Very interesting, the firearms instructor at my old department trained us to clear clothing out of the way and observe as we re-holstered. So your department trained you like garbage, congratulations.

It would be extremely rare. I'd imagine if you're a cop in the middle of nowhere, and it's not feasible to wait for backup, it could happen. Draw down on someone, they have a change of heart, prone them out, then reholster and cuff them if the situation appears to be under control and you can't wait 30 minutes for backup.

But as discussed, you would watch where you're putting your gun that has the power to kill you when you re-holster.

Of course the officer could just carry a weapon that has a REAL FUCKING SAFETY too, but that seems to be beside the point around here.

Or, give him the option to carry a wheel gun.  IMHO, any law enforcement officer that wants to carry a 38spl or 357mag should be allowed to do so.

Shore said Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman suffered an injury after his gun went off in his holster during a morning training scenario.

Boseman was taken to the hospital where he was treated at AnMed Health after the bullet of a 40-caliber Glock grazed his right thigh, according to Shore. The injury required a few stitches, and Boseman was using crutches to get around, Shore said.

Because of the accident, Boseman did not get recertified, and will not be able to carry a handgun until he goes through required a gun safety training program, Shore said.

“Charlie doesn’t like to carry a gun,” Shore said. “But it’s the policy of the Coroner’s Office for all employees to be certified to carry one, because of the people and places they encounter, especially at night

I don't know why people abandoned manual safeties. They figured out that manual safeties were an asset over a hundred years ago.

And I don't buy all the bullshit about forgetting to flick off the safety in a high stress situation. You going to forget to pull the trigger, too? It's no more of a fine motor skill than a trigger pull.

They were THE striker fire pistol for a long time. You really didn't see other guns without manual safeties unless they were DAwith a decocker or a revolver.

They catch the heat because they're the most widely carried.
