Oroville Update Phase II 15 Nov

Someone earlier asked my thoughts on the future of the dam.

1. I think the dam in it's pre super damaged state would of been fine had they not filled it to the brim right before a mega storm.

2. If they do 1. again they will have problems no matter what.  but I believe there are MANY reasons that won't happen again for generations at least.

I think this dam will be very boring for decades at this point.

If enough people want me to go check it out, I will.

@ProFryan , Thanks for starting this topic, I have read every page!
It sure was scary in the beginning, my wife would have me check for updates every morning.
Amazing the amount of work that was done.
Again, Thank You!

That siren and evacuation.

That was something. I hope to never be a part of something so crazy. I would of been the first person to get wet.

I think you should stay away for a while. Seems like everywhere you go some kind of trouble shows up. There might be some chopped up trees with hungry horses hanging around downstream.

The cracks are vertical not horizontal like last time?

Vertical cracks seem like they would be worse?

Upper and lower spillway cams are back up. Perhaps it's just coincidence, but it seems that the lower cam was out whenever they were disassembling and moving components from the lower RCC plant.

Power might be routed through the plant?  They had to disconnect it to move the plant in parts.  Or possibly over sized load they had to take internet down / power down?

It seems to go out once in awhile.

While we're at it, a toast to the designers, engineers, planners, and workers that were able to accomplish the impossible this year by getting the spillway up and running. Thanks for your efforts and your belief in all the other members of the team!

25% of normal snowpack for the season statewide.

Northern cal is at 8% of the April 1st average snowpack.

Full Details

Rainfall at 65% of average for the Northern Sierras:

Full Details of Rainfall

Seems the dam is not in risk of overflow, forecasters seem to have missed by a bit.
