope, the built in IR will be for inside play

I don't think you can mount it TO a scope, you can mount it in front of an aimpoint/eothing. There are adapters to stick them to scopes but I dunno if will work with a D300.

Indeed!

The Mil-Spec mount for the D-300 seen is USA made.  It does co-witness perfectly with either a AP or EO.

Would you happen to have the name of the manufacturer?

Well i just received a D-300 gen 2+ from Victor

I have never owned a NV device, however this thing is built like a tank. Since it is 24hrs of daylight now in Alaska, I had to resort to playing in my closet.

With no abivent light whatsoever, I fliped the switch to on/IR and holy crap. I could read the writing on a box of .22 lr shells sitting on a shelf.

My decision to purchase was based on having limited funds for a few high dollar items left to finish my Colt AR . So having saved $2500 vs a PVS 14 I can now buy a Schmidt & Bender scope.

Thank you Victor

Whichever you choose, buy with confidence from Victor

Vic,

Can a stndard PVS14 mount be used like one from Larue?

Link Posted: 6/28/2006 8:10:18 AM EDT
[#22]
No Zak.  I asked Victor re: the Larue. it wont work

GG&G multi flex or arms #69 seem like they would work.

I did have a hard time seeing thru my D-300 w/ aimpoint. but I think it would be different outside with a Datorch instead of my closet.

The two mounts that will work with the D-300 is the Mil-Spec PVS-14 mount and also the PRI PVS-14 Night Vision Adjustable Scope Mount.  (Used to be called the M69) The GG&G and the ARM#29 will not.  The lens dimensions on the D-300 vs. the PVS-14 are different.  Hope this helps.

Also, I will be taking some night shots with BOTH the EO and AP this weekend in conjunction with the D-300.

Thanks for the quick reply.... and please stop posting pictures.  It makes me realize I have more than enough room on my VISA for a set up like this....lol

BUt seriously, do you have pictures of both mounts?  I still havent decided on using an aimpoint or an eotech for this 11.5" beast...lol

Is the D300 compatible with a USGI rhino helmet mount?

Also while looking at www.opticshq.com site I have noticed over the past few months, there seams to be less options in the D300 Gen II line.  I thought I had seen a D300 Gen II that had a select grade tube.  But then again I see a D300 Gen 3 grade A that has a similar price to the one I thought I had seen.  Did they streamline their D300 line?

Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt, the D-300 can use the same PVS-14 J-Arm that can connect the unit to the Rhino Flip Up...Also, the D-300 can accomadate a variety of tubes such as the Gen 2's, Gen 3's including of course the Select-A's or Grade-B's.  Hope this helps.

Victor
Thank for the info on the J-arm I appreciate that.  I did know that the D300s could accommodate a variety of tubes.  I did some more looking around and found that there were D300 Gen 2+ High Performance models available at one time.  Would it be safe to say that those tubes have dried up?

Thank you
Matt
