There is def. a color difference between the upper and lower, but that is how I received the lower from SIG. If I'd refinished them, I'd have probably matched them with gunkote or something. I put a SPARC on it, and it's pretty much perfect (or will be when I get a dozen mags and the stamp comes in for the gemtech HALO). I'll post some different pics later this week.

How is the sight picture here? I've debated doing this to my SBR, but I'm pretty concerned that the AR sights won't give me a good sight picture without a riser. I say this because when I had my eotech mounted to this guy it was *impossible* to see a damn thing without taking my cheek off the stock. Spent a lot of time with my face pressed into a shotgun stock like it was my favorite stuffed animal, so that's how I'm comfortable. I don't want to spend 400+ dollars on a setup to go "well this sucks" and have to start over. |

I just got the lower in last Wednesday and was going to shoot it this weekend. The Troys are actually from an AR I have and was going to let them be my sights on the Sig for a while.
Before I saw the two posts above mine, I had sold the Troys and ordered a set of the Troy micros. The stock is more on the lower jaw than on the cheek. The micros should be much nicer!

Toxie,
How do you like the Sparc? Mine didn't work out so well for me so I went back to an Aimpoint PRO optic. |

Your setup and my sig 556 patrol swat are similar You got the M&P & SIG 551 I picked up a SIG 556 patrol swat & M&P 9MM ( threaded barrel ) LOL! I do want to adopt a 551A1 when funds allow. |

Form 1 Pistol conversion. #2: Vltor flash hider (for Gemtech HALO compatibility) Vtac sling with HK hooks. Vortex SPARC in a "HK height" Larue mount. With the popsicle rear sight, there is no cowitness. :-( I also have a 556 lower, but I think I prefer the swiss rock and lock mags. I have a threaded barrel for the M&P also, but no can yet for that.

Awesome rifle, Rex!
I was torn on mine because I like the look of the 551-A1 lower. I think the Swiss stock looks awesome, but I simply don't like the cheekweld. I think I'm going back to my old ER lower with an AR stock.

I'm seriously considering going down the 551-A1 SBR route. I've always wanted one and it seems like now they are finally available for a reasonable price. I have two questions:
1) how much does the 551-A1 SBR weigh, and what is its overall length? 2) What's the best method of getting a 551-A1 SBR'ed? Buying a regular 551-A1, getting stamp, then replacing/cutting barrel? Getting 551-A1 pistol, getting stamp, and adding a stock? Or buying a factory SBR and waiting for stamp? |
