This is something a bit different...
Failed To Load Title Something like that would probably prove pretty useful in our light infantry direct support artillery battalions if we ever went to war against an enemy with modern equipment. |

Put a 20 round magazine on that thing and you would really have something.
|
|
That's pretty cool but how many rounds can it fire before the chassis fails? Seems pretty lightweight. And, where are the support vehicles for ammo and FDC?

Put it in a video game so I can use it as a close quarters direct fire weapon .

This...is pretty damn cool. Can definitely see the niche that would be useful for.

Riding around in Afghanistan in a HMWWV....
No thanks, I did it two deployments and saw what a IED/VBIED does to one. Luckily I was in a MRAP when we hit a VBIED, if I was in a HMMWV my remains would have came home in a MRE bag. Would be ok if there was a low chance of IEDs/VBIEDs. |

It's all fine and dandy in that clean configuration,
but what happens when you add Camo poles/net. Oh and lets not forget TA-50, a roll Concertina Wire etc.etc..etc... Watch the time be 10 to 15 minutes. |

That would have been a game changer in ww2. View Quote What's old is new again ! |

The Mandus Group in Rock Island has had one sitting outside their shop . I drive by it quite a few times.

A while back I had this awesome idea to take an M1, strip off the 120mm gun, and put on dual GAU-8s, because it would just kick ass.
The idea was no well-received here. "Boy, I got vision, and the rest of the world wears bifocals." |

Of course you could also take the same basic idea and scale it up a bit if you wanted to. The French have the CAESAR 155mm howitzer mounted on an 8X8 truck chassis. It carries quite a bit of ammo and is autoloading. http://www.armyrecognition.com/images/stories/europe/united_kingdom/exhibition/dsei_2015/pictures/DSEI_2015_Nexter_s_brand_new_8x8_Caesar_self_propelled_howitzer_starring_in_London_640_001.jpg If the French can build that, I'm sure we could figure out a way to mount the basic M777 155mm gun to a HEMTT 8x8. A wheeled, self propelled howitzer in the 155mm range would seem to be something better suited to our Stryker BCTs than towed howitzers, especially if we continue to insist the SBCTs have a role in high intensity conflicts. Hmm. Perhaps an L-ATV or M-ATV could be modified in a similar way. Looks like it could be useful in quite a few really sneaky ways.
|
|
I could see it having some purpose in a low intensity conflict, or a quick raid, or use by an expeditionary force or smaller military which didn't need the same firepower we require.

I'm thinking it would be perfect for hog hunting! Question for the US Army types: Where does the USA typically fire those type weapons? It looked like the eastern side of the US. Thanks, View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes |

View Quote If it can be air dropped, I could see it being useful. If not, a M109 will do it's job better and when you factor in development costs, it won't save much money. well it would certainly be fast as fuck to do a hipshoot in one of those.

Dice needs to do a patch/update to Battlefield 4, and include those...

Rather than having to have separate birds for the gun and the prime mover, they're together. There's no need to rig two loads, or strip them of the rigging in order to drive off the LZ. You'd need fewer birds to deliver the same amount of firepower, as well as the ability to use smaller LZ's. And, for something like a raid, where the birds drop off the guns, the guns fire a few rounds, and the birds come back to pick up the guns, it would give the option of mounting up and unassing the AO in the trucks if it got too hot for the birds. |
