Eh, I wouldn’t consider that bad of a nanny state thing. They are avoiding having to put rescue personnel in danger later down the line when the people inevitably realize they are fucked. No crew is going to sit back and let them die because “thy knew the risks” View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Why anyone would still be there is a mystery to me, but apparently there are some stubborn folks about. I certainly follow what you mean. Sucky situation all around. It looks like Scott from Apua Hawaii tours has decided that he's going to suspend his videos, largely due to the fact that all of the areas are now cordoned off. |

Didn't see this posted. It's from yesterday but gives a good overview of the expansion through yesterday at noon.
Based on the pics, it's now completely around the crater and taking out homes to the southeast. Attached File |

It's a bit hard to see but this is the one pic I've found that shows the lake in contact with the lava. It just snaked around the side of crater wall to get to it with a thin finger of a flow. It was taken at 1:30pm Hawaii time. 4:30pm Pacific. https://i.imgur.com/hQEj6TA.jpg By now(10pm Hawaii time) the 400 foot deep lake is certainly dried up and filled by lava. Probably has been for a few hours. When the plume stopped ... that likely was when the water was no more. View Quote Quoted:
Jeebus. 400 feet deep. I revised my impressometer. That's a lot of water. View Quote Quoted:
Fuck yeah. That's nukular bomb type energy. Boil the 400' deep lake the hell dry. Firestarter! real wrath of God type stuff. Cats and dogs living together..mass hysteria! View Quote This article says it's up to 200 ft in some spots. |

Quoted: The lake is 400 years old, not 400 ft deep. This article says it's up to 200 ft in some spots. View Quote thanks for doing that. More pictures: 7AM from USGS. |

this looks like it is getting worse The place that is getting wiped out looked like paradise. I can see why people took the risk and built there. |

Civil Defense Warning just appeared on tv during the game about 30min ago all to warn us that there is no tsunami threat after a 5.7 earthquake

Looks like the lava's path is heading straight for all of those houses and to the sea. The amount of material from the fissures just astounds me. I wonder how far it has advanced since that picture was taken?

Bummer, looks like that beautiful fishpond is going to be destroyed.

video of the flow moving ... from the side.

According to this the lava reached the ocean in Kapoho at about 10:30pm last night.

I took this pic in December of 1982, a little over a week before Kilauea blew. We were on vacation in Hawaii and went to Volcano National Park, stood on the edge of Kilauea. They told us it was swollen 9 feet and ready to blow. Thought I'd share.

Quoted: That was fast! View Quote I think the A'a flows generally work like that... move, pause, pool up, outside cools a bit, The pooling becomes too much to contain and it breaks through the crust it had formed... repeat. |
