I knew a bunch of guys in Afghanistan who traded his videos. "Spending time with Bob" was code for "leave me the fuck alone while I watch PBS"

"A little Van Dyke Brown on your fan brush..."
Miss Bob. Man he made it look soooo damn easy. It was calming just to watch life appear on the canvas. Kool Kat. |

|
"Lets give him a little friend over here..."
He made it look ridiculously easy. I read somewhere that he had a brother that was also a landscape artist. Together they developed the techniques that Bob later used on the show. I always hope I'll find an original on a yardsale somewhere. |

My dad used to watch him religiously. So that meant that us kids watched him as well.

Bob was great. I still watch the show. He's buried in Orlando at the big Woodlawn cemetery. (Not my pic)http://www.death2ur.com/bobrossgravesite.jpg Oh yeah...and this: http://unrealitymag.bcmediagroup.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/painting.jpg View Quote Fuck Yeah! |

Pretty sure all mental health, relationship, and geopolitical issues could be resolved if everyone in the world watched that show a couple hours a day. So peaceful and calming.

A true pimp.
Most didn't ever learn of his nationwide prostitution ring. Only after his heroin importation outgrew the protection of congress did he flee the country. Great painter too.

I would get up early in the morning (weekends) and watch his shows as a kid. Never liked painting (on canvas) but what the guy could create (with a few simple tools and some color) always intrigued me.

Bob Ross is one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century.

I remember well. I used to dial him in on channel 9 when I was a kid. I loved the show but have zero artistic ability.

PBS was one of the big 3 channels we used to get. Bob was the man. I never tried to paint, I just sat there slack jawed.
He'd start with nothing but a tree trunk, put some more paint on his brush, say "maybe a happy little stream over here" and in three and a half seconds there'd be a goddamned log cabin and a pony in the mountains. Kids today will never know. |

It's nice to see so many people remember him. We watched him on break last night at work, simply masterful.

Me and a buddy of mine had a drunken Bob Ross night a couple months ago. When I get home from work I'll try to find my abortion of a painting and post it here so y'all can have some laughs.

It's hard to find an entire episode online now. He has a real calming effect. I did my best to watch him for years. Need to start again. The paint color "Black Jesso" is his invention. Thanks for the topic OP.

Always enjoyed the show. Did not realize that he did 20 years in the Air Force prior to the show. And if Wiki is to be believed, he got his first perm to save money on haircuts, did not like having a perm but it became his trademark look.

Loved his show. I always got the feeling, though, that he needed the serenity of his art to keep his "edges" from coming out.
Like if you pissed him off he'd pop the "Five Finger Palm Exploding Heart" thing on you. |
|
+1, I could give a damn about learning to paint, but the artistic creation was earth shattering to me as a kid.
