I don’t really know anything about it, I saw online that I should start with the episode “33” but the episode started with a recap so that can’t be right.

If memory serves, 33 is the first episode in the series after the movie that started it all.
Start with the movie. |
|
Go back and watch the OG Battlestar Galactica from the very beginning. Then watch the remake BSG from the very beginning.

OG Battlestar is comical now. It does not stand up. At most, watch the pilot episode so you understand what the Cylons and their raiders looked like. It adds a bit of context to the beginning of the mini series... but it's not critical.
Also screw the webisode content, Razor, and The Plan... which were added later but intended to slice into the timeline. Not their best stuff. And frankly, neither are the later seasons. Start with the two-part mini series. That is great, especially if you remember the OG BSG, and then jump into Season 1 of the new series. It starts off great with 33...and the rest of Season 1 is pretty decent. Season 2 is mixed...and has at least of the worst episodes in the series, and that's saying something. I liked the start of Season 3, but many disliked it. I found it to be an interesting perspective on an insurgency ....plus, it sets up one of the cooler Battlestar jumps in the series. Starts going downhill after that, hard, so hit the last two season with lower expectations. |

I would start with the miniseries. That gives you a good idea what you're in for.
I think I look at the original series with rose colored glasses. I wonder if I rewatched it if I would like it as much as I did when I was a kid. The ending of the rebooted series is pretty insane, in many ways it's just... Click To View Spoiler Simpsons - Planet of the Apes, the musical |

Man, 33 had my heart pumping and me sweating the whole time.
Start with the 2 hr movie that started it then go into the eps |

I forgot to add. Once you get addicted to Battlestar, look up Blood & Chrome. It's Adama's backstory. Also see if you can track down Caprica. Some people hated it, but i think it did a good job exposing the Cylon's origins.

The only thing it did for me was explain why the Cylons come up with such stupid plans and are such incompetent pilots. |

Click To View Spoiler View Quote The ending was horrendous. The series really started to suck, it may have been the writer’s strike that caused the suckage, but it turned into a ridiculous Cylon soap opera. It could have been one of the best series in history and instead was one of the most disappointing series in history. It would have been better if it was canceled halfway through. |

That was one f'ed up situation for me.
They bounced around so much on the time line. I watched by date. I gave up after 3rd or 4th and just watched some i was able to fill in the gaps and some i just let go. It made Dr Who a million dollar show. Really a cheapo. |

"Sir, if I may..."
"Not now! I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!" "I really think you should look at the other Battlestar..." Yeah, it was cheesy, but it was also the late 70s. What do you expect? Great scene, though. |

Battlestar Galactica 1978 is way better.
The new series, they made the cyclons just too powerful. Plus the Vipers have missiles instead lasers. I get the whole idea that there’s no noise in space but how about just add some sound effects to cure boardem. The only thing that would make the series better would be is having Tricia Helfer naked bent over. She was hot! |

Old school BSG is ok, but not necessary.
