Looks very nice, does the larger side plate get rid of the wood better?

Did you compare the Stihl one to the West Coast one?
View Quote

I haven’t got to run it yet…I was finished for the day by the time it showed up, and it’s been raining nonstop sense.

I looked at the West Coast one but it was $60 more and doesn’t have captured bar nuts….which is a deal killer for me. Plus I don’t really care for the look of it.

This is a judgement free zone (almost)….the captured bar nuts are the real deal killer for me.  It’s probably one of the cheapest adders to the pro series saws but one of my favorites.

I like the captured as well.
WCS now offers their billet covers to captured in 462 and 500i, but mine is the older non captured

I must say that the captured bar nuts are very nice.

I lost a nut on my old saw years ago in tall dry grass as I was untangling the chain that had come off. I must have spent 20 minutes looking for that damn nut.  After that I had a spare on hand.

Had some trees next to a building I needed to cut and of course they were leaning toward the building.  Bought something I didn't know existed.. a rope Comealong. I got it with 50' of rope which means it has 50' of pull line take up. I used it on one of the trees yesterday and it worked amazing.  I threw a line in the tree.  Attached a sheave block to another tree(the direction I wanted it to go), went back the other way and attached the comealong to another tree in the opposite direction. Put some tension on it, made the face cut, got my 10yr old daughter on the comelong and when I made the back cut she started cranking. Fell right where it was suppose to. I Highly recommend this tool.

Dropped another decent poplar last weekend. 5-6 more to go. I potato pics. The rope puller is awesome.

Pic heavy:
Some pics showing air filter cover mods (holes/slots) you can compare to your 500i factory cover if you like.
The red silicone membrane, cut gaskets, seals off much better than single factory foam gasket and makes the cover know click in firm.

I was running a thin non-oiled foam pre filter and as you can see, plenty of dust still got in the outer pleats but inner side pleats are clean.
I use heavy red grease on the filter rubber where it slides on to the air filter housing.

Removing all of this for the after market WCS system that I posted before.
Trying to get caught up on all my bs projects today.
Happy chainsaw day and cut safe.

Some of those, especially the one near the 55 gallon barrel, look like Ailanthus Altissima aka Tree of Heaven.  Absolute shit tree.  Invasive species from China [insert the "There's a big fucking surprise" gif here].

Crap wood, not worth anything other than destroying it by any means necessary.

If it's Poplar, then it's good burning firewood:  fast to dry, easy to start, doesn't last very long; perfect for shoulder season burns.

Yep I’m all too familiar with the tree of heaven.  After I bought this house I cut them all down, except that one by the barrel because it was leaning over the building (it’s down now ). I do still battle left over roots sprouting new trees (I didn’t stump treat on the first several I cut).  I bet I cut down 8-10 of them that were 12”-20” diameter.

I generally keep poplar In the mix, as it does burn hot and clean but fast.  I’ve also got several 30+” red oaks down in the woods that will be processed before the poplar

Which cuts faster.  500i with a 20" bar or a hand saw.

It was the only bar the seller had and I took it because he was only asking $50 for it - brand new. 20" 3/8" .050" 72DL.

I have a 24" Tsumara and 36" Forester bars that I can too. Most likely I'll run the 24" bar for the majority of the time.

24-28” lightweight bars are about perfect for the 500i IMO….it’s nice being able to throw a longer bar on when needed though.

Not being into the Stihl thing, I was slightly jelly of the longer bar.  I guess it isn't a thing then.

A 26" bar would be a sweet do everything for my 572.  A shame it isn't a real thing.

Now I just leave the 28 on it, but the times I put the 24 on it, it really screams.

I've got a 620PW with an oem 24" bar, and that saw flat rips.  It shreds the wood.

I usually use the 502p with the 20" bar, though.  Quite a bit lighter.

Is a .43 gauge picco bar too small for my Stihl 025? Was looking for a 16” .50 narrow kerf set up to replace my 18” .63 rollomatic, but it seems maybe the .43 size is more common?

Yeah I know Stihl's bar measurements are kinda fucky for no reason in terms of length, but their Rollomatic ES Light Bars are literally 30% lighter than the standard Rollomatics. I've weighed both mine and compared them to the standard bars; 30% on the nose for both.

Question bump, cause I'm not sure.
You should be able to get a 50 bar and chain, 63 might be a bit too much bite for the 025.
