After Katrina, theredgoat and I went to New Orleans to load Lordtrader up and bring his ass back to Texas.
When we walked into the hotel where LT was staying, we both had ARe on our back. Nobody batter an eye. Txl |

How dare this guy want to help safeguard his church's offerings to those in terrible need from fucking looters. This thread is officially Lootie approved. Just tragic, really..

@Evile
Let me explain the legality of this situation. 1. Open Carry is illegal in Florida unless it is done on Private Property with the legal consent of the owner. Other than that and the rare exception where one can do it while actively Hunting Fishing, or Camping and directly traveling to and from said activities from one's residence. Open Carry is Verboten. Doesn't matter if it is a long gun or handgun. OC is not allowed in public or on public property or common areas of private property (ie, parking lots and green spaces of apartments or multi-tenet parking structures for strip malls). 2. It is legal to have a long gun in one's vehicle without a CCW permit. But once again, no Open Carry is allowed. 3. Our Self Defense laws are pretty good. But don't bet on it beating the ride in the back of the marked unit. 4. Private Property can ban the carrying of arms. If the owner or a representative of the owner (with owner's approval) tells someone to leave. The order must be listened to. If not, it is felony trespassing. 5. We have specific requirements for armed security. First there is the "D" License and then the "G" License one must get to be armed. That is for a armed security company. Civil liability still is on the individual. As such, if said individual was to pull security, while unlicensed at a private business or residence with express permission to do so. Then they are limited to a very specific ROE. They're no different than the property owner defending one's property. Since this is a Church Group requesting assistance. It is best to keep long guns secured in vehicles and out of sight within reach and stick with concealed handguns on one's person. Unless this trailer is going to be parked on private land, with express permission of the owner that one can be armed. There will be no open carrying. I'm all for an armed citizenry. I'm all for folks protecting one's self and supplies. Just do it smartly. |

When we did a previous hurricane thread if you were against gouging the poor evacuees with $9 water then you're a communist. Now we not only aren't gouging them, we're giving it all up. They say a socialist is compelled to be generous with someone else's money, does it apply to water also? Or no because it's generosity under duress? Sounds like a difficult situation. Maybe they can request a NG unit to assist if they are bringing a large amount of supplies.

after Wilma all my neighbors took turns guarding our street armed with ARs
After Irma on wounded Veteran sitting in a golf cart did the same after Wilma we grouped up armed with ARs and went from the west coast to the East Coast delivered fuel, food and generators when we did see cops everything was cool often the cops were extremely pleased and thankful |

Apparently, the Koreans were ruthless against the VC and NVA in Vietnam. Natural born killers. That trailer will probably be well protected.

No open carry of firearms in Florida, even in emergencies (an exception for hunting/fishing only) so your friend will in all likelihood get his shit pushed it if he tries 'standing guard' with a rifle. He want's to go and defend the supplies, good for him. He want's to shoot some looters, more power to him. You guys are all "Molon Labe" until its time to actually do anything. Then it's "but it may look bad" "muh optics" |

It sounds like the church is asking for problems. They should coordinate with local law enforcement in Florida if there are security issues. The last thing a church needs is for a news story saying how a church member shot someone getting supplies that they brought to give out to people for free. jd1 View Quote Here is the real question. Lets assume they 'catch' the looters what are they going to do with them? Detain and wait for authorities? What if it takes a few days for a response? Shoot them? Where are they going to dump the bodies? In the aftermath of Katrina people that were shooting looters picked up brass and moved along. Katrina had over 1800 death toll. That sort of thing got swept under the rug. Michael in the US only has 33. Its a very different scenario. Quoted:

Funny how most looter threads come up, everyone agrees to shooting the looters. This thread comes up and everyone seemly agrees that guarding emergency supplies with a loaded weapon and bad judgment and a one way ticket to prison.
make up your minds. |

Just found out that a coworker has gone with his church to North Florida where the hurricane just went through with trailers full of supplies. Apparently the first group that went one of the trailers was broken into and everything stolen over night now his church has asked for anyone with firearms to go and protect the supplies. He just got his first AR a few months ago has very little trigger time on it. Another co worker tried to talk him out of taking it just for the legal aspect but he insisted Seems like a bad Idea to me View Quote |

Folks who criticize LE for shootings are now going to shoot looters? We all support the concept of 2A, but the execution is often fucked up.
Mere presence should be enough to discourage anyone looking for easy pickings. Don't shoot anyone unless "life" is at stake and you can avoid jail. This isn't "the end", it's a temporary event. You will be held accountable if you screw this up. |

dunno, the places in Ferguson that had people with rifles did not get looted or burned down. Adding signs to the property saying armed security 24/7 might help. but yeah he could get spanked for having it out in the open. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Oddly, it's legal to open carry here with certain restrictions like school zones, courts, etc.. Wether or not your put thru the wringer is another matter entirely. Couple that with your suitability is at the whim of any one of about 250 little fiefdoms, convoluted and ambiguous open ended laws and an insane AG well....
