Listening to guys who carried one in JSOC makes me not want one.
In Blackhawk Down, an operator drew his 1911, aimed and pressed the trigger…hammer was frozen by sand. Took cover and threw a frag. Kyle Lamb, on his podcast, said that they could not shoot their pistol standards without multiple malfunctions. Those are not rack grade guns…and they still failed. |

We can't get them any longer, but the ones that are here are pretty well regarded, and they make excellent bases for custom guns. IIRC there were some with headspace issues, though. Quoted: There are many firearms from the early 20th century that still are useful. The Mauser 98 action is still excellent as a hunting rifle. There are many shotguns from that era that are still excellent The Smith & Wesson M&P revolver is still a useful sidearm. The cartridges from the early 20th century are still as useful today as they were then. ( .30-06, 8mm Mauser, .30-30, 12 guage shotgun, .45 ACP, .38 Special and 9mm Parabellum for example) The 1911 is no longer the most advanced semi auto pistol; however a properly built example is still as good as it ever was. View Quote Explain advanced? I’m pretty sure they both shoot ammo of designated caliber. I wouldn’t say stamped metal and plastic parts is some crazy advanced tech- it’s called cheaper. |

View Quote I've had junk get caught up under the hammer while in the woods. Keeping an eye on it helps to some extent. I need to try out my 6004 in the woods to see if the hood helps to keep it clear, especially when removing it. Working around helos isn't great for most guns. Lamb talks about sand going up the back of Glock grips causing failures as well. I had issues a couple times with my SAW and rotor wash. |

Get the gun to pass Hilton Yam’s reliability tests and you’ve got a good 1911. Biggest problem I’ve ever had with 1911’s is improperly fitted parts and crappy magazines. All were solved with quality parts and good mags.

I am right there with you OP. I’m a millennial love 1911s.
I had a soy boy recently ask me why I wear a nice automatic stainless steel watch- when I have a cell phone in my pocket. Me- so you’re fine spending $1000-1500 on a phone that’s worth $100 next year but hate on my watch that will keep time for a decade without a software update? 1. Some thing’s worth owning gain or hold their value. 2. The zero craftsmanship and plastic guns will never do either. What’s a Sig worth when Wilson Combat can sell half of it for $65 made in Arkansas? A little more than a good magazine for most other guns. Hmm |

I live low risk, suburbs and it's Hot (Texas and now GA). so it's shorts/tshirts most of the time. I'm mostly carrying a 365xl these days. Thinner than a 1911 even with thin grips, has a dot, light mount, and 2x the capacity. I've been working on losing a bunch of weight (50 pounds now!) so adding another 2 on the belt won't be a big deal. |
