357SIG can send heavier loads vastly faster than 9mm. Add that to a bottle neck catridge that makes feeding flawless and you have a serious round.
Ive seen side-by-side Glocks in 357S and 9mm and its a night-and-day comparison. 115gr 357SIG is a light-out round at 1550-1600 fps |

Fuck off and go shoot.
That said, if ammo prices and availability were the same...357 Sig all day long. |
|
I wish 357 Sig was more popular.
I also wish Glock would put out a G32 gen 5 MOS. |
|
I prefer 9x23mm Winchester. 357 SIG doesn't work real well in 1911 type guns. So much for the theory that bottle-necked cases feed better.

Why doesn’t everyone just shoot 44 magnum out of a big hos revolver like dirty Harry? Handgun power is a trade-off. I think 9 mm is the best balance between power, capacity, and shootability.
I think most people agree with me, which is why 357 Sig never took off, 40 Smith and Wesson took off and then died, and 10 mm just dies, and then struggles to come back and kind of dies again. And then there was that 45 from Glock. |

I don’t recall exactly what they said but Glock recently stated that 10mm was on the rise and I believe their second best seller. |

357 Sig
All day; every day. Once you experience shooting one with premium ammo you will understand. Once you price premium ammo, I’ll understand why you will stick to 9mm. |

Still trying to put a Sig 357 together. 9 is good enough for most things, I just want a Sig 357.

Full power .357 sig is awesome. Best plinking round I ever had easy access to was the privi stuff. The cost and all the watered down ammo is what stopped it from ever taking off. If it was like $15 a box for 50 rounds I would be all over it. I still have about 300 rounds of hst and gold dots laying around. 9mm is still cool too. I just love clearing out an indoor range with my fireballs and thunder barking.

For comparisons : Only 11x .357SIG offerings. 43x .40S&W , 44x .380ACP , and 36x .357Magnum. Also considering more manufacturers are offering new gun models chambered in 10mmAuto suggests it's here to stay |

I can have every 9mm and still want more.
.357 is one of my favorite rounds to actually shoot. I'm conflicted on this one but voted 9mm. |
|
357 sig is superior performance wise, but 9mm wins as it’s much cheaper to shoot and “ good enough “.

9mm Parabellum for me.
People can shoot what they want and I can see how the .357 Sig or the .40 S&W might have some advantages in some situations. Thing is though, once you get to a .380 ACP current studies suggest that increasing the caliber or velocity does little to increase "stopping power," whatever that really is, up until you get to rifle velocities or shotgun sized bullet diameters. All of this assumes reasonably good ammo of course. Anyway, standard pressure 9mm with a premium hollowpoint is just fine. And this means you just need to worry about one kind of defensive handgun ammo as 9mm is not too harsh even in tiny pistols, is easy to shoot in full sized guns, and is about as effective as any other handgun. Note that I did say "about as effective." +p ammo or heavier calibers are bound to be somewhat more effective, it's just that the difference is apparently marginal. |
|
I like 357 SIG on paper but it's basically dead. 9mm is cheaper, has far more guns available in it, and does almost as well for all practical purposes.
|
|
357 SIG FTW! I leave all of the 9mm guns, ammo, and reloading components on the shelves and racks at local retailers.

I don't like my P229 in 357; it's ok but not super comfortable after a couple boxes of ammo. A Gen 4 Glock 35 with a 357 barrel on the other hand...much nicer. I wonder if a Gen 5 would be even more comfortable...

9mm simply for ammo availability and price. If more power is needed, choot 'em twice.

357 is superior to 9mm when it necessary to penetrate cover like car doors and windshields.

Quoted: Both of my 357sig 1911s feed perfectly. View Quote Congratulations. That is not always the case however. I finally got mine to work well, except it would choke on some handloads that went through my SIGs just fine. I have played with several bottle necked cases in 1911 types. They can work, but they can also be troublesome. I believe it is incorrect to say that they are more reliable than straight wall cases. |

If 357 Sig is so awesome, why isn’t 38 Super more popular outside of competition circles?
|
|
Does someone else make a factory .357sig M1911 other than SIG?
there was a time I lusted after a commander sized Nightmare model, but wussed out over introducing a foreign cartridge to the fort.. |

Quoted: If 357 Sig is so awesome, why isn’t 38 Super more popular outside of competition circles? View Quote One reason is that 9x19 cartridges work so much better through a double column magazine. In addition they are shorter than .38 Super cartridges, so less difficult for most shooters to handle a double column magazine pistol. Now, 357 SIG is short, and works well in double column magazines, but it came to the party a little late. Economics and ergonomics both favor 9x19, and ballistics is close to equal. |

G24 if you can find one. Put in a .357 Sig barrel. Same mags, extractor everything. You can even get an extra round of .357 Sig in the .40 mags. I have a factory .357 Sig barrel for my G23. It’s amazing how different the shooting experience is. As others stated, the high velocity is an awesome thing. Would love to have an MP5 clone chambered in it. |

I shoot 9mm 60% of the time, because it is inexpensive.
.357 Sig 10% and .40-Super 30% (I reload the .40-Super so I can shoot it more). It’s shocking how much faster and harder hitting the 357 and Super are. |
