The editor of Firearms News is a huge retro guy. Got his first AR-15 in 1979 and his first job in the gun industry was building AR-15s from kits when he was a teenager in the early 80s. I heard that he was looking to do a Retro 3-Gun event in Ohio next year. https://files.osgnetworks.tv/12/files/2018/07/Issue-13-retro-cover-.jpg |

Quoted: The Ohio Attorney General has stated that there will be no prosecutions regarding these "shotguns" and they are also made here by Ithaca and sold at most shops. The attorney General just won governor and will sign the legislation after it goes through one more time - already passed but liberal Kasich won't sign it. Ohio has all Republican majorities now and has one of the strongest state gun rights organizations in the country. At one time, Ohio was only second to Texas in machine gun ownership. I don't really see much in the way of a Retro completion with shockwave type shotguns. View Quote |

I just watched an episode of Simon & Simon last night where they have to rescue their friend by a place with a lot of armed security. Rick had an AR-180 with a 30-round mag and AJ a police-style shotgun, an 870, I think, with revolvers for sidearms. Another episode I saw a few days ago had them getting in a shootout with Rick having a belt full of magazines for his 1911.

For those of us with either Shockwaves or Tac14s.... this is how the US Marshals used to run their "witness protection" shotguns
Attached File The key to this system was the design of the sling. The designers utilized an M1 Carbine sling with a quick-release snap that was mounted to the hand stop. The shotgun could be slung under a jacket in an upside-down configuration. To present the shotgun, the user would grasp the forend with his or her support hand, reach across their body and unsnap the sling. This freed the shotgun, and the support hand pulled the gun from under the jacket for a reasonably efficient presentation. View Quote |

Is there a video or better description of the deployment somewhere? As a teenager, I rigged a sling like that for a similar 870 AOW and underarm carried it concealed under my strong arm, but I just reached across with my support hand and released a Fastex buckle, which seems way faster than the above description. Anyway, I quickly learned that carrying/deploying an MP5K from the Eagle shoulder harnesses was a much better solution. It sucked having that heavy 870 flop around under a coat, and there was nothing on my support side to counterbalance the weight. The MP5K with 2x 30rd mags as counterweights only got weird if I ran, but I could deal with it. Still ended up going back to a P226 pistol though. |

That doesn't sound "reasonably efficient" at all. Did USMS carry the gun slung on their support side? I'm trying to picture that release sequence in my mind, but the rear Uncle Mike sling swivel is difficult to remove, because the release must be pushed, rotated, and then the stud slid free of the peg. That's a fairly slow operation in this setting. If they're releasing the front, it looks like the snap button could easily snag the slot in the front swivel and get stuck, or the rest of the sling could get stuck on clothing as they drag that out with the weapon. View Quote Are there better slings today? Sure! But we're doing 80s here... remember? |

LOL. A lot of those gun blogs would dry up without ARFCOM threads to regurgitate. That's my article that I wrote specifically to get the idea of this new sport off the ground. Not everyone is on Arfcom. But a number of people read TTAG. |

Hell, I spoke with a couple of gun rights organizations to see if they want to help sponsor the match. They are interested since it is open to NFA items and the like since some of the other shooting sports are more restrictive.
The goal is fun for all and not making it gun golf where only pros compete as a sponsored team shooter. |
