http://www.proof66.com/images/Luksosowa_Vodka.jpgPURE tripple distilled Polish potato vodka. I guarantee no hangover! That's good stuff too. I gotta admit, I've liked just about all of the Polish vodkas I've tried though. |

Sobieski Vodka, the undisputed No. 1 selling premium vodka in Poland and one of the fastest-growing vodka brands in the United States, is once again turning heads by teaming up with A-list actor Bruce Willis to support the Fisher House Foundation, a unique public-private partnership that supports the United State’s military and their families in times of need. Commencing Sept. 1, for every bottle of Sobieski Vodka purchased in the United States over the next 12 months, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Fisher House. "I am especially proud to be a part of this program,” said Willis. "Wherever you purchase Sobieski, wherever you are in America, you are helping injured members of the United States military and their families. That’s because Sobieski and I have teamed up with Fisher House Foundation, an organization that provides homes to injured members of the military and their families while they are recovering. It is a great cause.” |

I am suprised no one has mentioned Viking Fjord. For the price it is an incredible potato vodka. Six times distilled, it is outstanding for the price. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1262/5142255743_0a8c5f9e7e.jpg I went looking for Friis, which is apparently not available around here. The clerk recommended Viking Fjord, so that will be my Thursday Night Football drink. I'll provide a range report...if I live...tomorrow. |

Bought a bottle of Fris last night, haven't opened it yet.
Price was the same as Sobieski, which is $12.95/750ml here. |

One of those news shows (Dateline or 60 Minutes or something like that) did a show to see if people could tell any difference between vodkas. The test panel was comprised of self-professed Vodka officionados, who all swore that they'd be able to tell the "good" vodkas" from the "bad". I probably don't need to tell you how it ended... When blindfolded, they couldn't tell the $8 stuff from the $80 stuff. None of 'em could. Buy whatever's cheapest, and don't get wrapped up in the marketing and hype...which is what most people do. Properly made Vodka is virtually odorless and tasteless...you're wasting money if you spend more than $10 on a bottle of it. If you can't tell the difference in taste between Aristocrat and Tito's, you have no tastebuds. There is a lot of marketing and hype in alcohol. Always has been. But there are so many different kinds of vodkas and they do taste very, very different. That said, if you're mixing it with 10 parts fruit juice to 1 part vodka, no, you won't be able to tell the difference between Grey Goose and Stoli. Hell, last time mythbusters did the vodka-filter story, didn't the guy put the drinks in order of preference from top shelf vodka and then ordered every one correctly as to the amount of times it was filtered? |

thread reminds me I need to try some titos....

Friis. It's a very high-quality vodka (distilled five or six times, IIRC), but because it's not well-known, and from a country that doesn't traditionally make vodka (Denmark), its price is surprisingly cheap (almost as cheap as the really shitty vodka). I'd say it's as good as Grey Goose/Belvedere, at about 1/3 of the price. Ok, I bought this on your suggestion. And I can't believe how good it is. Thanks for the tip. |
|
I don't drink a lot of vodka but I'll have to check out Fris when I finish up my bottle of Sobieski.

Titos is good, so is Dripping Springs.
Finlandia is alright. Crystal Skull is great, but over priced. |
|
$38 for a 750 ltr of Tito's?
Ay Chihuahua! It's $19.95 here for that, $34.99 for Big Daddy 1.75 l |
|
i always recommend monopolowa––about $15/L and better than most vodkas at twice the price.
tito's is a solid product, but you're not getting value––it's priced about right for the quality. haven't tries friis. |

How disappointing. Went to pick up some of the recommendations in town today. Biggest liquor store in town and they didn't have shit. 90% flavored vodkas, half of them absolute. I was too lazy to drive down the street, so I grabbed some more Sobieski. Got a bottle of the Sobieski Cytron, as well. I'm not generally a fan of the flavored ones, but I must say it's pretty good with tonic. Especially if you're too lazy to get some lime juice. |

From recommendations in this thread, I bought a bottle of Fris this week. Cracked it open last night.
It's almost tasteless. Which, in a vodka, is kind of a desirable trait. I didn't drink enough of it to test the AM headache capacity, but I suspect you could get hammered on this stuff an suffer only minor hangover symptoms. For $12.95/750ml, it's a damn good vodka. |

I love vodka, pretty much the only liquor I drink and I'm lucky cause whoever is in charge of our local Giant Eagle liquor store buys all kinds of stuff that you never see in the other liquor stores in town (Morgantown, WV). I drink enough that it's worth the extra few dollars to get something that won't give me a hangover in the morning. I don't like Friis or Svedka. I went with them for a while, then they started giving me hangovers. Tito's is good, but for about the same price I can buy good imported vodka. Stoli, Russian Standard, and Kettle One are all favorites for me. Hammer and Sickle is new and I just finished a bottle of it. It seemed good, but I'll have to have another bottle to try the hangover effect of it. UV vodka is decent for cheap vodka, hardly ever gives me a hangover.
If you have a Giant Eagle nearby and live in a free state alcohol wise, check them out. They have better prices, better selection, and they usually have the nice packages that come with glasses/t shirts, or cool stuff like that. |

Magadanskaya (Maggy), if you can find it.

Ruskova it is triple distilled but any of the ones that have 3 or 4 distillations are good. Burnetts is also good. After all ,all liquors are just alcohol and water that is aged in barrels or flavors added. I personally like just plain chilled vodka with a jalapeno stuffed olive in it . Yum

Thanks to DK-Prof for the Fris recommendation, got a bottle last night, and it was awesome.

Gordon's is my cheap vodka of choice. $10.99 for a 1.75 when it is on sale, and tastes as good as some mid range stuff IMO. Never had a hangover from this one either. Great for mixers and bloody marys.

Fris is the good shit IMO, best bang for the buck.
But I have to give Pinnacle an honorable mention... I've been drinking "Whipped", their whipped cream flavor, in Orange Crush, and it's great. I look forward to trying more flavors. It's also a good bang for the buck. Yeah, you're limited with the flavor you select, but you can still do some cool shit. Like I say, Orange Creamsicle? Dead ringer. I look fwd to trying their "Gummy" AKA Swedish Fish flavor. Waiting for a good recipe. |

I wonder how many people didn't buy because they didn't look close enough like I did |

Just got back from the hooch-monger. Picked up a 1.75 of Fris for $20. VERY NICE!!!! I'm on my second 'tini, and I just might like it better than Russian Standard.
Thanks DK |

$8 bottle that tastes like a $18 bottle-try Burnetts. I use a lot of this in mixed drinks. It is a great value. I like Sky, Titos, and Dripping Springs in a martini. |
