The show pretty closely follows history, some is a bit off including timelines. Ragnar won't die now.

Ragnar's baptism is going to mess with Floki's mind, especially when Ragnar recovers. Right now Ragnar's considered a dead man walking. The series is hopefully saving him for King Aelle's snake pit.
King Ecbert is a real SOB for cuckolding his own son! Wonder if he'll bump off his son and take son's wife as his own? That would give him a lock on Northumbria, especially if something "happened" to King Aelle. |

From Wiki According to the stories, Ragnar was killed by Ælla, and the army which seized York in 866 was led by Ragnar's sons who avenged his death by subjecting Ælla to the blood eagle |

Did Catholics baptise by immersion in the Middle Ages? Did that change at some point?

Did Catholics baptise by immersion in the Middle Ages? Did that change at some point? View Quote Yes and no. As the faith spread to northern Europe it simply was not possible to baptize in frigid or even frozen water. Ragnar has really blown Floki's mind now. It seems that Lagertha was taken aback too. I believe that that the final amount that was paid to the Vikings was 7,000 pounds of gold and silver. One other factor driving them away from the city was plague. As you can see by this episode, it has already started in Paris. This will hit the Vikings too if they follow history. When Ragnar get better, he can attribute it to the Christian God. He is pretty broken up inside and a healing would seem miraculous to the people of the day. |

The Siege of Paris
... Another Viking leader, Rollo, stayed behind with his men. In May, disease began to spread in the Parisian ranks and Gozlin died. Odo then slipped through Viking-controlled territory to petition Charles for support; Charles consented. Odo fought his way back into Paris and Charles and Henry of Saxony marched northward. Henry died after he fell into the Viking ditches, where he was captured and killed.
That summer, the Danes made a final attempt to take the city, but were repulsed. The imperial army arrived in October and scattered the Vikings. Charles encircled Rollo and his army and set up a camp at Montmartre. However, Charles had no intention of fighting. He allowed the Vikings to sail down the Seine to ravage Burgundy, which was in revolt. When the Vikings withdrew from France the next spring, he gave them 700 livres (pounds) of silver as promised, amounting to approximately 257 kg. View Quote |

Genetically, he's GTG. I think King Ecbert is trying for a firmer claim to the throne of Northumbria.
OTOH, Ecbert and Ragnar may wind up in King Aelle's snake pit together. |

What's up with that "wanderer" translator. Is he wearing badly applied lipstick or what. |

Ecbert is a deep thinker that must have a plan for shifting the blame of killing the viking farmers away from him and his son. My guess is that he says Aelle did it, causing the vikings to attack. Ragnar is captured and killed.
This probably needs to wait a few more years for Ragnar's kids to grow up, they should all be of fighting age when they kill Aelle. |

Ragnor certainly layed the law down with his 'I am the King' ass-kicking.
IIRC first time he has gotten angry at his own people. Of course, he is in a lot of pain, all broken up inside, pissing and coughing up blood. |

Holy crap dead vikings everywhere, did the french even lose ten guys? Does Ragnar have any troops left View Quote Attacking a heavily fortified island city with what amounts to light infantry, without artillery, (Ballistae, catapults etc) and sappers, just sayin, not a real great idea. The Vikings were great a raids on largely undefended targets, even openly defended ones, but fortresses, not so much. They sacked Paris, but at great cost. |

Are you going to answer ever post in this thread cause thats some impressive dedication. Attacking a fortified city on a island would have to be about as hard as it comes and the vikings didnt seem to put much thought into it.
