NEVER lose your inhibitions around the people you work with.

Lol. How else are you gonna bone that homely ass girl from accounting unless you lower your inhibitions?

Most Christmas parties I've been too are a +1 type event.

After Honeywell bought us ALL the parties and non work benefits ended.
We were told when asked why.
We are here to provide gainful employment in support of our companies goals and mission statement.

It was good place to work before the sale.
I'm out of there now.

I NEVER drank to excess while with people I worked. If at all.

I've seen drunken toe licking in the lounge of the venue.
People puking in the lobby.
2 girls making out on the dance floor with the VPs 21YO nephew  in the middle. He had a story to tell come Monday at work.
A guy was pissing in the middle of the parking lot with no care of who saw him. Then he had a moment of clarity. He started walking away from the people approaching him but didn't stop peeing. (Same guy that puked in the lobby but different year).
22 years with the same company. You get to know who to watch.

Last year, an employee left the Christmas party and wasn't heard from for the next six days.
Turns out, he had been sitting in jail. That was discovered when someone at the company called the police to report him missing. Was arrested for DUI and getting feisty with Officer Friendly. He was single, lived alone, and no one but his boss missed him.

2019 was a hellacious year for him. Didn't get his license restored until September, spent several weekends in jail, kept his job but slept at work many nights when he couldn't find a ride. Fines and fees broke him.

I spoke to him yesterday. Said he is not attending this year's party on Monday, even though it is a liquor free lunch at the place of business. Seems the company learned a lesson too.

I avoid office parties as much as possible. Even when I was in the military I didn't go to them. Too much stupid shit is said and done, and I don't wanna fill out HR paperwork because Jack touched suzies tit when he was drunk and I just happened to see it.

Our co rents a place out. Two drink tickets. Employees only. The funny part is they promote the dancing. I guess they're encouraging dancing with your co-workers. Never been and no desire to start.

When I was with a smaller company we did it at the bosses house and it was a good time.

Our crew parties are pretty well lubricated.

I've been dry for 12 years so I usually drive.

Lots of fun hanging out with the boys though.

Go to a couple every year.  I enjoy them for the most part.  They’re okay as long you don’t let yourself get stupid.

I haven't been to a Christmas party of any type in several years. The last one I was at, I won an Aimpoint. So that was a great party as far as I'm concerned.

Does your work still have these? I'm wondering if with the correct heightened awareness of drunk driving, and the incorrect concern of PC, they just don't make 'em like they used to? I kinda feel like the full-blown movie-type parties started to go away in the mid 2000s or so. I remember in the 90s where we had a company party on a big boat, and pretty much everyone got three sheets to the wind, from the top boss on down.

Probably depends on the type and size of the business. I've been working since 1991 and have never had a company function that involved alcohol.

This year I went to one at a company where I do some contract work.

It was a sweater and slacks kind of party with about 100 folks. Open bar, nice food etc.

One guy showed up in jeans and a Santa hat and a red t-shirt that said "drunk spouses matter".

He was true to his shirt. Dumbass is lucky he didn't cost his wife her job.

We did up until sometime around 2k  the last party one of the receptionists loudly announced that the owner was such a great guy his wife should blow him, she said this too his wife in the middle of the party so 90% of the party could here her.  Yep she did not make it to the New Year employed with us and that was the last Christmas Party. Pretty sure from what I heard people did get laid at those parties.

Now its a bring something to eat and we shut down on the 24th halfway thru the day so its pretty much just enjoy and be merry and no mo drinking.

Old company:
Xmas party at the casino, everyone gets a room if you're attending (so nobody drives)
Open bar. HR walking around with a bottle pouring into peoples' mouths.
Someone pissed themselves. Someone puked in the lobby. Everyone had a good time.
That was 2017.

Current company:
Xmas party at the fancy golf club. Everyone gets drink tickets and mandatory Uber (paid for) home if you're drinking and don't have a DD.
Owner walking around with full drinks to hand off to anyone with an empty hand and wanting one.
No unexpected fluid leakage by any known parties.
This was a few weeks ago and we are doing it again in a few weeks for our sales kickoff.

I work in an office setting in Utah.

More than 2 diet cokes at the party is getting out of hand.

I did pregame this year with a 22 oz stout at 10%abv.

Edit - I did my fellowship in Cleveland, every get-together was like a showdown to see who could get hammered quickest.

I used to work at Fidelity investments. They would have a huge Christmas party at the 4 seasons or the Ritz. Everyone would get fucked up.
It was called by all the "infidelity" paty.

This was 2008.

That’s funny. I worked Fidelity in 2007 in FL and it was the same, we had our huge party at the Jaguars stadium club and I was the only person of many hundreds to no not wear a tie. I got drunk as hell too. I quit the following Monday as I only took the job to fill in a 6 month gap between college graduation and going on active duty. Learned all I needed to about investing in that time frame which was cool.

One of our Lts tossed his marriage and half his pension at the last Christmas party when I was working. He disappeared for a few days with one of his female rookies.
