Regular Army musicians attend basic and AIT in Virginia, last I heard it was 6 months and they wouldn't let people test out, including Reservists and NG musicians going active. Premier bands come in at probationary E4 to E6 (not sure about all the branches), I believe (in the Army) that includes West Point and a few other bands. Most musicians come in at E3 or E4. WLC or whatever it's called now is/was MOS neutral and the following NCO schools are/were back at the SOM.
The President's Own, the top Marine band, doesn't go through boot camp, I think they have a short orientation, I think all the other branches go through basic or boot. Not sure about follow-up training (AIT for Army) for the other branches. How are they SSGs already? I think all band people are automatically SSGs after they complete their AIT. Don't know about "all", but all the premier DC bands, have auditions first. Positions are advertised in the AFM (union) papers, no different than any other symphony gig. If you win the audition and make height/weight, THEN you go to the recruiter as a formality to do all the paperwork. Once basic is finished, there's no AIT. You report directly to DC. After a probationary two month period, your E4 status is bumped to E6. Now, if you're enlisting and are like "I wanna be in the band" (all the other non-DC bands), then you have to go to their "band school" for AIT in VA for 10 weeks. I don't know about the rank though. President's Own is the only one exempt from basic. Premier bands don't do AIT, just report straight to DC after basic
