I eat at one maybe 4 times a year on the way home from work. I just get the two fish fillets. We also have a Capt D's, but the service is terrible there. When I had a teenage son at home, my wife would sometimes pick up the LJS fish platter box. My son would destroy one of those over a weekend. The grease doesn't do wonders for my belly any longer.

Quoted: Burger Chef was awesome. They went away I suppose by the mid eighties or so where I grew up. Glad I got to know them. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: I'm still mourning the loss of Arthur Treacher's. There (somehow) actually one left, in NE Ohio. Long may it reign. @Subnet, remember when Rax was a thing in the PA/OH corridor? Burger Chef is another one that I'm aware of, but never got to try. I'm a bit too young. Burger Chef was awesome. They went away I suppose by the mid eighties or so where I grew up. Glad I got to know them. Burger Chef was the first fast food restaurant in my town. We used to eat there every once in a while. When mcdonalds, BK, and hardees moved in, the Burger Chef only lasted a few more years. IIRC, it closed in the early 80s. |

The one 15 minutes away closed, if I wanted to go to one it'd be half an hour drive each way.
Not happening. |
I only go to the last Arthur Treacher's and that's only when I'm near Akron.
EDIT: hehe a few Arthur Treacher posts in quick succession; I didn't read the whole thread before posting. |

The closest one to me is 25 miles away, out by I-75. I think it gets mostly tourist/travelers business.

Avoided that place successfully so far. I got dragged along to a Captain D’s once. Never again.
A new one opened here after sitting dormant about two years through COVID. It got a huge rush at he grand opening month and then seems to have settled into a normal mode of business. I probably haven't been to LJS for 45 years.

They haven’t operated here in many years……always thought the old Arthur Treacher’s fish and chips was better

I think I went once in high school cause my buddy liked hush puppies…. No idea they were still at round.

My Grandpa used to take me there as a kid 35 years ago. I recall the chicken tenders being great and back then it likely was.
I’ll grab some out of nostalgia if I happen upon one which doesn’t happen much. Around me they are typically not in great areas. I will say if you get it cooked well it’s not bad, but my guess is your odds on that is 10:1. |

"Thank you for visiting Long Johns what can I get for you?"
"I'll take a piece of fish and 24 kilos' of "tartar" sauce" |

The only one I know still in business, is in New Kensington PA, and it is a combo place with A&W. As much as I like rootbeer i have never stopped there. Seems like all the other stores in that plaza have or will be going out of buiness in the last couple years (Kmart, altmeyers, now staples). But there is a new Aldis just opened there.

When I lived stateside I would hit Long John's maybe once a year to satisfy my greasy fish and hush puppy craving.
Normally I would get two McDonald's filet of fish and ask them nicely if they would do two fresh, because otherwise the ones sitting in the holding box ?? But Arthur Treachers was the best fast food seafood place. |

I don’t go because I basically can’t eat anything on the menu. But it was a favorite of mine as a kid. Last time we ate there was maybe ~3 years ago.
I’ll still eat fried catfish and Cole slaw once a year. I’d prefer every week but simply can’t do it. |

Quoted: I have one down the street. I never see anyone there when I drive by. I don't know how they keep the doors open. Or the food fresh. I do like their chicken and fish planks. They are tasty. I just don't trust the food. Slow business = shortcuts and questionable food safety. View Quote Don’t trust it? It’s fried. Nothing can withstand what it goes through before it hits your plate. |

I love Long Johns. I eat lunch there about once every two weeks when I'm working my Southern-most county. 2 piece fried fish with crunchies, slaw, hush puppies, and a drink. Add fried clams. Hot sauce for the slaw and malt vinegar for the fish. Can't beat it!

There used to be one in the Park Shops in downtown Houston which was excellent. Tons of business people, so they had to maintain some standards. Then, the Park Shops decided to go much more upscale and didn’t renew LJS’s lease.there are 6 in Houston,’but the closes is 16 miles away. Now I’m thinking of making the drive.

Been to LJSs one time in my life, to get a cup of coffee...if you fry and cook seafood as good as I do, you would not eat there
Quoted: There's one near me in Plano: Google Maps I had to Google it. I honestly had no idea it was there. I haven't been to one in at least 15 years. View Quote There is one in McKinney on University. |

We have a LJS around here I drop in every few years, no joy.
Arby's (yes the roast beef place) has better fish sandwiches. |
Went to one when I was 8 years old for a birthday party. Never since.
Local one closed a couple years ago. It's now a Hungry Howie's. |
The closest one was about 30 miles away and it closed in the last 18 months and turned into a drive up coffee joint. Now the next closest one is about 90 miles away. With a nice lake 1/2 mile away I really don't think I will be driving 90 miles for fried fish. I did like their fish, shrimp, hush puppies & cole slaw though.

Only one nearby is a combo with KFC. We stop there once in a while for lunch.
LJS is one of my guilty redneck pleasures, kind of like Jason Aldeen music, I really don’t want anyone to know I like it. |
Not seen a LJS or Arthur Treacher's since I left OH in 1985. The closest chain is Captain D's, and it is a pale imitation of "fish and chips". Now that we live a few miles from the Gulf, there are tons of better choices.
it's been or 6 years since I went to one locally.
the nearest one to me is probably half an hour away. |
Ha ha! I ask my wife “how in the hell does Long John Silvers stay open” every time we pass one in town. I’ve never been in that one, but I’ve also never actually seen a customer there. I called them one day to see if they were open and settle an argument. They were and I lost lol.

I don't know why anyone would eat food cooked by druggie, degenerate, minimum wage loosers.
I used to love long John silvers. They went to drive thru only around here and I haven’t been to one in years.
It's been a few years now. I'm not sure how they keep the doors open either, but the food tastes the same as when I was a kid. The grease doesn't agree with me these days so I stay away.

I thought they went out of business a couple of decades ago, haven't seen any in at least 20 years.
The VFW took over on of the old ones around here. I frequent both about never.
