The damn park service has so many names for things it confuses the hell out of people. The reason I knew about this is because I carry all the time in Shenandoah and I constantly have to correct people in threads about national parks vs national forests, etc.

Eta: in VA we have highways that go through interior land that constantly screwed people before that law was passed.

I take side roads skirting/entering the park and am always nervous about it. The fines and risk of imprisonment used to be severe.

Don't know if I even know any LE rangers working there any more. I can say this, while there may be some liberal hippie rangers out west, all of the guys and gals I've worked with from the NE were true patriots and took no shit.
