Here is a good one for GD. If an adult is diagnosed with one of the above but is a fully functional member of society (married, kids, job etc) what does that do to him in regards to firearms if anything?
Just on the spectrum not like you see in the movies. |

A medical diagnosis like that has no impact on your gun rights

Oh no! It's now someone that will wear their pedantic nature like a badge.

Makes no difference unless they have tendencies to kill or harm people. Hell that could cover everybody at some point in life.

If the person with autism murders someone, he'd probably should go to jail.
Our bill of rights isn't something that should be disregarded when it's convenient, like in a fake pandemic, or a person who thinks differently. |

I would hope that if I’m ever diagnosed with Alzheimer’s that whoever will leave me with one gun.

Honestly, an adult diagnosis, unless accompanied by severe symptoms, would be moot.
The best time to diagnose is before the age of 5, and that is mainly due to the fact of getting a therapeutic regiment in place to help the child overcome any developmental delays that may arise from said diagnosis before they become firmly entrenched. At the adult age, unless medication is going to be prescribed there really isn’t anything that a diagnosis would change. |

Quoted: This. If being on the spectrum was a disqualifier, half of GD would be prohibited persons. I’d say 50% are either prohibited persons or their mom won’t let them have one. |

My Aspie son likes collecting MilSurp arms. As an Aspie he is adamant about following the rules. He one of the safest gun owners you will meet.

Neighbor has adult son with Asperger's who got an FOID card and pistol permit here in New Jermany.

Our 6 yo son is severely mentally disabled. His "diagnosis" is ASD, et al. Whole host of issues, non-verbal being among them.
We already know that when he turns 18, we have to petition the court to take away his adult rights and have him made our dependent for life, or whatever legal terms you use for that situation. It sucks, but it is what it is. On the plus side, he will get disability when he turns 18, possibly sooner. Since it goes off of my earnings, he should do well. Considering he will have zero expenses so long as I'm alive, he will be a severely mentally disabled wealthy person . In all seriousness, that money will be put into a trust for his needs for when I'm not around to provide for him anymore. I'm hell bent on making sure he is well taken care of, not shoved in some damned institution somewhere to be drugged out and stare at painted cinder blocks the rest of his life. |

While there will always be cases that go against such things, the fact of the matter is, a larger number will fall into the category you describe. It’s in their nature. They CANT break the rules. 99% can’t even lie. I love my child’s inability to have a filter and to “call a spade a spade”. It’s refreshing to be around someone who is so brutally honest. |

View Quote I've seen this manifest in two ways - the rules are the rules. So you have the rules follower, and you have the rules understander. The first will follow the rules to a T, simply because they're the rules. The second is based in logical consistency; present a rule and you get asked "why?" - not being contrarian, but wanting to understand. If you say just because/because I said so/that's the way it is, that rule is NOT getting followed, or only will be when the enforcer is around. But answer with a simple, but true reason and that kid will latch onto that reason and live that rule. |

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, unless those people are autistic or have Aspergers"
That's pretty much how I read it. |

I feel, from my own personal experiences with these things, and what I’ve observed in other children with the same issues, that a large chunk of the “negative” aspect that is so often touted, is a lack of parenting. Either the parent wishes to solely blame the syndrome for all the child’s actions, and not be a parent, or the parent is restricted by there own inability to fully understand what the syndrome is, thereby not effectively working with the child to adjust the issues they are presented with. I by no means wish to indicate that we haven’t had our own issues with my child, but I can say unequivocally that our attentiveness to the situation as well as our approach to it at their young age, has greatly shaped the person they are today. Someone that, aside from a speech impediment, no one would have a clue is on the spectrum, unless they themselves have dealt with it and know it well. |

Obviously the OP has not interacted with the portion of the firearms industry that designs most of the products he loves....

This would disqualify a large portion of GD. I’m kinda kidding, but I’m also kinda for real.
ETA and to address the OP, fuck all that. Shall not be infringed. It’s not up to me which law abiding citizens get their rights, nor should it be anyone else’s. |
