Quoted: Sorry for the poor pics, they actually make the condition look a little better. I used "Old English" scratch cover on the wood and it cleaned up OK. Not showing up well in the pics is the metal has numerous little scratches and dinks - like it laid loose in the bed of a truck. The mag extension nut is the only thing I will try to place - its really rough. The gun is also dirty - it was fired and not cleaned before going into storage. I'm breaking it down this morning for a good cleaning. For the price - I'm still happy though. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/34870/IMG_0515__2__jpg-710959.JPG https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/34870/IMG_0513_jpg-710960.JPG https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/34870/IMG_0514__2__jpg-710962.JPG View Quote Could you tell me the first three of your serial number and the letter prefixes so I can add to the info thread? I know the cover was posted, but I found a PDF of the whole magazine.
Buckeye Guard Magazine - Summer 1993 It looks like these shotguns were used by the ONG to put down a prison riot. Awesome. From the Vault: Lucasville prison riot killed nine inmates, one guard in 1993. |

Exactly. Unless someone is unhappy with what they got and is either extremely generous or doesn't care $60 is nothing, Especially by the time you factor in time to package it up and ship it and an FFL fee. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

What do you mean? Are you talking about the Californian that missed out on a great deal and wanting someone to basically give him one? The ad made pretty clear I’ll pay shipping and FFL fees. It wasn’t intended to be a lowball. I already had my hand slapped by the mods for the EE ad (apparently you’re not allowed to bold your title, and all WTB ads need to be elsewhere). Regardless, I would love to have one of these if someone doesn’t really want theirs and am willing to pay for the privilege. Not sure how best to effectively communicate that without getting cross-wise with anyone. |

Damn it!!!!!
Tracking showed Monday delivery. Fedex is now showing they just tried to make delivery this morning and no one home (home based FFL). Now tracking says delivery not till Tuesday......I'll be at work all day Tuesday and not able to pick it up until Wednesday. Fuck! |

I sent an email to Ohio Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Josh Mann, Historian for the Ohio National Guard, regarding these shotguns and if he could provide us with an additional information on them.

Yeah it’s confusing (because we are anxious).
Is it in transit? Because I thought fedex didn’t deliver on Saturday unless you pay extra. I think it’s loaded on the truck, ready to be delivered next business day, Monday. Attached File |

Email I sent to the Ohio National Guard historian
Hello,
I am writing to ask if there is any information you could provide for me on the Remington 870 shotguns that were used by the Ohio National Guard. Recently, a batch of these shotguns were made available for sale and I was lucky enough to purchase two of them. So far, through a group effort in researching these shotguns, we have been able to track down pictures of these shotguns being used by ONG in the Lucasville Prison riot in the summer of 1993 (which was chronicled in the Buckeye Guard Magazine from Summer 1993) and by ONG during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. If you could provide any details about when these shotguns were procured by the Ohio National Guard, if they were ordered directly for the Guard or if they were transferred to the Guard by another military branch, how many shotguns were ordered/received, any information on conflicts or operations they were used in, and when they were retired by ONG. Thank you very much and I appreciate any information you could provide for us. Attached is an image of the specific shotguns we have recently acquired. View Quote Hello,
Recently, a batch of Ohio National Guard shotguns were surplussed and sold on the civilian market. The few date codes and serial numbers I've managed to see put these in the early 1970s for production dates. I will attach pictures of both the folding stock and fixed stock variants that were sold. Are there any records for sales of these shotguns to the Ohio National Guard in this time frame? I have reached out to the Ohio National Guard historian to see if he may be able to track down any information, but would also like to see if Remington keeps documentation for government sales from this time period. I am primarily interested in how many were produced, what configurations they were produced in, and if they were sold directly to the Ohio National Guard, or if these were transferred to the Guard by another military branch. If you need more detailed information to track this info down, such as specific serial numbers, I could provide a couple. Any information you could provide would be extremely helpful. Thank you. And put in my order furiously on my phone last week. No confirmation email so I come looking... no record of order in their system, no credit card charge. Guess they just saved me $250 bucks and a trip to my LGS.

LISTEN UP:
I'm unlocking this thread because it has a lot of interesting information compiled in it. NO MORE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT SALES BETWEEN MEMBERS. If you want to buy or sell, do it through the EE according to the rules. PM people if you like...but for the love of Christ keep the buying and selling between members out of the thread or it will just get locked again. |

Thanks JW. I updated the OP in this thread and edited the other one to direct here.

So, is an unlocked thread a dupe if its unlocked after another one is created? Or is the original always considered the first and the second thread becomes a dupe?
Thank you Mr Wayne |

My fixed stock got to my FFL yesterday. I wasn't expecting my folder to get there until Monday, but he just texted me and said it showed up today. He said the fixed stock has a sling attached, and looks almost brand new. The folder has tape on it, marked 838th. He said it is in excellent shape also. I probably wont get there until Monday, so he sent me a couple pictures. https://i.postimg.cc/v83Sfqzn/sg1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/CKGc1m5z/sg2.jpg Does anyone know anything about the 838th? It looks like most of those who posted pics have 870s in really nice shape, I'm hoping to get lucky with a nice one. Not going to work on Monday so I can get to my FFL as soon as he calls. I feel like Homer waiting for his pistol. Thank you to OP who posted the add, I joined ARF cuz of your post.

My Order #40790xx shipped Friday and should be here by Tuesday. I can't wait, I'm anxious to see what condition it's in but even if it's on the lower end of the scale it's still a sweet piece well worth the price.
I do wish I'd thought to order 2 but with as many people here that missed it entirely I'm super grateful I got one at all. Since some people are getting slings with theirs, I'll wait to buy a GI one. I need to order a bayo though since the two I had that I thought were M7's are actually rare first production run M4's for the M1 Carbine. Which really just gives me an excuse to buy an M1 Carbine now. Can't wait. Will post pics when it comes in. |
