Ive been able to incorporate all my goals into it. I designed this to work with Full profile .980 barrels. Up to .875 gas blocks, 4 Position tool-less adjustment and removal (patent pending) and mid and carbine length kits.  Now I get to wait... Again.

Great news!

I am eager to see this piston system come to fruition!  I'm down for one as soon as you put them out!

I'll definitely Let you know.  Ive got a website started and will turn it on once I get prototypes running how I want and get enough feedback.

Just out of curiosity, why long stroke instead of short stroke?

Less stress on components. With short stroke you need to smack a strike plate on the carrier pretty hard.

It’s something that is in the works. I did talk to Cody and we are going to pursue it once I get the prototypes running. So it looks like it’s going to happen!

The gas block itself will fit under the handguard but to adjust it easily without tools you are going to want at least the adjustment mechanism in front of the handguard.
If someone really wanted to bury it under a longer handguard, they could use a 1/4” socket on an extension to adjust the setting. Or you can mill out a generous window on top of the handguard to adjust it.

Looking forward to this. Not really a huge fan of the picatinny rail on the side of the gas block. I don’t plan on putting a flash light there so not sure the utility. I think it takes away from the Stoner 63 aesthetic and adds unnecessary machining steps. If anything, a bayonet lug should be added like on the Stoner.

Pic rail on the side is eliminated.  The production blocks will be smooth.  It was only ever intended as an option for AR’s. Now that I think of it,  I do need something to do with my Zero Tolerance Bayonet

Oooofffffff that was a pretty decently sized check to write. Prototypes are in progress.  Lead time is longer than I wanted.  We are looking at 8-12 weeks but it may be sooner he said.    I have 10 full kits coming to test.  I have 3 sets coming in mid length with .875 gas blocks and 7 in carbine with .750 gas blocks so Im going to have plenty to work on when the parts come in.  In the days where my form 4's are coming back before the Can is even at the dealer 8 weeks is going to be terrible.

Congratulations on the work thus far!

I wonder if that means subsequent orders (such as your production run of piston kits) will also take 8-12 weeks? Or do machinist take a lot of time to get the tooling setup, and then afterwards it is faster?

Either way, it would be fun to get to watch you work with and shoot the prototypes. Do you have a youtube channel or some sort of social media we can follow?

I have an X page. Search Hutson Arms on there and you should find it.  There is a website but I have not published it yet.  I'll turn that on when the time comes.  I'll probably post videos on X.
It seems like it may be the same wait for production parts to get made.  I don't anticipate they would be too keen on doing all the work holding and tooling offsets on a bunch of different machines to make 10 parts and then having it sit idle for a month or two while I test everything.  I wish it was faster but the reality at this time is these guys have the capability to do the work and they are actually available and communicate.  They aren't too far from me which is great because I can drive out and pick up prototypes and production parts.

Im working on some other projects as well that I think will be pretty slick.   Ill post it on X or here when I'm ready.

I really appreciate that Harvey.  I'll reach back out to Cody about beta testing it.  I think he's down near Boise?  I have some friends and family in that area so maybe I'll take a drive down.  That will give us a chance to work out the adapter for his handguard too.
I emailed Tim Hoffman but apparently he is enjoined from even using his super safeties which is mind boggling to me.  Should I reach out to Rare Breed?   I could send them a box of used cat litter. lol
Tony Rumore agreed to test one of my kits.
So that's 3 Right there including you as long as RRH agrees to do some testing for me.

I have 10 coming and to start will build 3 AR's and both of my Lima 6's.  That way I have a few spares to play with.

Just read on a different discussion that a piston kit was being made for the LIMA 6 and I’m excited. I definetly do love the idea of a piston system and hopefully you’ll find a way to make this compatible with the RHH.

That is the gameplan. I talked to Cody and we are going to be putting one of my kits on a recce RPD demo gun and will work out an adapter for his handguard.  Happy Easter to Everyone!

That looks great!

I was curious, instead of a picatinny front sight rail, have you thought about a "dovetail" style? That way a m249 front sight could be used?

I bet a more simple alternative would be to just find a picatinny front sight post that looks like the m249 hooded sight.

Things are pretty well locked in.  I’m not saying it couldnt happen but it would require significant interest.  I don’t know what the height is on a standard m249 sight and would end up having to either modify the gas block body or make another adapter to get things to line up with the available rear sights out there.   This was the best way I could see to allow the use of the widest variety of front and rear sights. And have them be at the correct height.  The setup is modular however so a replacement tower is very possible. If you like the hooded look there are lots of hooded style front sights out there.

Prototypes will be here in 6 weeks or so I’m told.  Then I need time for testing and validation.  After that is done I may open things up to preorder for the initial production run.  Depending on lead time that may be another 6-8 weeks.  I’m shooting to have production parts by August if things go how I think they will.  The one caveat being I do want to wait for feedback from the beta testers so there might be some extra time there.

Because you and soo many others asked.  I have revived an old concept.  Its a bit too late to do the folding front sight and it adds a bunch of components and complexity.  I may Consider having these made however.

Slick!!

I think a fully hooded sight would be better, based on my experience with a Troy sight with similar wings that bent, but that’s being nit picky.

Looking forward to it!

I have a fully hooded one but I think the open aperture looks a bit better.  It uses AR Front sight posts and you can't get an adjustment key in with a fully hooded sight without a big hole on the top which lets light in and defeats the purpose in the first place.  I could have designed an HK size housing but they are huge and are a bit more Mickey Mouse.  This is adjustable and uses AR Parts.

I made some tweaks and refinements to the fixed sights. They are less curved and more angular.  I widened the base a touch and gave it a nice taper to the sight post platform.  There will be two options,  an "M4" and a Hooded profile.  They both use AR15 front sight posts.

Im trying to gauge how many would prefer the Fixed front sight vs the riser and pic rail section.  What do you all think?

My preference would be fixed hooded. But then I'm an old M60 humper from damn near 40 years ago.

The barrel is the part that is rapidly exchangable (relatively). A fixed sight makes it easier to return to zero. And hooded would have always been my preference. Its just a better sight for making the area you desired uninhabitable.

I like the m4 front base design. Are they suppose to co witness with LPA or occam rear sights? Also, would you know the measurement from the centerline of the barrel to the flat edge of front base before the sight ears start curving?

I can set these up for whatever rear sights the hive thinks is best.  I want to make things that I think are rad and that  people will like!
Most AR15 Flat Top Rail Mounted sights are 1.42" from pic rail surface to center of the aperture or pin.
AR flattop uppers are 1.215" to the top of the pic rail from bore centerline.
M4 marked FSB is 2.357" tall and the A2 is 2.325 to the shelf between the ears if I'm not mistaken.

So say we want to use standard AR15 Rear sights on the L6 and want a fixed front sight to match that will absolute cowitness.  We are looking at 1.215"+.75"(L6 Extra Height) +1.42" (standard Ar sight height to center of the aperture). that's 3.385"
The front sight post is .273" from the top of the dial section to the tip of the post.  so 3.385-.273+3.112" to the flat  on the M4 Style one
The website for the Occam says the rear aperture is .655" above the pic rail.  The height differences are easily accommodated for.

That handguard by Red Right Hand is what originally inspired me to ask about a fixed front sight post in the first place. It is super sexy looking! I asked him when he thinks they will be available and he figured late-May.

I prefer the hooded front sight post, really gives off m249 vibes

Thanks for the work you are doing!
