The police are not the friends of freedom.

Because we want them to brutalize criminals.

What is the "public easement" the auditor was on? In the video it looks like he's on the grass. If he was in the road I get it, but not the grass. Can people walk through your yard for a certain length if there are not sidewalks? Serious question.

Oh, hell yeah there are. Otherwise a person just walking alongside the road could be tackled by the crossing guards and held for trespassing until the police arrive. There are some crossing guards on here who believe that.

Do either of you know if the officer involved is the husband of one of the employees there?

I'm extremely curious about the "call your husband" comment mentioned earlier, and you two seem to be the best chance of getting a straight answer directly from the source.

Thanks in advance!

@ConcernedCitizen

No, that wasn’t a reference to him.

@Red_SC

Thank you, I appreciate the response.

Depends on the state.

In NJ many properties have sidewalks in front, and there's a strip of property between the sidewalk and street that towns consider easements. Property owners can "own" that land, but it's technically public land in many cases.

There’s no quotes on that ownership. Property owner owns that strip, but the public has a right-of-way.

Just like when a power line or has line crosses your property.

Not necessarily the same.  Utilities often lie within public easements because in some states, they have statutory access to road rights-of-way without having to have the property owner's permission.  But if the utility has a separate easement across private property, only the utility's employees, agents, etc. can use it, and then only in support of the utility's business.

I experienced this as a teenager riding dirtbikes with some buddies under some huge high-power-line towers. The cop explained that it was still private property but that the power company had free access to it, not the general public. He was cool about it and we understood. But 3-5 feet off of public roads?  I’ve never heard of that being instant private property.

Sgt should be unemployed (as he is now).  Should have shown up, asked subject a few questions just to make sure he doesn't isn't a threat to himself or others, make sure he understands where public/private property division is, issue trespass warning, tell him to have a nice day.  Then go tell property owner you've advised the subject where their property starts and to call back if he crosses onto their property. How hard is this? I would like to know more about the policy violations and his connection with the property owner. FOIA I'm sure the auditor has sent should have interesting results.

ABC 15 obtained Morrison’s certification and training records from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy.

The records state Morrison resigned September 15 from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office after working with the department since 2014.

The Academy’s records say Morrison is under internal investigation.

The records state yes to the question, “There is a pending criminal investigation on this officer” and no to the question, “There are pending criminal charges on this officer.”

The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy says Morrison has worked in law-enforcement since 2006 for a total of about 16 years.

He’s worked with the Florence Police Department, South Carolina Public Safety Department and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Traditionally, western civilization puts checks and balances on government.  Unless you mean Cuba, but is that really western civ?

Right up until a few decades ago, Western civilization was also not only allowed, but encouraged, to put checks and balanced on boorish, rude, provocative behavior in public as well.

We also didn't have video of the boorish, rude, and provocative behavior in public by our professional law enforcement officers.  We're in a better place.

?It wasn't better back then??
