I couldn’t see their method of attachment to the bridge. I’m not sure what their recovery method would be. Let them swing until their bodies rot away would be my suggestion, but nobody’s asking me.

Why is this so difficult?
Call out the boat cops. Attach winch line to their line. Disconnect their line. Lower them to the waiting boat cops. Slap cuffs on. Repeat. |

charge them with the fee of the emergency services, and hit them with trespassing

Seems like an easy arrest to me but apparently HPD is worthless.

Looks like there's 175ish feet between the water and the bridge. Can a T-38 go supersonic that low? NASA has some based close to there. Or send a F-15/16/18/22/35 from Florida, or a B-1 from Dyess. Or all of the above, one after another.

HSCO tac team on site. Baytown FD, county constables and HPD. I just cleared it. Terrorists apparently still swinging in the breeze. The underlined idiots could have just been ignored and left to the forces of nature and Darwin. The agents of the state don’t like being left out of a party and their political masters both insist on intervention and are quite taken by tales of interventions effectiveness. The necessity to intervene is directly triggered by the actions of the protestors. They did this knowing that it would be disruptive and that they would be arrested. They have lawyers on standby and that arrest is a badge of honor in the environmental community. And yet the necessity to intervene is also reciprocally created by law enforcement and political leadership. The politicians demand that something be done, and police do something, the response becomes standard procedure, the politicians avoid blame by hiding behind standard procedure and the cops act under the politicians mandate. The fourth layer is the risk of a disordered public response. Look at this thread for examples. We can’t have ordinary citizens hauling up, beating, peeing on or arresting protestors. The immediate risk is mob violence, rope cutting, ship ramming etc. The systemic risk is any tolerance of aggressive self help/mob violence/vigilante justice. It’s a giant expensive self justifying circle. The protest is both a publicity stunt and a marginally effective social hack of a system that feels compelled to intervene. |

I’ve got so many ideas.... Send fire ants down the ropes.... Start soaking the ropes in fuel.... Start a 10 minute timer and every time it goes off cut one of them down.... Lower a hornets nest down on a rope.... This could be fun. View Quote |

Despite being the energy capital of the world, Houston is not even a purplish city anymore. In 2018 the Blue Wave pushed out all Republicans.
Thanks to the booming oil economy the city has had a huge influx of people coming from outside the state. That’s how Houston gets statesman like Sylvester Turner as mayor, Austin’s awful police chief reject, and a 27 yr old dipshit as county judge. |

He is Houston police chief. The sherriff department is handling this. Speaking of reporters, KHOU, Univision and one other Mexican outfit. That was it for media. |
